Chapter 823: Chapter 448: Honest People Cannot Be Bullied
Yan Fei went to the cooler Bamboo Forest Shed, not because the cattle farm was actually hot; located by the river, this place never really got too hot. Now, there were some trees planted in the middle of the cattle farm, and because of its geographical location, it wasn’t like other places where there’s not even a breath of wind when it’s windless.
It was purely because there was nothing much for him to do here. Everyone else was busy, and as the boss who neither worked nor went to school, he felt a bit guilty. More importantly, nobody would bother him by the river, and those Guan Village folks wouldn’t come to find him for no reason...
No sooner had he arrived at the shed than he noticed that no one was around, probably because they went to be mentors at the sheds in the western village. He didn’t mind and just continued to work on how to settle the cattle in the Dinosaur World.
In the evening, after coming up with some new ideas, he was about to cook when he saw Guan Shi and the other four return.
Seeing them as tired as oxen that had plowed all day, Yan Fei was displeased, "You guys went to give guidance, how come you are so exhausted?"
When the boss asked a question, the young man called Guan Shi honestly answered, "It didn’t seem right just watching others work, so we helped out a bit since there were things they weren’t too good at. They invested a lot of money in building the shed, and we thought to help as much as we could so they could start making money sooner..."
After listening to their explanations for a while, Yan Fei felt even more displeased.
You were supposed to just be mentors, merely giving some guidance. Why did you do the work yourselves?
After much interaction with these people, and having grown up in the town, watching his grandfather sell tools since he was a child, and after two years of tempering, Yan Fei was no longer the foolish lad who only knew how to work blindly.
He might not be familiar with people from other villages, but as for the folks in the western village, especially the first group to build sheds for mushroom cultivation, they were the ones who sold vegetables on the streets all day. There were certainly honest folks among them, but to say they didn’t have some trickery up their sleeves that would be unrealistic.
Thinking this, he waved to tell them to hurry up and take a bath before returning to the cattle farm to eat, while he made up his mind to have a look tomorrow. He couldn’t let these young fools be deceived by those cunning folks!
Using the excuse of inexperience to let my workers do the hard labor for you, right? Even if these five fools weren’t his own people, he couldn’t stand by and watch honest folk being bullied. He’d see how he’d deal with them...
Though he was inwardly fuming, he didn’t really take it as a big deal.
Just as he was about to go to the Dinosaur World to work, his pager buzzed insistently. Checking it, at this time, of course, it was from that well-known girl, reminding him to remember to go to school on Monday tomorrow.
Oh, Yan Fei was a bit taken aback. So tomorrow was Monday? It turned out today was Sunday. Then what he did at the cattle farm, taking a break was quite normal; why the guilt?
Unfortunately, he planned to see how these five fools from Guan Village were "mentoring" others, and probably wouldn’t have time to go to school tomorrow.
Having found an excuse, this guy felt justified in continuing to skip school—habitually skipping school eventually becomes a habit. Just the thought of the crowded classroom, especially in such hot weather, instantly dissolved any desire to go to school!
With nothing else pressing and no one around, Yan Fei simply entered the valley.
Of course, it was the valley where No.1 Coolie and No.2 Coolie were. As soon as they saw their chief arrive, they immediately reported today’s work: "Boss, we have dealt with the python, and as you said to have Pancake feed the newcomers. We have so much python meat, which can’t be kept for long, and we’ve got plenty already cooked, so maybe..."
"No, no!" Yan Fei immediately dismissed their idea. "These people have just arrived and can’t even speak our language. Giving them meat would be a waste!"
In fact, the suggestions from these two were sensible. The climate around the valley was rather hot, and even though there were ever-cool spots in the valley where the sun hadn’t shone for tens of thousands of years, such an environment was still of little use to preserving python meat, which simply didn’t keep well.
Therefore, No. 1 and No. 2 Coolies were no longer foolish because Yan Fei would bring them some meat whenever he remembered. Every time he delivered meat, they couldn’t possibly finish it in two or three days. To avoid waste, they did what Yan Fei did, cooking the meat first and then turning it into jerky.
By now, at least half a ton of python meat had been completely cooked by these two, hanging everywhere. The few dogs remaining in the valley were so well-fed they lazily didn’t bother to welcome Yan Fei anymore.
After finishing his words, Yan Fei saw that the two were completely exhausted from the day’s labor of cleaning up such a massive python and cooking so much meat, which was not an easy job. Not wanting to tire them out further, he thought for a moment and then said, "Forget it, you don’t have to make pancakes either. You’ve been tired all day long, get some rest early! After all, starving for one day won’t kill you."
"Isn’t that a bit...?" No. 1 Coolie felt somewhat remiss. They had no clue who had been captured or how many people there were. It had been so long since they’d seen any other living souls, and the idea of potentially living together in the future and having companions excited them. Although they were men who’d kill without batting an eye, now they couldn’t bear to let others go hungry.
"What’s wrong with that?" Yan Fei spoke matter-of-factly because the two had behaved well, so he patiently explained. "You know I’ve been raising some cattle outside, and they’ve been growing well. Those people thought I looked easy to bully and sent spies to figure out how I feed my cattle. Last night, I took a trip to their place and emptied their cattle farm. Those people are from Japan; they deserve to starve, don’t worry about them."
No. 2 Coolie was extremely curious: "If people from Japan are here, they won’t understand us when we speak, will they?"
"If they don’t understand, can’t you beat them until they learn how to speak? If they still don’t listen after a beating, just tell me, and I’ll send them out of the valley to play with dinosaurs," Yan Fei glared at him, annoyed by No. 2’s foolish question. "Remember this, from now on, you two are the masters of this valley. These dogs you’ve raised are top class; those rabbits, wild chickens, domestic chickens, and these cattle are second class; and the people who will be coming are third class. Got it?"
Upon being glared at, No. 2 inadvertently drew back, nodding his head and replying, "Got it, got it!"
He had been thinking about bringing some food to those people, but now it seemed unnecessary.
Actually, those people that Yan Fei had dumped by the cave near the lake were bustling with activity after discovering there were dinosaurs here, discussing various ways to explore this world, to ensure their survival for the time being, and even whimsically trying to figure out how to get home.
And then there were people like Warrior No. 1, QuanKoizumi-kun, who were dead set on making contact with dinosaurs first.
This brash guy wasn’t particularly well-liked, and if it weren’t for his dependable work ethic and responsible approach to assigned tasks, his rash nature would have gotten him kicked off the ranch long ago.
But now, suddenly, his popularity skyrocketed as everyone earnestly persuaded him not to take risks—every plea deep with concern. Joking aside, since they’d found herbivorous dinosaurs, there were bound to be carnivorous ones, not to mention the occasional pterosaurs flying overhead. If such a fool ran out and died, who would they send out for the next dangerous task?
Therefore, QuanKoizumi-kun was quite frustrated, hiding in a corner by himself, mumbling about his childhood dreams without discussing them with anyone. As long as he didn’t go to his death, no one bothered with him.
In the minds of some, this rash individual was bound to die sooner or later. He simply couldn’t be allowed to die now—at least, not until they’d come to a collective decision about what to do, so he could die properly later, right?
On the surface, these people from Japan seemed quite calm despite being thrust into such a mysterious environment, shouting and calling incessantly. But if one looked at their complexions, it was clear these people were merely using non-stop talking to mask their fear.
Suddenly, they had quietly arrived in a completely unfamiliar environment. Even though several among them were called experts, they couldn’t explain the situation at all. If they really could maintain their calm in such a situation, only fools like QuanKoizumi-kun could do so.
The group yammered on until their stomachs started growling loudly. Only then did they realize that regardless of how grand their plans were, they had to first address the most critical immediate need—getting enough food to avoid starvation.
