Chapter 747: Chapter 378: A Bunch of Troubles_1
The big truck rushed all the way, almost reaching town, Yan Fei turned over in his mind how to handle this situation. After thinking about it, he told Old Ou: "Drive directly to the Armed Department, I’m a militiaman not from the police station, if there’s a matter, we need to find the organization, we’re not going to the police station..."
Old Ou snickered and took a deep breath, saying with a strange look on his face: "And this matter can be brought up to the organization?"
Yan Fei, too lazy to explain, said: "You won’t understand, just drive your car, we’ll talk when we get there..."
The gate of the Armed Department was not accessible for large trucks, so Yan Fei jumped down as soon as they stopped by the gate, ran in and shouted: "Who’s in the department? Come out and help? I’ve caught some criminals, let’s lock them up here for now..."
His shout brought out Old Pan and two young men. Old Pan asked him: "What kind of criminals have you caught this time?"
Yan Fei chuckled: "Uncle Pan is here! This is a complicated matter, let’s lock these people up first and then I will explain it to you slowly!"
Old Pan didn’t ask any further, and got the two young men to help. Once the people were brought down, he heard the fat man shout: "We’re from the security squad, how dare you arrest people arbitrarily, is there still law and order?"
Yan Fei laughed: "Just now at your place, I clearly heard someone say that you guys are the law? Now, we here don’t talk about royal laws, but legal laws. In a while, my wife and I will discuss and see how many laws you have violated..."
Seeing that Old Pan looked suspicious, he quickly explained: "Uncle Pan, I didn’t arrest these people without reason, just look at the condition they’ve left my people in? These people impersonated law enforcement officers, illegally detained and assaulted our people from Sancha River, so I brought them all back. Also, half a truck of beef in my vehicle was also distributed by them. Uncle Pan, you keep these people locked up first, we can talk when Uncle Baoguo comes back, OK?"
Upon hearing that even the beef was divided by these people, Old Pan hesitated no longer and nodded: "Fine, I’ll keep them locked up here for now, tell me the whole thing later!"
Yan Fei agreed, helped shove the men into a room in the small courtyard. After all the people were crammed in, he let those with bruised faces and swollen noses go back and rest first, checking for any hidden injuries on them, and also to report that everything was okay to the cattle farm’s stay-behind personnel.
Pang Fa was left behind and explained the situation in detail.
There’s always a reason for a fight, except for those rare occasions where a conflict arises simply because someone decides they ’don’t like your face’ on the street.
The problem still lies with the cheap beef from the cattle farm.
Pang Fa and a few others circled around the city before the traffic police went to work, delivered all the wholesale beef they could, and according to the old rules, got out of the city area before the traffic police started work, and started doing transient peddler business around the city.
When they were near the place of the incident, which was near the wet market, someone came to cause trouble. First, a young man came and said he wanted some people to cheaply deal with the beef on the truck for him.
The price of this beef was already quite low, but the young man’s price was even cheaper than that of pork, so of course they didn’t agree.
"If you don’t agree, then just go! And don’t ever sell or wholesale beef here in the South City District again!" The young man immediately issued an ultimatum to them.
If this young man had just said to just leave, or even if he’d gone a little further and said not to sell around here, the guys in the truck would have definitely left. After all, this is not Sancha River, and they didn’t want to cause any trouble.
But when he said that they were not allowed to sell beef in half of the city, isn’t he overstepping his boundaries a bit?
Pang Fa and the others are also young men, usually not very easygoing, and argued a bit when they heard these words. They were actually preparing to leave while arguing since there was still beef on the truck that couldn’t be delayed for today at least.
But to their surprise, they couldn’t leave after just a few words. Suddenly, a few dead rats were thrown onto the truck, then a few people came to surround the truck and claimed that this was diseased beef or something.
Once the dead rats were thrown, Pang Fa and the others had to object, right? These guys are not from the city after all, and they have to return once they’ve sold all the beef. Unlike these local hooligans who are guarding here, if they allow them to spread rumors every day in the wet market, sooner or later this will get out of hand. By the time the story morphs into seven or eight versions, who would dare to buy when this big truck loaded with beef comes into the city?
What followed was shouting, swearing, pushing and shoving, escalating to fighting.
The few of them didn’t expect that there was a fierce man like Old Gao in the truck, moreover besides Pang Fa, Old Ou and the others had also practiced a few days of Kung Fu with Old Gao. If ordinary people practiced a few days of Kung Fu, it wouldn’t have much effect. But these people had all been through countless battles and had plenty of fighting experience. After being trained by a professional fighter like Old Gao, they swiftly defeated the other guys.
After the fight, a few of them tried to flee in a car, but weren’t successful. The others were well-prepared; as soon as a few were knocked down, the public security team arrived. They proclaimed themselves as from the police station, effectively freezing everyone in place.
Luckily, Pang Fa had the presence of mind to get someone to slip out in the commotion and make a quick call for help.
What was infuriating was what happened next; after they were arrested, they were basically ignored until Lin Baoguo finally arrived, driven off by the anger. That’s when the others started beating people up inside. Pang Fa only then realized that the call they’d managed to make was a deliberate part of their plan; they wanted to see if they had ’back up’. If they could bring in someone important, they probably wouldn’t have had any problems. But after waiting a while, all they got was a small-town police station chief. That’s when the others started to relax.
They were nothing but a bunch of country bumpkins, without any ’background’ to intimidate, and yet they dared to beat people up here. Were they looking for trouble?
It was only after the beatings that Pang Fa and the others finally understood the real reason behind all this. They had been wholesaling beef in the city—it didn’t matter that they had a few beef shops in the South City District that had always been cooperating with the wet market to sell beef. Now, they had cheaper beef available, and although they had not completely severed ties with the market, the quantity of beef they bought from them had greatly decreased.
To be able to work with several restaurants in the city and open up a large beef shop, you needed connections and a good reputation. But how capable could they really be? Pang Fa and their beef truck wouldn’t have had any problems if they had simply avoided coming here. But now they’d stepped on the landmine themselves. To put it in their words, they’d asked for it—they chose not to take the easy path to heaven but instead forced their way into hell...
The situation was just that simple. The surface-level fighting was actually fueled by underlying profit motives. The cattle farm’s massive supply of cheap beef being sold in the city affected other people’s business if the restaurant they were cooperating with was too numerous.
After listening to everything, Old Pan thought for a while before asking: "Is everything you said true? They didn’t mention buying beef from you or anything, and directly asked you not to sell beef in the southern half of the city area? Do you remember how much beef you had left in your vehicle before you were arrested? You still have your money right?"
"The money is with us. They didn’t check us when they arrested us; we still have it strapped to our bodies. There isn’t much beef left, probably a few hundred catties. We would have to go back and check the accounts to be sure!"
Pang Fa, still angry after talking for so long, swore: "Would I dare to lie to Minister Pan here? We are invading their territory; we’re not fools. If their conditions were a bit more relaxed, we would surely have agreed! If the price they quoted weren’t so outrageous, we would have been happy to supply beef to them directly in the future. I can guarantee it would not be less profitable than their current arrangement of buying and slaughtering their own cattle!"
After listening to Pang Fa, Old Pan had a better understanding: "As long as the money is safe, you guys calculate how much beef is left when you get back... Why can’t people just do business properly? They’re used to pulling such bullying tactics in the market; they’re just trying to intimidate you first! Well then, let them remain locked up for now, we can discuss further when Director Lin returns. I don’t believe that they dare to come and snatch people here!"
With Old Pan’s words, Yan Fei felt reassured. Standing up, he said to Old Pan: "Uncle Pan, I’ll make a trip back first. I just got back from the provincial city and haven’t even gotten to the cattle farm yet!"
Just as he finished his sentence, someone rushed in from the outside: "Is Boss Yan here? I saw that the truck returned..."
A young man standing at the door shouted towards the outside: "Wen Zheng is here, come in! We’re all in this room!"
The person who arrived was Dang Wenzheng from the police station. As soon as he pushed the door open and greeted Old Pan, he turned to Yan Fei and said: "Xiao Fei, your uncle called and asked you to send the people back!"
Without thinking, Yan Fei replied: "Why not just say that you couldn’t find me?"
Old Pan laughed on the side: "If we can’t find the people, that counts as a kidnapping. Wenzheng, you go back and tell them that our people were arrested by our armed department, implying that our people are afraid to go to the city for fear of being arrested. Tell them that if they want to resolve the matter, they can come here. Tell them that the armed department in the countryside is very poor, they can find a broken cell to detain people, but they can’t afford meals!"
Dang Wenzheng was confused and retorted: "It was Director Lin who made the call..."
Old Pan waved his hand: "Your Director Lin is in the city, can he not make that call? Just reply like this, and don’t say anything else."
Dang Wenzheng agreed and turned around to rush back to the police station.
As soon as Wenzheng ran out the door, Yan Fei gave Old Pan a thumbs up: "Uncle Pan is awesome. You talk with such confidence! I’ll send Brother Fa back and then come right back. Don’t worry, we’re honest folks, we wouldn’t leave you to deal with this mess alone."
Old Pan waved his hand: "Go on! Make it quick! I guess your uncle will be back soon, this is gonna be a long drawn-out affair!"
Without further ado, Yan Fei led Pang Fa out the door, hailed a tricycle, and rushed back.
As soon as they entered the cattle farm, they saw a crowd of people standing at the door. Among them was a middle-aged woman they didn’t recognize, sobbing. A sense of foreboding suddenly filled Yan Fei’s heart.
