Chapter 645: Chapter 302: Raising Cattle with Qigong_2

Watching Heizi leading the man away in a daze, Yan Fei wasn’t sure if he had really caught his meaning. He had wanted Heizi to keep an eye on the guy, to see what stuff he picked up and where he put it, so Yan Fei could easily switch out the bone meal-laden items later. But given the worried look on Heizi’s face, he probably hadn’t grasped the idea.

The foreigner seemed even more enthusiastic seeing the cautious manner of Heizi, boasting about how advanced the research institute was, how they had fully modernized and automated cattle feeding, the experts they had, leaving Heizi dumbstruck by all the bragging.

While idly chatting with Dai Chengfu, Yan Fei was carefully observing the others around him.

People from Sancha River village were visibly pleased. A small local cattle farm being recognized by the institute was something to be proud of. Their conversations had no bounds, with no intention of hiding any information when asked.

Luckily, those not from the cattle farm didn’t know about the bone meal. They bragged that the cattle farm even employed veterinary station workers for regular check-ups and helping with cattle breeding and leading everyone to prosperity. At most, they knew that the owners often went to the Provincial City to learn advanced cattle farming practices.

"I was with the cattle farm right from the beginning. You might see many people at the farm, and I am a cripple, but none of them came earlier than me! If you have questions about the farm, I’m definitely the one to ask," Yan Fei suddenly heard Old Cheng’s voice.

Turning his head, he saw a middle-aged man of short stature who was getting answers to the questions he had asked Old Cheng, "So you raised these Breeding Bulls? They look really good. There must be a secret, right?"

"Absolutely!" Old Cheng was basking in the warm sun, his face full of mystery. "But you must not spread what I’m about to tell you! It’s our cattle farm’s secret. The boss doesn’t allow us to reveal it."

Upon hearing that, the short middle-aged man’s face instantly perked up: "Don’t worry, the confidentiality rules at our city’s research institute are even stricter. Whatever you tell me will go straight from your lips to my ears, and I assure you it will never leave my lips."

While saying this, he glanced nervously at Old Gong. The two old men didn’t seem too interested in making a fuss. They were just sunbathing together!

"Don’t worry about him. He’s so deaf that he’s worse than blind. You could detonate a bomb next to his ear and he won’t hear it." Old Cheng said with a grin.

One look at Old Gong’s eyes, and you would know they don’t work well. After hearing Old Cheng’s comment, the middle-aged man stopped paying attention to Old Gong.

Seeing the desire for knowledge in the middle-aged man’s eyes, Old Cheng continued to smile and say, "I’m not afraid to tell you -- our boss is very capable. You might see us feeding the cattle during the day, but the real key isn’t in the daytime, it’s at night. Did you know? Our boss is skilled in ancestral Qigong techniques. He is incredible. These bulls have grown so big because he personally performs Qigong on every single breeding bull at night, clearing their meridians..."

At first, Yan Fei thought Old Cheng was being irresponsible by revealing the farm’s secret so casually. But after hearing what he said, Yan Fei almost burst out laughing. So much so that Dai Chengfu, who was standing next to him, looked at him strangely and asked him what was wrong.

On second thought, of course Old Cheng, a veteran who has seen actual combat, would not blabber just because someone asked him. He was clearly deceiving the man with a bunch of nonsense, who intended to uncover the secrets of cattle farming.

As expected, the middle-aged man’s face turned sour after hearing the Qigong story, as if he had just eaten something bad. Not only him, even Old Gong couldn’t hold it in. He twitched his face twice, picked up his stool without a word, and fumbled his way back to the house. He probably couldn’t bear to stay here listening without laughing.

Old Cheng was dead serious, speaking as if it were an absolute truth. He continued to brag, "Please don’t doubt, you saw that big guy over there, didn’t you? He knows martial arts, an absolute pro, killed people before and just got out of jail a few days ago. He heard that our boss knows Qigong and didn’t buy in, wanting to test his skill. You guess what happened?"

He leaves the listeners in suspense, then continues whispering in a secretive tone, "Our young boss struck once from ten meters away, and he instantly kneeled down begging to be his disciple. Our young boss didn’t agree, saying he’s too old. Yet, he insisted on working in the cattle farm, without any wages, just to steal some skills. Don’t disbelieve it, why else do you think our young boss could breed so many kinds of cattle? Without that ancestral Qigong, what does a kid know about animal husbandry? Don’t let the boss’s size fool you. Between you and me, he’s only in middle school..."

Yan Fei tuned this old man’s nonsense out not far into his monologue. It was way off the mark. Yes, he knew the Seventy-two Changes, but he didn’t have the capability to strike from ten meters away! If he continued to goad the old man, he might spook the breeding bulls in the cattle farm to death with his tall tales.

Ironically, the middle-aged man, who was initially very skeptical, later learned that Yan Fei had been breeding cattle since graduating elementary school and, as he listened, began to be reeled in by Old Cheng, even starting to believe him.

As Old Cheng began to brag relentlessly about how amazing our young boss is, how he can tell there are fish in the water just by standing on the riverbank, and how he can attract shoals of fish by simply striking once, allowing them to be easily fished. As his storytelling became more and more fantastical, the middle-aged man eventually couldn’t bear it any longer and said goodbye, deciding to fish for information elsewhere.

"Hey, buddy, why is it that everyone else is not working, but you’re the only one slogging away here?" This time, the middle-aged man approached Gao Bin, the model worker of the cattle farm. "What are you dealing with? Are those things related to cattle breeding? What are they?"

If this middle-aged man wanted to fish for information, of course, he wouldn’t do it in a crowd. So he chose those who looked less sociable and alienated from the group. First, it was Old Cheng, now it’s Gao Bin. Even if they are not part of the conversation, others tended to watch the excitement. Yet, there he was, squatting under the sun, busy with something!

Seeing the middle-aged man approaching and trying to strike up a conversation, Comrade Gao Bin gave him a grin and continued with his work.

"You’re so hardworking. How much does your boss pay you every month? How long have you been working here? You’re really good at your work. Our research institute is in need of solid and diligent young men like you. Are you interested in trying it out with us?" As he spoke, the middle-aged man extended an olive branch. "Oh, by the way, I see your cattle are really well raised. I heard your boss also knows Qigong, did you know about that?"

Gao Bin just flashed him a grin and didn’t say a word.

"What’s there to hide? Let me tell you! If you know any secret tips, join our research institute, and we’ll promote you directly to a researcher and offer you this much salary. How about that? Tempted right, young man?" The middle-aged man gestured a large amount as he spoke. "No bragging, but in our institute, researchers are given housing, not like this kind of tiled house, apartment buildings! Young man, it seems like you aren’t married yet..."

The middle-aged man kept trying to seduce him into sharing information, talking and talking. Gao Bin, who had been silently working with his head down, finally responded. He pointed to his ears and mouth, opening his mouth to ’speak’!

Oh damn!

The middle-aged man finally got it. Though he was still wearing a somewhat awkward smile on his face, he felt like swearing deep inside----What is going on at this cattle farm, they hire just about anyone! Just now was a deaf and blind old man, and now there is a deaf mute. No wonder when everyone else was visibly excited, he was the only one not reacting. Probably didn’t understand anything...

Upon seeing him moving that green stuff towards his mouth, it hit him. These are vegetables for the people to eat! He had assumed it was some sort of secret formula animal feed. It turns out he’s a cook! He wasted so much breath on him.
