Chapter 945: Chapter 513 Outstanding Entrepreneur Yan Fei_3
But after all, this wasn’t Yan Fei’s kind of scene, he had been swept up in the moment and agreed without thinking it through. After dealing with those few requests, he was no longer willing to engage in such affairs, preferring to stay home and tend to his tigers.
Now Boss Yan simply couldn’t sit still; even at home, people would seek him out.
The visitor was Zhou Dalian, who greeted him with a "Brother Fei." This "Brother Fei" was much more heartfelt than before.
After a bit of small talk, Zhou Dalian started talking business, "Brother Fei, here’s the thing, my billiard hall is barely surviving. I’m thinking of opening a restaurant, what do you think?"
Yan Fei was taken aback, "Can you cook beef?"
"I can eat it!" After going through some issues before, Zhou Dalian was much more relaxed around Yan Fei and joked, "I have a cousin who learned from someone else, and I plan on getting his help."
"What about your billiard hall, then?" Yan Fei asked. "There are already so many eateries in town and business isn’t great. If you open one too, you probably won’t make much money, right? Are you thinking of opening it in the county?"
"Open in the county and compete with Fifth Brother? I can find someone to mind the billiard hall for me," said Zhou Dalian mysteriously. "I’ve found a good spot. What do you think about me opening a restaurant along the new highway?"
Not waiting for Yan Fei’s response, he continued, "Here’s what I’m thinking: start a restaurant first. There are many drivers these days, so I’ll leave plenty of space in front and back for parking. It’s hard for drivers to find a place to rest on the road, and the roadside isn’t safe. I’ll also build a few rooms; if anyone wants to stay, they can, and with many of us around, we can keep an eye on the cars. What do you think?"
Yan Fei thought for a moment and felt that this was indeed better than running a billiard hall. Truck drivers had it tough on the road and faced risks, but driving trucks was indeed profitable nowadays. These guys spent money freely since they were always on the road; it seemed like a good business opportunity.
Seeing Yan Fei’s support, Zhou Dalian got even more energized, "I’m also thinking, you see everyone’s making money driving trucks, I’ll observe the market from my restaurant, and when I have enough money, I’ll also try getting a second-hand truck. With more drivers coming and going, I’ll have the inside scoop..."
Yan Fei listened to his long-winded plans and thought that the guy had finally seen the light, ready to get into a legitimate line of work—in the eyes of Sancha River Town folks, running gaming halls, billiard halls, and dance clubs were not considered decent businesses.
Yet, he still didn’t understand why Zhou Dalian came to consult with him. He had beef available anytime here; there was no need for Zhou Dalian to discuss it with him specifically!
It wasn’t until Zhou Dalian offered, "Brother Fei, I’ll give you a 30% share in the dry stock, what do you say?"
Only then did Yan Fei understand. After a moment’s thought, he said, "Look, Old Zhou, you don’t have to do this. We should be helping each other out—you’ve helped me in the past too! Besides, we’re all from the same town. If there’s something you can’t handle, just give me a call. If I’m at home, wouldn’t I come over? Let’s not talk about shares; it’s a good venture, rest assured, I’ll definitely support you."
After much persuasion, he finally convinced the guy to drop the idea of giving him shares. Didn’t this guy know that Yan Fei wouldn’t care about the profit from his roadside restaurant!
Plus, everyone with experience knew that in order to attract customers early on, besides good food, the restaurant would likely have to offer services other than just beef—that was the market trend. Yan Fei was indifferent to whether it was acceptable or not, but he preferred not to get involved.
Zhou Dalian left with a look of regret. If he could have gotten the newly successful entrepreneur Comrade Yan Fei to join him, his business would surely flourish quickly, but unfortunately...
After seeing off Zhou Dalian, Yan Fei no longer wanted to continue staying in Sancha River. There had been many meetings in the village these days, and now he didn’t know who’s brilliant idea it was to drag Old Pan and Lin Baoguo into inviting him too—officially, his role in the village was merely a militia member, so these trivial matters hardly required his involvement.
So he simply packed his belongings, visited his parents in the county, and then went to the Provincial City to join his wife, unaware that the village was quite worried. As his influence grew, having him speak on many issues was very effective.
It was just that he was a bit too young. They wanted to give him an official role, like a representative or something, but it didn’t comply with regulations.
There was another crucial point: any issue in the village ultimately came down to economic development. Everyone knew Yan Fei liked reading newspapers and often traveled outside—he even read newspapers from Hong Kong, staying informed about broader developments that most people in Sancha River Town were not privy to.
Therefore, the village officials, represented by Mayor Chen, were hoping he could provide some advice on matters beyond cattle farming.
Now, even a fool knew that development could not occur in isolation.
Take the fruit trees planted in the rural fields, for example. Though they had not reached three years of growth, many had already anticipated the results.
All in all, this was somewhat of a tragedy. Countless people had invested effort and labor, but the outcome was far from the expected goals. The more pessimistic or clear-sighted had already given up hope of even recouping their investments.
Some things just can’t be rationalized. Tanghe County had thousands of years of agricultural history, and the saying ’plant anything, and it grows’ wasn’t an exaggeration. Whether it was crops or vegetables, including some medicinal plants, all you had to do was plant them, and they would yield a harvest.
But those fruit trees, after three years, still looked malnourished...
So the townspeople racked their brains in search of an "economic growth point"—under such circumstances, inviting Yan Fei to a meeting didn’t seem out of place.
Unfortunately, the way the village officials went about things, including Mayor Chen, was too subtle. They also didn’t understand Boss Yan’s character well; they hadn’t even invited him twice before he dropped the task altogether...
