Chapter 905: Chapter 498: Celebratory Dinner
"Everything has been said, do you have any more questions?" Yan Fei sat in his office like a king holding court, smiling at the person in front of him.
"Uh, Boss Yan, could we talk alone for a moment?" Comrade Yang glanced at the few people standing at the door and pleaded in a low voice.
This Boss Yan really had a tough spirit. When had he ever encountered someone so unyielding?
It seemed like he was supposed to be the one asking questions, right? But facing Boss Yan, who was not even that much older, he always felt like he was with a monster, unable to muster his usual tough demeanor.
What did that feel like? Right, like the time he visited the Provincial City zoo, where they had just acquired two supposedly wild tigers. He had felt that same apprehension then. Even though the tigers were behind cages, and even though they hardly paid him any attention, the occasional glance in his direction was enough to make him involuntarily tense.
Thinking about it, Comrade Yang felt that when he returned, he might have to visit the famous temple nearby Provincial City to get a talisman. Why did this assignment feel so fraught with difficulty?
Waiting for two or three days would irritate anyone. Moreover, Comrade Yang, who was used to making others wait, was particularly impatient and irritated, aggravated by the local nobodies giving him the run-around.
Normally, he would be quite angry at this point. But today, for some strange reason, he had wanted to lose his temper but ever since he saw Boss Yan, even he hadn’t noticed that he seemed to speak in a somewhat subservient tone.
How odd! Since when did I have to speak so meekly when asking others questions?
But now, Comrade Yang had no choice but to do so, for he hadn’t yet completed his mission!
Think about it and you’d understand; in the days here, he had come to realize just how powerful Boss Yan was. Didn’t they have lawyers and journalists all prepared already?
And the resistance he had encountered over the past two days while trying to get information proved that this bumpkin of a boss was definitely not someone he could easily manipulate—no one in town would even show him a friendly face when he inquired about Boss Yan.
It wasn’t surprising Comrade Yang felt something was amiss. Boss Yan had been flying about, incredibly busy these past two days. Now that the job was done and he could relax, his mood greatly improved. Seeing Comrade Yang, he looked at him like he was ’meat’ targeted for prey.
In his gaze, there was an involuntary ferocity that seemed even more brutal than that of a top predator, an aura of ruthlessness many times more intense than a wild tiger in the forest. Comrade Yang, under such scrutiny, couldn’t help but feel alarmed.
"Let’s not talk alone, if you’ve got nothing else to ask, then hurry up and leave!" Yan Fei said as he stood up. "I don’t have time to waste on you, to be honest, the fact that I’ve put up with your nonsense for half an hour is already a sign of my boredom! Go on, get out..."
After speaking, Boss Yan walked out, incredulously watched by Comrade Yang, toward the people from Hong Kong and said, "Folks, I haven’t been around these past few days, sorry for not being a good host! Just wait a little, this afternoon we’ll hire a car and go see the Chrysanthemum Exhibition!"
The leader, Jia Hao, seemed confused: "Boss Yan, you’re not going to just let this go, are you?"
The visitors from Hong Kong were no fools, although they hadn’t experienced the beginning of the incident, they had been involved throughout the process. The local culprit had just been transferred to the county, and immediately a support investigation team from Provincial City had arrived. Even a fool would know there was more to it than that.
Heizi and the others waiting at the door were also puzzled: "Brother Fei, don’t leave us! We’ve been worrying our hair white while you were away. Look, see? There really are white hairs?"
"Beat it!" Yan Fei wasn’t polite to him. "The white hairs you got were probably from serving your wife, right?"
A few women standing not far away couldn’t help but chuckle, casting their eyes toward Heizi’s wife, whose belly was getting bigger...
Heizi had been increasingly attentive to his wife, lacking experience, and had caused several gaffes. Previously, he even tried to catch crabs in the river at night by flashlight for his wife to eat. His intentions were certainly commendable, but his methods left much to be desired. It was lucky he didn’t attempt the cooking himself and had instead asked the chef to help. The chef had scolded him and then cooked the crabs for everyone to share—only then did Heizi realize that pregnant women are not supposed to eat crabs.
He had been doing a lot of things like this lately, always trying to find something different for his wife to eat. Anything he could think of, he tried haphazardly. Thankfully, the experienced chef in the kitchen and Lin Yumei, who had been through childbirth herself, were there to vet his choices, which ended up adding to the variety in the staff meals.
After the laughter had died down, everyone still looked at Yan Fei with some concern, wondering how he could be so sure that this matter wouldn’t cause further trouble in the future.
Seeing their worry, Yan Fei continued to play coy: "Don’t rush, the person inside is still making a call for instructions! Wait until he comes out, then you’ll know! Ha ha..."
The saying ’no trouble, no weight’ really wasn’t wrong; after the strenuous past two days, he had stuffed the copied documents into packages late at night and filled every mailbox in every office, signing the anonymous letter as ’a famously unnamed person.’
