Although many stories were unofficial history and hearsay, the legends that had been passed down still had some factual basis and were much more interesting—only the older people’s Mandarin was a bit lacking, with a heavy local accent, so the few Hong Kong guests had to rely on someone whispering translations to them.

After several days of fun, when it came time to see off the guests, Yan Fei was a bit surprised—aside from their own spending money, the guests only symbolically paid a bit of the other expenses, much less than what had originally been agreed upon.

The reason was simple: they had a good time playing with Boss Yan these past few days, so they gave a ’friend’s price’. There was actually another reason; these people felt they hadn’t done much and were embarrassed to charge more.

Now, the provincial newspaper had already announced that Provincial City had rooted out a bunch of corrupt officials.

Once it was in the newspaper, it basically meant these people should get ready, as they wouldn’t be acting high and mighty any longer, and could likely look forward to free meals in prison.

Seeing the newspaper, Yan Fei completely relaxed.

After seeing off the guests and returning to Provincial City with the girl, they got off the car and went straight to clothes shopping without doing anything else.

When Yan Fei, carrying a small bag, got on the car to go home with the girl, he started grumbling, "If the clothes are too tight, what if they hurt you? What if our future kids go hungry? What will you do then..."

Xu Xiaoyan immediately glared at him, "Yan Xiaofei, can you stop being so vulgar? You’ve been mumbling like this in the store, making others laugh at me for a long time. Are you looking for trouble?"

"No!" Yan Fei flatly denied. "I’m just worried that if these clothes are too tight, it might affect your development later on!"

"Development my foot! How old am I already..."

"Good, you deserve the pinch! I was talking about my age, not size. Are you pretending to misunderstand on purpose?"

The young couple on the bus, head to head, chattering and occasionally creating a fuss, was a common sight for the passengers. With so many schools in Provincial City, the students were very bold; young people fooling around like them was nothing out of the ordinary.

After getting off the bus, the couple continued their playful banter as they walked home. Just as they were about to open the door, a middle-aged man and a young man approached: "Are you Yan Fei?"

Although Yan Fei was talking to Xu Xiaoyan, he had already noticed these two men. Dressed crisply in suits, they stood by the roadside beside a parked car, seemingly waiting for someone.

Still, Yan Fei had not expected them to be looking for him.

Seeing the two serious-looking men in suits, it didn’t seem like they were ordinary people. Yan Fei handed the keys to Xu Xiaoyan: "Go on in and check if the dog food is all gone. We haven’t been here for a few days so I bet they gorged themselves silly at first and starved later!"

Xu Xiaoyan didn’t take the keys, staring at the two men and asking, "What’s the matter?"

She didn’t deny that the person next to her was Yan Fei; his behavior had already indicated as much, and denying it now would be pointless. Besides, they had come right up to the door, which meant they had done their homework.

The young man, still somber, pulled out a badge: "We are from the Red Discipline Inspection Commission, this is my ID, we need to understand a situation. Please come with us for a moment!"

"The Red Discipline Inspection Commission?" Xu Xiaoyan was immediately puzzled.

"Haha..." Yan Fei laughed. "If there’s something to say, please speak up! If not, I’m heading back. Since when can the Red Discipline Inspection Commission pick people up at will? You two must be joking with me, right?"

After speaking, he turned to Xu Xiaoyan, "It’s all good, hurry up and open the door, otherwise those two rascals inside will scratch it all up."

The young man, already at a loss for words after hearing the earlier remark and turning red with restraint, nearly exploded upon hearing the latter comment. Luckily, he heard the whining of dogs and the sound of paws scratching at the door from inside and realized that Yan Fei wasn’t actually talking about him.

In Provincial City, regardless of the department, even those with real power had to show deference to them. When had they ever met someone so discourteous, and just an ordinary person at that?

Actually, it was precisely because he was an ordinary person that Yan Fei was so confident; he couldn’t see how the Red Discipline Inspection Commission would have any jurisdiction over him.
