Chapter 964: Chapter 520 Director Pi Leaves_2

Yan Fei sneered, "How much do you say this stuff of mine is worth per catty, if it really has the effects you mentioned?"

"How about selling it for twenty bucks a catty?" Director Pi blurted out. After saying this and seeing Yan Fei just looking at him without speaking, he felt a bit embarrassed. "Or maybe thirty bucks?"

"Forget it, when are you leaving? I’ll go get a catty for you to try first," Yan Fei said, not wanting to waste more words.

He really didn’t care. The stuff was his own, and whether or not to give it away depended on his mood. Even if Director Pi had a special mission, it wouldn’t matter. If he persisted in pretending, trying to get Yan Fei to offer it for free, then Yan Fei really wouldn’t give it to him.

Actually, tea wasn’t rare or precious, it was just a bit of a hassle to fry. But now, all the tea-frying work was being done by No.1 Coolie, so Yan Fei didn’t need to expend his own effort. That’s why he had a bit of a surplus of "stock" on hand for tea leaves. Otherwise, he didn’t usually like drinking tea much and wouldn’t have bothered making too much.

Upon hearing this response, Director Pi felt quite satisfied. He then revealed some good news to Yan Fei: "You can’t just keep to yourself in the cattle raising industry! After the new year, there’s an economic cooperation conference in Japan. Do you want to come along and take the opportunity to visit Japan and learn from their advanced cattle raising experience?"

If it were somewhere else, it might have been fine, but Yan Fei really had no interest in Japan. That place had become his backyard. As for advanced experience, the bunch of coolies in Dinosaur World were once on the front lines of cattle raising. Did he really need to make a special trip to Japan to learn?

Besides, it was an economic cooperation conference, and he had nothing to cooperate on. He had even turned down an investment from Japan before, so why go now? He immediately declined: "I have no interest in Japan. Spending money there is equivalent to funding the enemy, isn’t it?"

Director Pi was taken aback, "I didn’t realize you were so patriotic! This is about learning from their advanced experience. Besides, how much could you possibly spend there? Can that really be called funding the enemy? Surely you’re aware of the position of Japan’s livestock industry in the world? Not to mention, their beef is world-famous..."

"I know, I know," Yan Fei said, though of course, he wouldn’t openly admit to the things he was involved in. He replied with a smile, "You just said it’s an economic cooperation conference, not specifically about agriculture. What would I do there? Their cattle industry is so developed, I’m not planning to sell my beef to them. Wouldn’t that just be a wasted trip?"

Director Pi was only making a suggestion, and seeing Yan Fei’s determination, he didn’t push further. After chatting for a while, he remembered something else, "You might not go to Japan, but what about France and Brazil? There’s a ’Global Farmers and Agricultural Development’ symposium. If you’re interested, I can try to work something out for you."

"What’s the main point of such a conference?" Yan Fei perked up at the mention of agriculture.

"It’s a meeting, you know! Just chatting, tea-drinking, and discussing. Although, these conferences usually include a trade fair. Your beef is so good that you might even get an order and develop some business if you went," Director Pi suggested. "But it’s just an idea. Not everyone who wants to attend can. You have to be invited. Without an invitation, you can’t participate in the main conference; you can only hang around on the outskirts."

"Didn’t you just say you’d think of a way for me?" Yan Fei bristled at the idea. "We are a major agricultural country. Shouldn’t our people be among the invitees? They should invite a bunch more of us..."

"It’s not as simple as you think. We might be an agricultural powerhouse, but..." Director Pi sighed. "It’s not about whether you’re an agricultural powerhouse. You know the current global situation. There are plenty of people hostile to us, imposing boycotts. And it’s not just about your country’s size. Anyway, that’s the deal. When I talked about finding a way, I meant seeing if we have space for more people to attend the conference and getting you a spot as an attendant."

"It’s more complicated than I thought. Who cares about boycotts? We can deal with that later," Yan Fei said, losing interest upon hearing how bothersome it was. "If I want to go, I’ll go; if not, forget it. I’ll consider it once I’ve learned a few more foreign languages. If I can’t understand the signs, won’t I just be like a blind person when I’m out there?"

"Yeah, that’s true," Director Pi let out a sigh. "All right! You’re doing pretty well with your current business, but you should still pay more attention to the outside situation. I’ll keep you informed about such news so you can get out there earlier, and maybe get your beef sold abroad."

Yan Fei chuckled, and Chief Pi didn’t say much more. After a bit more idle chat, Chief Pi took his leave.

It wasn’t until Chief Pi had gone that Yan Fei, stroking his chin, muttered to himself, "Unsolicited kindness is either plotting or thievery. Why is Comrade Old Pi suddenly so eager to help me? What does he mean by that?"

Unable to figure it out after a long while, he simply went back to working on his wood carving.

If Chief Pi knew that his well-intentioned visit had been interpreted as ’either plotting or thievery,’ he would probably be so angry that he’d jump out of his skin.

It wasn’t as complicated as Yan Fei thought; Chief Pi simply felt that Yan Fei’s cattle farm could make people rich, and his personal martial arts skills were unbelievably strong, so it made sense to build a good relationship with him. There was a one in ten thousand chance that, if Yan Fei continued to grow and often had to travel away, he might be able to help with something else.

For Chief Pi, casting a wide net was the strategy. All entrepreneurs who could stir things up might be able to contribute at certain moments. Plus, Chief Pi had been in the area for a few months, and he knew Yan Fei understood this; he didn’t want the youngsters, full of youthful vigor, to develop any aversion. If it was anyone else, a bit of resistance wouldn’t matter much, but since Boss Yan’s business was growing, it was best to avoid potential issues if possible.

It’s not that Boss Yan was that special; it’s just a matter of making conversation and taking a little effort to do so. The real uniqueness was his youth, and upon chatting, it became evident that this guy held a belief in ’the whole planet being uncivilized except for my renowned ancient country of five thousand years’—in Chief Pi’s view, as long as this young man held such beliefs, he wasn’t likely to do anything too out of line.

In the eyes of most people, this indicated he had strong potential and could be actively recruited to contribute. Even if not, leaving a good impression was never a mistake. After all, the younger one is, the more infinite possibilities lie ahead, right?

Yan Fei had just finished his wood carving when Guo Jingya, holding it appreciatively, decided it was time to leave.

Xu Xiaoyan was quite surprised, "Why are you in such a hurry to leave after just two days? It’s not easy coming all this way, taking planes and cars; why not stay a couple more days?"

Guo Jingya grinned, "I just took the opportunity to come and see you all, and now that I’ve done so, I need to hurry home for the New Year! Oh, Xiao Fei, if I can manage to get some more money from my family over the New Year, I might open a few more restaurants, so get ready."

This girl had come just to see Yan Fei in person, to confirm the ’guess’ in her heart. Now that she had achieved her goal, she naturally wanted to return home promptly. With the area being inconvenient for travel, if a heavy snowstorm hit, she wouldn’t want to be stuck there for the New Year—that would be hard to explain at home.

Yan Fei also figured out the purpose of her visit; it didn’t bother him at all, and he waved her off casually, "Be careful on your way."

He didn’t even offer to send a gift with her—usually, with their shipments traveling back and forth every three days, drivers acted as messengers and couriers. With phone calls being so easy now, they could stay in touch without seeing each other, feeling as familiar as neighbors.

Xu Xiaoyan was more conscientious, rummaging through the house to find some gifts for Jingya to take back with her.

As the festive atmosphere intensified, and following Chief Pi’s formal departure, Yan Fei’s parents and younger brother returned home. The previously free-spirited Boss Yan could only settle down and spend the New Year with his family...
