Chapter 726: Chapter 363: Heizi’s Big Wedding Refrigerated Truck_1

The vehicles from Hong Kong were driven by two drivers who were both familiar with mainland China’s circumstances, one of whom was a bodyguard who had been here before. He originally brought a master of quality control, but rumor has it the master had hopped on a plane midway and was waiting early at Jiang City’s airport.

They set off yesterday morning, but quite unluckily, they had overestimated the current traffic and their own speed.

If the entire trip had been on a high-speed road, the nearly three-thousand-mile journey would’ve been long over. They would’ve then loaded the goods, and hopefully, have arrived at Hong Kong by late tonight. Unfortunately, the highways available are few and far between, mostly situated near large cities for short stretches. Like the one at the start of their journey, but the rest were mainly on national highways - toll booths littered the way, and vehicle inspections were even worse at night.

Thankfully, their vehicles weren’t large trucks; at most, they were cargo vans, and these were less likely for inspection. Additionally, the drivers were all from Hong Kong, and it was now the eve of the handover. As long as their paperwork was in order, concessions were made, otherwise, more time would have been wasted.

Luckily, the Hong Kong side had initially set aside a trial operation period, where being a day or two late really didn’t matter much.

As Yan Fei was pondering these matters, the popping sounds of firecrackers were heard from the main entrance of the cattle farm. So, he immediately dashed over.

At the very front of the crowd at the entrance, Heizi stood upright in spotless attire, even sporting a small red flower on his chest, grinning from ear to ear. If you ask Old Gao, Heizi was ’dressed up to the nines, grinning like the cat that ate the canary’.

However, Heizi didn’t have the time to bicker with Old Gao at that moment. Nothing could dampen his spirits as he stared fixedly at the incoming vehicle carrying the bride, not even impacted by the popping firecrackers by his side.

Following the last deafening bang from the firecracker, Heizi darted out through the lingering smoke, much like a kamikaze soldier on the battlefield. Running up to the car, he pulled open the door, picked up the bride, and bolted!

The procedure at this point was for the bride to change into a pair of new shoes before exiting the car. Wearing these new shoes, she would enter her new home, with her feet not touching the ground before she entered the bridal room. Heizi probably had this all agreed on beforehand with the bride, as she had already changed her shoes.

The crowd of onlookers was initially stunned and only reacted when Heizi had already raced through the gate. Laughter instantly erupted as everyone followed by rushing inside.

It just goes to show that a strong body is a blessing. If it had been the skinny Heizi from before, carrying the bride, he definitely wouldn’t have been able to run. Then he would have been in trouble. Keeping the bride in his arms was a must, but this would usually result in a bunch of rascals encircling him, deliberately delaying his entrance with the slow act of throwing flower petals and what-not, unwilling to stop until he was totally exhausted.

But now, by the time everyone entered the yard, Heizi was already heading towards the bridal suite on the second floor with the bride.

The bridal suite was a simple single bedroom. Heizi sent the bride into the bedroom, slammed the door shut, and shouted from outside, "Auntie, you’re my own auntie! Please don’t open the door for anyone else! If there’s anything you need, just call for Heizi. Whether it’s climbing a mountain of swords, plunging into a sea of flames or diving into a deep fryer, I’ll do it all!"

Upon hearing the elderly woman’s laughter from inside and her promise not to open the door, Heizi showed his proud smile. He then turned to face the wide-eyed and tongue-tied bunch at the door with a roar, "You blockheads, you’re too late!"

A few youngsters were about to rush over to snatch the key from him. In response, Heizi held up the key to flaunt it in front of the crowd, then bent down and slipped the key under the door while evading the hands trying to grab him, "Honey, take the key, you know what to do right?"

The bride inside giggled and reassured him, "Don’t worry, it won’t matter who calls, I won’t give it to anyone!"

This guy was ruthless! Just to avoid any wedding pranks, he even locked the bridesmaid out!

Before the bride enters her room, the female family members usually go inside and spread things like peanuts and jujube on the bed, and let a little boy roll over it, symbolizing wishes for an early birth of a son. However, since everyone had gone out to welcome the bride, there was only the elderly woman, whom Heizi addressed as auntie, left inside, and she certainly won’t participate in the pranks. Hence, after he got the bride inside and locked the door from the outside, he truly left no room for failure.

Everyone understood the meaning behind these procedures, which were mostly done with the hope of increasing the family’s population. Some even planted a pomegranate tree in the courtyard as a symbol of a large progeny. However, now, it was no longer possible to have numerous offsprings, giving birth to a second child could come with a fine that ordinary families would struggle to afford. Moreover, there was already a baby in the bride’s belly, so there was no need to strictly follow some of these procedures.

Meanwhile, the bridesmaids who arrived late weren’t fools. One who had come to see the bridal chamber ahead had wisely hidden in Ma Chao’s wife’s room with the rest.

Then it was Heizi who began to suffer, being messed around with by a group of guys. Everyone knew that such an opportunity to play around with him came once in a lifetime because no matter how much they teased him today, he wouldn’t get angry. It would be a missed opportunity if they didn’t make the most of it now.

There were a few people mockingly demanding the keys, but everyone knew that it was not going to be given. Besides, the bride was pregnant, so they were all just shouting with no one really intending to barge in. After all, the bride would have to come out at lunch to toast, and no one would leave too early in the afternoon anyway.

Someone on the scene shouted, "Hey, don’t close the door! We haven’t finished all the rituals, and the one who’s supposed to give the bride washing water hasn’t gone in yet."

Heizi’s head, which now looked like a ransacked henhouse due to all the ruffling, emerged from the crowd, "Just pass it in through the window!"

After the bride enters the room, a child is supposed to go in with a fresh face basin and towel to let the bride wash her hands and face. This task was popular among children, since the bride would give the one holding the basin a small red envelope after washing her hands - sometimes it would be a handful of coins thrown directly into the basin, sometimes it would be a banknote of at least five or ten yuan in the red packet.

There were other procedures like the bride rummaging under the box and such, rather tedious ones, but Heizi’s action of locking the door had thwarted them all. However, no one could blame him since they all knew his circumstances were exceptional, and they couldn’t really pester his pregnant bride too much.

Yan Fei, who had been reluctant to join in the commotion before, now wanted to join the crowd. But Xiang Rui stopped him, "Don’t go. Most of the guys out there are just street kids. They’ll feel uncomfortable if you show up!"

How frustrating! But who could blame them? His reputation was growing. The young guys who usually hung out on the street, the ones he knew well, were fine. But the ones he didn’t know would inevitably be a bit reserved around him.

Among the crowd were a few classmates who were related to Heizi’s family. Because of his reputation, they were too shy to greet him. Those bold enough just greeted him as "Brother Fei", making him feel like a notorious gangster.

He turned his head and saw a few people being enthusiastically led by Heizi’s parents towards a small house on the side. These were the people who had come to send off the bride. Their task for the day was already done. Now all they had to do was eat, drink, and have a good time.

The mute boy was also dressed up nicely today, clearly in clothes prepared by his parents. However, they probably made the clothes according to his old measurements. Unfortunately, the lad has grown a bit more now, getting closer to Old Gao’s height. His brand new Zhongshan suit on him looked like a tight shirt, with buttons unable to fasten properly.

Just as Yan Fei was about to go over and say a few words, two blasts of a horn sounded from the entrance. Turning his head, he saw a cream-colored cargo truck slowly driving in. The front of the truck’s cargo area jutted out a bit above the driver cabin, looking like it was wearing a hat.

Someone hopped off the truck as soon as it stopped. Yan Fei recognized the man and walked over with a smile.

There was already a stove set up for cooking. To save time, Yan Fei quickly got the master chef to prepare some dishes for the wedding party. As soon as that was done, he got him to quickly prepare a dish or two for these three guests.

The third guest seemed to be the expertise who would be inspecting the beef. He was a bit older and must have been exhausted from the mid-journey flight. After exchanging a few pleasantries, he wanted to take advantage of this opportunity to check out the beef.

The expert mentioned that this truck had a built-in refrigeration system. Yan Fei didn’t dwell on it, instead he instructed someone to call a few people from the field to help load the truck. He then led the expert to the back to look at the beef.

Despite his exhaustion, the expert was incredibly diligent. He didn’t seem disturbed by the somewhat chaotic scene. He picked up a knife from nearby and started carefully inspecting the beef.

After observing for a while, he nodded in satisfaction, "Not bad, it feels even better than Australian beef. I’ll take a closer look when I get back, but there should be no problem from what I see now. That’s right, you’re Boss Yan, right? Is all the beef here like this?"

Yan Fei confidently responded, "Definitely, don’t worry. Feel free to inspect any cattle in the field, I guarantee there won’t be any issues."

The expert was even more satisfied. "Can you show me your cattle?"

He’d actually seen them when he came in, but he wanted to get a more in-depth understanding of the situation. Despite spending several days here, The Sixth Miss Guo’s men were novices, they couldn’t provide much valuable insight.

After inspecting all the cattle, the expert cheerfully arranged with the driver, "Call back, the beef should arrive tomorrow morning, so you can prepare for the trial operations in the evening. Also, tell Miss Guo to quickly arrange air freight for the next shipment. We shouldn’t waste so much time."

Yan Fei was curious, "Air freight means transportation by airplane, right? But I don’t have a refrigerated truck to deliver it to the airport here?"

The expert laughed, "You don’t need to send it, we’ll send our truck to pick it up. Then this truck will go directly to the airplane. Once we have enough time, you no longer need to slaughter the cattle and then load the truck. Just drive the truck here in advance, and after slaughtering and dividing the beef, you can put it directly into the truck."

Yan Fei finally understood. He thought that they intended to use this small truck for transportation back and forth from Hong Kong. Turns out they were just being cautious at first, waiting for everything to be confirmed before switching to a more suitable method.

He should have realized it himself. The beef in this truck was worth more than initially estimated, reaching almost two hundred thousand. If they just used this truck for transportation and there was an issue on the road, not only would the meat go to waste, but it would also impact the business. There would be a huge loss.

The folks on the other side weren’t fools. They would have calculated this. It wasn’t a one-time deal, so there would need to be a stable transportation route in the long run.

Because of Heizi’s wedding, this truck that came from Hong Kong had arrived and departed quietly. The first big deal and first shipment for the cattle ranch had started uneventfully.

Those who came to join in the festivities knew at most that this truck had come to haul beef from the outside. They marvelled at how grand it looked, unlike the run-down vehicles from their little town which felt like they would fall apart with a little speed.

In reality, everyone’s perceptions weren’t wrong. The vehicles that ran within the county were all second-hand, or even third or fourth-hand when they were just bought. Virtually no one would spend so much money on a new vehicle.

So, the fact that Heizi’s wedding was able to muster up a few decent looking cars was considered pretty impressive in town.

Actually, many families could afford to hire cars, but they were reluctant to spend the money. Money wasn’t easy to come by. If they spent it now, what would happen in the future? Would they be able to earn it back?

Only those with confidence and prospects would dare to spend money, believing they could earn it back in the future. If you spent money recklessly just to show off, you weren’t being extravagant, you were squandering resources!
