Carrying a Jurassic on me
Chapter 680 - 328: What’s Meant to Come Will Always Arrive _1

Chapter 680: Chapter 328: What’s Meant to Come Will Always Arrive _1

Despite Zhou Dalian now often caring about face, in fact, he did many face-losing things in the past.

At this moment, Yan Fei was talking to the girl, "Don’t be fooled by his current appearance, the money he used to open his billiard room is all ill-gotten. I heard Heizi say that when he was poor, in order to curry favor with a supervisor at the agricultural machinery company, he met a puddle on the road while out, he directly jumped into the puddle to carry the man across. Somehow he ended up scamming the guy, getting a lot of money from him, and now that guy has been transferred somewhere unknown..."

Xu Xiaoyan was continuously studying and didn’t know about this matter and was quite surprised: "So he is so bad!"

"So what if he is bad? That’s in the past. I heard Old Pan say during the last training session, that he is a clever man. Can’t you see he’s also on the right track now?" Yan Fei said with a smile. "Besides, with me around, what are you afraid of? Even if he had the guts of a leopard, he wouldn’t dare to have designs on us!"

This judgment was not incorrect. Zhou Dalian is one of the smarter ones among the ruffians, knowing that using the money for legitimate business is the key, unlike those fools who feel that swaggering down the road without anyone daring to provoke them is awesome, but in reality, they all end up badly. The smart ones get to work early, the absolute fools waste years and end up empty-handed. As for the unluckiest ones, they could only end up in jail, counting ants for fun.

Of course, in the eyes of the townspeople, running a billiard room is not a proper job either. However, it is at least legal, just like video game arcades, an emerging industry where management is unregulated.

As they walked to the pier and continued their conversation, two old men were still there. The old man who claimed to know about boats suggested to Yan Fei, "Boss Yan, I think this boat of yours could be a good one with a little repair! I could lend a hand if you ever need it and I won’t charge anything. I’m just itching to do something in my idle time and could use your boat for practice!"

Hearing the old man’s offer, Yan Fei was taken aback, and then he laughed: "Alright! We are still quite excited about it these days, so we’ll play with it for a few days first. If you still want to work on it after a few days, you’re welcome to come over for it!"

This old man could see clearly. It was clear to him that Yan Fei got this boat purely for fun and didn’t really care about it. So, he dared to propose the idea of using it for practice. But since he dared to say so, he must have some skills. Otherwise, if he broke the boat, wouldn’t that offend Yan Fei?

Seeing Yan Fei nod his head, the old man was delighted, "Rest assured, Boss Yan! Although I’m a bit rusty, I haven’t forgotten the basics. I’ll take good care of your boat. Come on, get on the boat first, and I’ll just untie the rope for you..."

It wasn’t until Yan Fei leisurely paddled the boat to the middle of the river that he heard the other old man blaming, "Why didn’t you discuss this with me? Isn’t this inviting trouble? He’s a big boss, what will you do if you break his stuff?"

The old man was quite optimistic, "We haven’t had any boats in our river for such a long time, and now that we finally have one, I simply couldn’t resist. Don’t worry, I might be a bit rusty but I’m sure I won’t break the boat..."

Yan Fei and the girl got on the shore, with a small backpack and some snacks and drinks, and set off downstream again.

From the greenhouse to the cattle farm, the river is quite straight, so in a few strokes, they reached the cattle farm. When they arrived at the estuary of the Sancha River, they saw a group of people clearing out cow dung.

The group was taken aback to see them paddling their boat over. It wasn’t until Yan Fei called to them that they snapped back to reality. Ma Chao, with a bewildered expression, asked the two of them, "Where did you guys find a boat? Is it useful?"

Yan Fei did not answer his question, "The two of us are going to the county town by boat for fun. If something happens in the farm, call me on my pager. Anyone wants to go with us? My boat is big enough to carry a few more people."

Seeing their affectionate appearance, who would feel inclined to go? Besides, who could just leave everything like him and not do any work?

No one wanted to go, which was just what the couple wanted. They cheerfully paddled the boat and with a growing speed, and before they knew it, they turned a corner and were out of sight, under the skeptical gazes of the crowd.

The river winds in and out, so it’s certainly not as direct as land. But Yan Fei rowed with strength, and they also had the benefit of the current. It didn’t take long, just over two hours to get to the county town. This was even considering the girl wanting to enjoy the scenery along the way so Yan Fei intentionally slowed down the pace.

As Yan Fei’s boating skills improved, their wooden boat also steadied on the river surface. Listening to the sound of the water and watching the sceneries on the river banks recede into the distance was an extremely novel experience for the girl.

When they arrived at Fifth Brother’s place in the county town, the couple was too busy to reproach him for not visiting for a long time. When they heard that they had arrived by boat, the couple immediately got excited and insisted on seeing it, regardless of the state of Fifth Sister-in-law’s pregnancy.

The couple was always up for a good time, so they quickly instructed their staff about the tasks for the day and rushed with them to the river bank.

The boat trip thus transformed into a group of four. There were many people coming and going on the county bridge. When some of them inadvertently saw the boat in the river, they were immediately drawn to it.

In a short while, a large number of people were standing on the bridge looking down. Some, who recognized them, were shouting greetings to Fifth Brother - given the considerable height of the bridge from the river surface. Of course, recognizing Fifth Brother from such a distance was mainly due to the distinct physique of the pregnant Fifth Sister-in-law sitting next to him, or they wouldn’t have been sure it was him.

Upon their return, the restaurant started to get busy, and the old man gave Fifth Brother a thorough scolding. But after they had dealt with the rush, the old man also came over with a big smile, "Come on, Yan Fei, take me on a spin around the river on your boat..."

It was only then that Yan Fei realized that boating was quite a novelty.

Others couldn’t fly through the sky or dive into the sea like him. The river in Tanghe County hadn’t seen a boat for many years, so it would have been surprising if it wasn’t a novelty.

When he and the girl returned to Sancha River in the evening, there was an additional person in the boat. It was none other than Yan Fei’s brother.

Yan Fei noticed that everybody found a mere boat to be so intriguing. In the afternoon, when Fifth Brother and his crew began to get busy, he went back to wait for his parents to get off work, and his younger brother to finish school. His parents, keen on seeing the boat their son had made, promptly gave in to temptation and came over shortly after dinner, notwithstanding their exhaustion from work.

By the time it was getting dark, Yan Fei decided to head home instead of staying in the town with the girls. However, his younger brother flatly refused to leave, insisting on playing with his elder brother.

As a kindergarten student, his attendance was not strictly necessary, so he tagged along and became part of the boat crowd.

Despite the fading daylight, the little fellow was brimming with excitement, not scared in the least, and even hollering out in exhilaration. His enthusiasm lifted the spirit of the slightly exhausted Xu Xiaoyan, who chuckled along with him.

However, by the next morning after another round of play, Yan Fei was no longer in the mood for games.

Director Dai from the cattle research institute called, saying that Yan Fei’s project could proceed.

Director Dai didn’t reveal much over the phone, but he actually had a hand in getting things moving. He remained modest, not mentioning his contribution.

Of course, the main catalyst was the ’accidental collapse’ of the building, a delay proposed by the Japanese delegates involved in the cattle farming project. There were few at the research institute who knew the full situation, and they thought it was simply a small cattle farm. A little delay seemed inconsequential.

Capitalising on the chaotic aftermath of the Japanese delegates experiencing their own metaphorical hell, Director Dai seized the opportunity to bring up the cattle farm project again.

Since most people weren’t clued in on the details, there wasn’t much resistance, allowing Director Dai to get his way.

Regarding Comrade Guo, who was very familiar with the situation, he was currently wallowing in sorrow at the hospital, lamenting his impending days of hardship. To make matters worse, when he woke up, he accused others of pushing him.

This accusation annoyed everyone in the research institute. When they exited the building, they were all together; no one saw anyone else in the vicinity.

Given his unpopularity and the suspicion of false accusation, some suggested it was he who fell from the staircase, therefore the incident couldn’t be considered a workplace accident.

None of this mattered to Yan Fei as he was immersed in his bustling construction work.

The boat kept everyone busy. Whenever someone was free, they would hop aboard and enjoy the thrill of rowing. Even Ma Yongming’s construction crew couldn’t resist; they took turns experimenting in their after-work hours.

For the first two days, Yan Chao became a frequent passenger on the boat. He refused to leave until the novelty wore off and the boarders became strangers, which finally appeased him.

Soon after, some town folks heard about the boat and came over for a ride, creating quite the ruckus over several days. It was only when too many people piled onto the boat and it capsized, that the buzz died down.

Retrospectively, it was quite a terrifying incident. Fortunately, the boat hadn’t drifted too far before it tipped over; and most people in Sancha River could swim. Hearing the commotion, Yan Fei also rushed over immediately, preventing any accidents.

However, the incident served as a reminder that the boat needed repair. Its thickness was almost equivalent to a wall and the wood used was still damp causing it to overturn so easily.

In the midst of all the hustle and bustle, what was meant to happen, happened.

Fortunately, Director Dai came prepared with all the necessary equipment, although Yan Fei still hadn’t got his premises ready.

So, when he received the confirmed news of the imminent arrival of the investment representatives, Yan Fei remained composed.

After all, everything was in place, who could turn that around?

As for the investors, they were just side issues.

If the sky were to fall, there would be taller guys to brace it. If there was no one to hold it up, he would be that person.

As the saying goes, "Accidents can happen at any moment, but misfortunes are often invited by oneself." And, "Whether it’s a disaster or not, one cannot escape fate..."

There’s also the saying that...

Well, in Yan Fei’s view, those adages did not bear the word ’fortune’. He remained utterly composed!
