Chapter 660: Chapter 312 Trouble with Foreign Capital_1

In actuality, when it comes to Yan Fei’s affairs, whether it’s in town or in the countryside, people would haphazardly discuss it. If they had any dissatisfaction, they wouldn’t dare say it not only in one’s presence, but also behind their back.

As the number of people related to the bull ranch increases, ordinary people don’t even dare to gossip about it. To be honest, there must be people waiting for someone to speak ill of Boss Yan, and then they would use that to curry favor with the people in the ranch by snitching!

Even if they can’t ingratiate themselves with Yan Fei, they could at least curry favor with the few young men who have recently entered the bull ranch. If they encounter any issue in town in the future, they could ask them for help—even if it’s just speaking up on their behalf—which happens frequently. Things like unintentionally offending someone or having a housing dispute because of residential land issues and so forth. In town, these matters are generally resolved privately and seldom do people seek formal ways to file a complaint.

These are just minor issues that Yan Fei usually doesn’t pay much attention to, but unwittingly, the influence of the bull ranch in the town is growing. Of course, a lot of the credit goes to Heizi, who is never afraid of offending people. Plus, with all the experience he has gained, most of the time he would handle these matters fairly, considering Yan Fei’s reputation and not behave recklessly.

Upon returning to the ranch and seeing that there isn’t anything urgently requiring his attention, Yan Fei took his wife straight to the county town.

He needed to report any recent progress to his parents and have his father help review if there was anything he had overlooked. Basically, there are always things to discuss between them, either big or small, and a lot of the time his father’s advice isn’t exactly very helpful, except for some guidance on social norms and relationship wisdom.

Of course, as the bull ranch continues to grow, even if there are shortcomings in dealing with social relations, people can’t nitpick with Yan Fei.

During lunch, Xu Xiaoyan was promising to take Yan Chao shopping after lunch when suddenly Yan Fei’s pager rang.

Picking it up and taking a look, Yan Fei was somewhat puzzled.

Yanfei’s father saw his unusual look and asked, "What’s wrong? Has something happened at home?"

"No, it’s from Director Dai of the Beef Cattle Research Institute in the city. The one we visited yesterday. He asked me to call him back immediately. I’ll go return his call to find out the details."

"Then what are you waiting for, go make that call!" Yanfei’s mom urged.

Yan Fei put down his chopsticks and left, but returned after just a short while with a not-so-pleasant expression on his face.

Before anyone could ask anything, he began, "Director Dai said he heard some rumors that someone might want to invest in my bull ranch."

"Invest? For no reason, why would someone want to invest in your bull ranch?" Yanfei’s mom asked in surprise.

"There must be a reason. They’re interested in the breeding bull technology of my ranch." Yan Fei responded, getting annoyed. "It’s all because of those Japanese people causing trouble. They’re just jealous because the breeding bulls in my ranch are of superior quality."

"Japanese investment? Isn’t that foreign investment? Having foreign investment is a good thing!" Yanfei’s mom said, suddenly excited.

"Stop fussing, Yan Fei knows better whether it’s a good thing or not." Old Yan could tell from Yan Fei’s expression that there was something wrong. Having received a bit more education, he had a clearer understanding of some issues compared to Yanfei’s mom.

"How am I fussing? Are you belittling me now, Old Yan? Humph! Don’t think I won’t make an issue out of this just because of our son. Let’s wait until our son is gone, then we’ll talk!" Yanfei’s mum was very embarrassed to be spoken to that way in front of her son and future daughter-in-law.

But she’s tough on the outside, soft on the inside. She knew she wouldn’t be able to add much to the father-and-son discussions, so she just took Old Yan’s empty bowl and went to serve some rice.

Yan Fei’s mom’s opinion was quite common at the moment. The moment they hear about foreign investment, not to mention an ordinary fertilizer factory worker like her, even some local leaders think alike.

Actually, if it wasn’t for Old Yan’s observation of his son’s expression and his guess that there might be some problems, he would have thought the same.

Such a small-town cattle farm suddenly receiving news of potential foreign investment would be like a dream come true! Now, many areas have issued various preferential policies, just hoping to attract investors, let alone foreign ones. It’s a desire many can only hope for!

Yan Fei collected himself after momentarily losing his cool and detailed the recent events at the ranch to Old Yan. He repeated some of the details that he might have previously forgotten.

After listening, his father asked, "What did Director Dai say? Did he formally inform you?"

Yan Fei shook his head, "It wasn’t a formal notification. This information was incidentally overheard by someone working under Director Dai who happened to be passing by someone’s door. He isn’t sure, so he called me in advance for me to think of a countermeasure!"

"What does he suggest?" Old Yan asked.

"He’s also part of the research institute, so there are some things he can’t clearly express, but he obviously doesn’t agree. He said my technology, even if only I control it, is still part of our Chinese technology. If there’s no need for investment for the cattle ranch to develop, it’s best to withstand the pressure to avoid accidentally leaking the technology to outsiders."
