Carrying a Jurassic on me
Chapter 983 - 528

Chapter 983: 528

Seated in the car was none other than Yan Fei, who was getting cozy with Xu Xiaoyan. Driving the car, of course, was Xiao Qin from the zoo.

Xiao Qin was still asking Yan Fei, "Boss Yan, is this really going to be okay? Once we enter the city where there are a lot of people and cars, isn’t the old tiger going to get startled and jump out?"

Yan Fei, who was secretly holding Xu Xiaoyan’s hand, replied nonchalantly, "You’ve asked me a hundred times already, if I say it’s going to be fine, then it definitely will be."

No wonder Xiao Qin was worried; Yan Fei’s tiger was huge, and even on this wide truck that was over two meters in width, it would be difficult for the animal to turn around. Originally, Yan Fei had considered tying up the tiger, but considering the circumstances, he decided not to – after all, the tiger was in a high-sided truck filled with grain, so people outside wouldn’t be able to see it anyway. Plus, he was following right behind, not worried about potential problems.

But Xiao Qin wasn’t reassured; he had seen just how lively the tiger, named Tiger Da, had become once let loose. He sincerely doubted that the high sides of the truck would be enough to contain such a large creature.

The zoo’s tiger, which always seemed lethargic, had lashed out once and ripped through a thin wire fence to injure someone. Although the fence was already somewhat rusty, it was still a frightening event, let alone dealing with this seemingly ferocious beast.

While they were talking, they saw the traffic police stopping the truck ahead. Xiao Qin quickly drove up, took out the zoo’s documents, and showed them to the young traffic officer.

There was no problem with the documentation. After the traffic officer checked the papers, he waved them on with a gesture to proceed.

But Old Chang on the other side felt something was off. Jogging over, he called out, "Everyone knows that big trucks aren’t allowed into Wancheng City. Just because you’re following in a car, do you intend to break the rules? So, these rules are only for the common people, and you leaders don’t have to abide by them?"

This left Yan Fei and the others caught between laughter and tears. Among them, only Xiao Qin worked at the zoo, a newcomer at that; what kind of leader was he?

The young traffic officer turned around and tried to explain a few things to the elderly man, but Old Chang wouldn’t listen, "It’s all the same – officials do as they please, but common people can’t light a lamp. Don’t you all agree? Even if this truck is an exception and allowed into the city, you should still check to make sure what’s on it, right?"

There was a crowd of onlookers behind Old Chang, and with the road not being busy, they were eager to join in on the commotion. His words were quite effective at stirring up emotions, and in no time, although none of them spoke, their eyes all began to show suspicion.

Xiao Qin hurried forward to explain, "Sir, we are not any kind of leaders. This truck is carrying supplies for the zoo under special circumstances, and we have permission from the traffic police to enter the city."

In reality, it was just a matter of giving a heads-up; the rule against big trucks wasn’t strictly enforced, and there weren’t many vehicles in the city at the moment. An occasional big truck wouldn’t cause any problems, as long as it wasn’t carrying coal without a tarp covering it.

"What if you’re using the zoo’s name to transport private goods?" Old Chang flipped his eyelids and threw out this insinuation. "It could even be contraband. People nowadays are bold. I’ve read in the newspaper about people who secretly captured wild animals and transported them in fake military vehicles! I remember very clearly that they had tigers in those trucks, more than one!"

Oh...

Yan Fei, Xiao Qin, and even Xu Xiaoyan inside the car all found the situation a bit laughable.

The old man was really something. Both Xiao Qin and the traffic officer didn’t want to scare people, so they hadn’t told them that there was a tiger in the truck.

Furthermore, unless Wancheng City had suffered a second wildlife smuggling incident in fake military vehicles, the tiger in question was one of the several the old man was talking about.

Seeing that more people from the road were about to join in, the young traffic officer started to get anxious – and with his anxiety growing, someone else became pleased. A middle-aged man who had been drinking before driving saw the chaos as an opportunity, stealthily slipped into his vehicle, and drove away. If he could avoid being caught next time, he would have successfully evaded this predicament.

In the traffic officer’s view, the onlookers weren’t a problem; the intersection was quiet, and he considered their presence as overseeing his law enforcement – after all, he wasn’t entirely blameless for drinking earlier and couldn’t fault them for obstructing his work.

But now, with a tiger on the truck, he couldn’t bear the responsibility if something were to happen.

Yan Fei was quite surprised and asked Old Chang, "Who are you, anyway? A traffic officer? If you’re enforcing the law, you should at least be in uniform, and here you are, having had a drink. Are you trying to smear the reputation of Wan City’s traffic police?"

Old Chang stiffened his neck, "I’m a concerned citizen. This young fellow had a drink, and I’m worried he might not do his job diligently, so I came to supervise him. These folks behind me feel the same, what about it?"

Yan Fei was at a loss for words, "No big deal. Those smugglers with the fake military truck and tigers, I was the one who caught them. Back then, those tigers were kept at my place. Now, I’m transporting one here to pair up with the female tiger at the zoo. Do you understand now? Stop blocking our truck and get moving!"

"Ha!" Old Chang laughed in amusement. "What a coincidence, huh? I just mentioned it, and here we meet the hero who caught the poachers? You must be even more passionate than us concerned citizens, right?"

Upon hearing this, many in the crowd also burst into laughter, clearly finding the ’coincidence’ quite amusing.

Yan Fei didn’t laugh, "You’re just a concerned citizen, so it’s not your place to enforce the law. Come on, I’ve got to get back before evening!"
