Chapter 920: Chapter 503 Sending Books by Computer

"Chief Pi, patrolling again, huh?" Yan Fei hadn’t even left on his motorcycle when he saw Chief Pi strolling over from the direction of the train station. Feeling good today, he greeted him.

"Yeah! Boss Yan seems in a good mood. Are you preparing to head off to Provincial City again?" Chief Pi smiled broadly, apparently not catching the sarcasm in Yan Fei’s words—the vicinity of a city’s train station is a patrol priority, but at a small town station like Sancha River, even the mice wouldn’t stay inside. There were hardly any people coming and going, and most were familiar faces you’d see all the time. Was patrolling even necessary?

What’s more, the place was next to a cattle farm. Those ne’er-do-well hoodlums wouldn’t bother coming this way for no reason.

But Chief Pi had this skill, to firmly treat station patrolling as his job.

Watching his cheery demeanor, Yan Fei suddenly had an idea, "Chief Pi, I see you’re not busy. Let me give you a book to read, it’s in a foreign language and really interesting!"

With that, Yan Fei stopped his motorcycle by the roadside, ducked his head, and fumbled in his bag for a while before finally pulling out a book.

Handing it over with an overflowing enthusiasm, "This book was brought over for me by someone from abroad. You absolutely can’t buy it here, I guarantee it’ll be an eye-opener for you."

Chief Pi, this smiling tiger, got puzzled too. When did Boss Yan become so enthusiastic? Usually, it was good enough if he was polite on a good day, but now he was giving gifts? It was like the sun rising from the west.

Upon receiving the book, it was indeed a foreign edition, all in Japanese.

After flipping through it and seeing Yan Fei hadn’t left, Chief Pi felt a bit baffled, "Well, I should thank Boss Yan, but I’m afraid I don’t understand Japanese. If it were Russian, I could make out a little, but I really don’t know Japanese."

This deputy chief was quite something, even understood Russian. Speaking of which, the folks of Sancha River town could be proud enough—such a ramshackle little town, yet here’s a deputy chief who knows a foreign language—and maybe not just one at that!

Yan Fei didn’t care what Russian he knew. He chuckled as he put his motorcycle into gear and left Chief Pi with a parting remark, "The book is really good, I’m not lying to you, Chief Pi. When you have time, get someone to translate it for you and you’ll know. I’ve got to go to Provincial City now and it might be a couple days before we see each other again!"

Now, in the dinosaur world, there were quite a few books in Japanese.

Boss Yan had learned Japanese, but the original textbooks were limited—once finished, that was it. It just so happened that he wanted to read more Japanese books, so on his trip to Japan, he ended up emptying a few bookstores.

That’s how he found this particularly bizarre book—not just ordinarily bizarre. Although Yan Fei had only casually flipped through it before tossing it aside, it had left a particularly deep impression. Originally, it was supposed to be kindling, but now it just happened to have found a recipient in this deputy chief, so he’d ’gifted’ it.

Yan Fei left swiftly, but Chief Pi holding the book was rather conflicted.

It was one thing for others to give him things, but gifts from Boss Yan, Chief Pi really couldn’t be sure. He didn’t need to think twice to know there was a catch to this book. Despite his age, his curiosity was still strong.

Especially after dealing with Boss Yan, he found him quite interesting.

This young boss, who to him seemed nothing more than a child, sometimes appeared to act without thinking yet managed things without any loose ends. Although Chief Pi knew why he was dealing with him, their interactions were always quite strained.

Knowing well the purpose of Chief Pi’s visits, Yan never treated him badly or raised his voice—just showed the pettiness of a child by not offering a friendly face, which Chief Pi actually found amusing.

After much hesitation, Chief Pi’s curiosity won out. He thought for a moment, made a call, and then boarded a vehicle heading for the county seat.

By the time they reached the road leading to the city, a car was already waiting. Without any courtesy, Chief Pi tossed the book at the young driver, "Kid, translate this book for me, will ya? It isn’t one of those racy ones, is it?"

The young man couldn’t help but laugh and cry, "You call me all the way here just to translate a book for you? Who’s got the time—you or me?"

"Just translate it if I told you to, stop your yapping! Hurry up!" the old man ordered sternly.

The young man was clearly familiar with him and didn’t mind his attitude. He opened the book with a smile, but his expression soon turned.

"What’s wrong? What kind of book is it?" the old man asked curiously.

"This..." the young man hesitated. "Where did you get this book? It’s rather... something."

"That kid I’ve been watching gave it to me. Why all the questions?" The more the young man behaved this way, the more anxious the old man grew. "Just tell me what it’s about, will you?"

"..." The young man, pressed for an answer, gave him a troubled look. "Alright, I’ll tell you then!"

"Go on, say it!" the old man said impatiently.

"It’s about a Japanese guy in France who killed a person he fancied, did ’that’ to the corpse, then cut off some flesh to eat. Later, his family got a lawyer and he was extradited back home as a mental case, and a year after that he was released from the asylum. He wrote this book—it’s about his experience eating human flesh, indicating he very much enjoyed it..."
