Chapter 2002: Chapter 603: Is Formless, Is All Forms, I am JOKER._3
...
Leonard Churchill had visited this Grey Mist World many times, and he navigated its depths with ease. It seemed that the residual souls recognized him now and didn’t bother to create trouble for him.
Before long, he passed through the mist and, guided by the amber gas lamps, found the magically enchanting Black Rose Tavern.
Inside the tavern were the same regulars: the pig-headed man, dwarf, two-horned demon, six-armed old man, toad monster, and bear-man...
These were fragments of the consciousness of top experts from history.
As Leonard entered the tavern, these monstrous patrons recognized him too, and no longer cast any peculiar gazes his way.
Leonard still took his seat at the bar, facing the tavern door.
Though he knew this was the seat once occupied by Emperor Lanlingster, he hadn’t seen him ever since their last encounter.
He thought it no harm to take a seat.
The bartender looked at him and greeted him, "What would you like to drink this time?" Discover stories on
Leonard didn’t rush to choose but instead asked, "I now have a complete soul of the Flame Demon King. What can I drink?"
This kind of Soul Wine isn’t something one can drink limitlessly; Leonard now understood that most people in their lifetime could probably only handle one type.
Last time, drinking a glass of [Wind Dragon Soul] left his body unable to withstand a second. So maybe now?
Leonard was unsure and decided to consult someone knowledgeable about the drinks.
The bartender glanced at the Flame Demon Soul Leonard presented and praised, "Oh, quite a rare find."
He then took out a bottle from the bar, black as though it were poison, and introduced, "This [Demon Tiani] might help you ignite your Divine Fire... Of course, drinking it could also lead to your soul burning to death."
"Divine Fire?"
Leonard was taken aback.
Such a grand thing right off the bat?
Does Soul Wine have such effects too?
It’s known that condensing Godhood and igniting Divine Fire are the two necessary steps to becoming a god.
Anyone who can make one of these steps is a transcendent on the rank, entering a higher dimension of life.
But such a breakthrough isn’t easy.
Just like Sophia Jones, the contracted immortal White Dragon, who lived for thousands of years, found this last step a far-off dream.
Let alone a single glass of wine aiding in igniting the Divine Fire?
So Leonard looked at this pitch-black Soul Wine before him, his expression complex.
First, he marveled that igniting the Divine Fire could be aided by external objects; this was indeed a great fortune.
Second, he wondered why something like this was so easily brought out?
Leonard really wasn’t prepared.
He had just advanced to the Ninth Tier not long ago, and although he had touched a bit of the God Tier power, he never thought he was already capable of igniting the Divine Fire.
In fact, he didn’t even know what igniting the Divine Fire entailed...
Moreover, the wine had major side effects: failure would mean dying on the spot.
With thoughts swirling in his mind, Leonard looked at the bartender and tentatively asked, "May I ask, if I drink this glass of wine, what are the odds of igniting the Divine Fire?"
The bartender, while polishing a crystal-clear glass, casually replied, "Who knows? About... one percent? As I mentioned earlier, this wine can aid you, but it can’t be the decisive factor."
"..."
Leonard’s eyelid twitched slightly at the response.
Of course, it couldn’t be that easy.
In other words, ninety-nine percent chance of dying on the spot?
Perhaps even more.
He really didn’t dare drink it.
Nor did he want to.
Leonard could see from the bartender’s expression that there had probably been many Ninth Tiers willing to gamble on that one percent chance.
But that was others.
Leonard felt that if he were stuck at this realm for hundreds of years, he might gamble too.
But having just advanced to the Ninth Tier, he wasn’t in a hurry at all.
The bartender seemed to understand Leonard’s concerns and added, "[Demon Tiani]’s ingredients aren’t easy to find; this is also the last glass. But since you’ve paid, you can store it here and drink it next time you come."
"..."
Leonard listened and, without much hesitation, was about to say to store the wine.
Just then, the sound of a carriage’s wheels grinding against the cobblestone road was heard from outside the tavern.
The other patrons in the tavern suddenly grew serious too.
Having experienced this once before, Leonard knew what it meant, his expression stilled, and his gaze filled with anticipation.
As expected, as the sound grew nearer, a ghostly carriage burning with soul fire stopped in front of the tavern door.
A burly coachman engulfed in death air opened the door, and out stepped an elegant woman, holding her wide-brim hat with one hand and lifting the hem of her black gown with the other.
It was the Witch of Lanlingster!
Leonard stood up from his chair; meeting the Witch Empress a second time, he wasn’t as reserved as the last but still didn’t lack respect, placing a hand on his chest in a gesture of greeting.
The Witch of Lanlingster spotted him immediately, a captivating and charming small smile blossoming on her exquisite face, "You’ve changed quite a bit..."
Leonard smiled, pulling aside a high stool and courteously gestured for her to sit beside him, "It’s been a long time, senior."
Unexpectedly, the Witch of Lanlingster’s beautiful eyes flashed with a lively gleam, lightly laughing as she asked in return, "How long is ’a long time’?"
Speaking as she did, she gathered her long, body-hugging gown elegantly, sitting down on the high stool.
"This..."
Leonard was momentarily at a loss, genuinely perplexed.
Right.
How long has it been?
In real-time, it had been almost two years since he last met her.
But within this space, time didn’t flow at a normal pace.
As the Witch of Lanlingster had said the last time he visited, time is relative, and the flow of time in this Grey Mist Space isn’t the same as the normal world.
It was more like a book, where the story inside only progresses when someone’s consciousness turns the pages.
