Chapter 947: Chapter 514 Suggestions for Catching Rabbits_2

"I went to find you twice and couldn’t find you, and I even had your dorm people pass on a message to you. Why didn’t you come over?" Xu Xiaoyan stared at her and Ji Yunyun, completely indignant.

"I also went to look for you and couldn’t find anyone, what could I do? You didn’t even set a time," Ji Yunyun retorted.

"I told you to come directly to my house, but you didn’t come..."

The girls were arguing noisily while Yan Fei had left early to turn on the computer, typing on the keyboard with his still clumsy fingers, a browser news article appeared.

The economic crisis was still raging. After entering the end of the year, the overall economic situation had not improved, but instead had intensified.

As the economy in Hong Kong worsened, a large number of people from Hong Kong began to pour into Shen City. Some came to work in Shen City, and some even chose to live in Shen City and commute back to work - the property prices between Shen City and Hong Kong at that time could only be described as sky-high and dirt-cheap.

In fact, this was just the beginning. Later, more and more people started shuttling back and forth between the two places, especially after Hong Kong’s market-saving measures, this phenomenon became even more common - after all, it was very convenient.

So later on, some people in Shen City complained that it was the influx of people from Hong Kong that drove up the local housing prices.

In reality, it wasn’t just the people from Hong Kong running towards Shen City. As the locals became more familiar with Hong Kong, many also went there to do business.

Without discussing the bigger aspects, let’s talk about the smaller ones. For a simple example, there were quite a number of street vendors in Shen City selling "antique jade artifacts," which everyone knew were nominally antiques but in truth were mostly modern crafts being hawked.

Some of these peddlers went over to Hong Kong to do business - going over at night for the night markets and returning during the day. Many of them "slipped" across the border without going through customs. Although their operations were small-scale, quite a few people made a fortune from it.

Of course, this was a negative example and wasn’t very pleasant to talk about.

With the economic downturn, the Guo family’s business in Hong Kong also suffered a lot. However, while the family business was affected, it didn’t impact the business of the Sixth Miss Guo’s two small restaurants. Instead, due to the poor situation in Hong Kong, her slightly downscale restaurant actually saw a slight increase in performance because of its pricing advantage.

Big shots had their concerns, while ordinary people only focused on their own lives. Take the Sixth Miss Guo, for instance – she was now full of ambition, boasting that entering the food industry was a vision of foresight and was already planning to expand her business further.

These matters were only of passing interest to Yan Fei, who paid a bit more attention only because Guo Jingya kept clamoring about opening new restaurants; otherwise, he didn’t care much.

After finishing their meal, the group went straight to the zoo across the street and played for half the day - don’t expect these thrifty girls to buy tickets. It just happened to be a festival, and students could enter for free with their student IDs.

In the evening, after attending the New Year’s Eve party at the school, Xu Xiaoyan was still excited. When entering the house and looking at the two dogs that were getting fatter by the day, she suggested to Yan Fei, "We don’t have school tomorrow, so why don’t we take the dogs out to catch rabbits tonight? These dogs aren’t getting any exercise here and are just getting fatter. They need to work out..."

"Aren’t you sleepy?" Yan Fei was exasperated with her; he had told her that the dogs only needed to be fed once a day, but she insisted on feeding them several times. With several feedings a day and meat at every meal, of course, the dogs were getting fat.

"Not sleepy at all, let’s go, let’s go!" Miss Xu Xiaoyan deployed her invincible killing blow, tugging at Yan Fei’s arm and shaking it energetically. "Just this once; it’s been so long since I had rabbit meat. Just one trip, Yan Xiaofei..."

What could Yan Fei do? He could only agree.

The two of them took the two dogs and stood by the roadside for ages before a taxi finally arrived. When the driver heard they were heading to the wild in the dead of night, he promptly made an excuse and apologized before driving off. Yan Fei wanted to suggest paying more, but the taxi was already gone without a trace.

You couldn’t blame the driver; this area was already remote, with few cars coming by. When they heard they were continuing north, going past the North Ring Road, into the real wilderness, it raised concerns. Not to mention that upon returning, they would have two big dogs and the return trip would be empty - after all, the wee hours of the night didn’t ensure safety!

After waiting half the day and not seeing a single car, Yan Fei raised his hand and said, "Let’s go! We’ll walk. Once we’re past the North Ring Road, we’ll be fine, and it’s not far. If you get tired, I’ll carry you later..."

Xu Xiaoyan was in high spirits: "No need for you to carry me. I ran ten thousand meters before and came first!"

The two dogs were also very excited. The pair had done nothing but eat and sleep in the yard. They heard the hustle and bustle outside every day but couldn’t see it. Now that they finally got out, they were overjoyed, barking ecstatically.

Walking under the North Ring Road overpass, a gust of cold wind blew by. Yan Fei quickly stepped forward to shield Xu Xiaoyan: "Are you cold? If so, let’s just go back. I can get up early to catch rabbits for you; it would be the same."

"No worries!" Xu Xiaoyan pushed him away. "I’m not afraid of the cold. Let the dogs off the leash, okay? Otherwise, if there are any rabbits, we’ll miss them."

Yan Fei saw that she truly didn’t seem to mind the cold and nodded his head, releasing the two large dogs, which immediately took off as if in celebration.

Xu Xiaoyan then asked, "Do we need to direct them?"

Yan Fei waited for an absolutely overloaded truck to pass by before smiling and saying, "No worries, just watch. They can manage on their own."

This was the edge of the city, next to the national road. With people coming and going, Yan Fei didn’t expect there to be any rabbits here. Only Xu Xiaoyan, the clueless girl, would think that there are wild rabbits wherever there are farmlands.

If you want to catch rabbits, it’s best to go to the riverside, but Yan Fei had no plans to go there now. With the weather being so cold and in the middle of the night, not to mention the strong wind around the Provincial City, if it was just him it would be fine, but he couldn’t bear to have his wife run so far.

Taking the opportunity while Xu Xiaoyan was busily looking for rabbits in the wheat field with her flashlight, Yan Fei’s figure flashed, and then he shouted, "Rabbit, rabbit, over here..."

The two dogs panted as they ran over, and before Xu Xiaoyan could react, they dashed into the wheat field not far behind them and in almost a blink of an eye, they emerged with a struggling rabbit in their jaws.

"Really? We didn’t notice it when we came over?" Xu Xiaoyan shone the flashlight back and forth until the dogs brought the rabbit back, and only then did she see a real wild rabbit.

Yan Fei grabbed the rabbit by the ears and held it up, smiling and replying, "Rabbits are cunning. It must have been hiding and staying still, thinking we wouldn’t notice it. It waited until we passed by, thinking to escape unnoticed, but unfortunately, it didn’t know that no matter how cunning a rabbit is, it can’t escape the eyes of this hunter!"

"Yeah, right, keep on bragging!" Xu Xiaoyan gave him a look, but it was a good thing Yan Fei had sharp eyes to see her expression. Otherwise, it really would have been hard to tell. "Alright, hold on to it and don’t let it run away. Unexpectedly, today is really starting out lucky. Let’s catch one more and then head back."

"Mhm!" Yan Fei replied, securing the rabbit and continuing to follow the girl forward.

The foolish girl naturally didn’t notice that the rabbit was plump and chubby. Wild rabbits, let alone ordinary domesticated ones, could never be that fat. Moreover, this rabbit had "broken bones"; unless it could grow a pair of wings, it had no chance of escaping the pursuit of the two large dogs.

The flashlight Xu Xiaoyan was holding had been purchased by herself in the Provincial City, and it used small batteries. Such an old-fashioned little flashlight might be okay for use in the room during a power cut, but in the wild, its effectiveness was predictable.

Following behind the girl, Yan Fei secretly chuckled to himself, contemplating when to grab another rabbit from the Dinosaur World to let the two big dogs earn another merit. The girl had no idea that with Yan Fei around, it wouldn’t be a problem, whether she wanted to catch a rabbit or even a dinosaur—that is if he hadn’t been afraid of scaring her.

With that in mind, while the girl was focused on hunting for rabbits, Yan Fei glanced a few times toward the Dinosaur World.

He looked at the few cages of rabbits he was raising, took stock of his Dahe Base, glanced at his starter home on Vegetable Garden Island, and peered at the sea reflecting the starlight...

Just as he looked at the sea, he suddenly paused, his face showing a touch of surprise. Then he quickly walked up to Xu Xiaoyan and said, "There probably aren’t any more around here. Let’s walk faster up ahead; otherwise, all the rabbits we startled will run away. Let’s quickly catch one more, and then we can go home to sleep..."
