Chapter 643: Chapter 301: Let’s Visit the Cattle Farm Again_1
At the crucial moment, it was up to Yan Fei. All of a sudden, he said, "I’ve seen the breeding bull, should we go and have something to eat in the town?"
Everyone had just said they would not eat, but now he was proposing to eat, which was merely suggestive. The underlying implication was clear: you’ve all said you won’t eat and won’t let us reimburse your travel expenses, so we won’t see you off anymore, you should leave promptly!
However, the middle-aged leader of the other side had been waiting for someone to break the ice! They immediately agreed, "Exactly, we’ve seen the bull. Quite impressive. Let’s eat first, and then discuss other details!"
This sudden shift left Yan Fei a little confused, such a drastic change was somewhat difficult for him. After all, earlier things weren’t very pleasant, and his principle was to ignore those he did not get along with, so he never thought the other party would change their tune so quickly just because of his words.
Still, the local officials were more experienced with these things. Now that the idea of eating had been suggested, a clear turning point was at hand. This opportunity couldn’t be missed, and someone immediately said, "Yes, yes, let’s have a meal first..."
"Yes, let’s eat, let’s eat..." For a period, people from both sides started to accept the invitation, and the atmosphere soon became harmonious.
Even though it wasn’t mealtime yet, these folks acted as if they had missed it. With a signal from the leader, everyone, with their sedans, Jeeps, bicycles and motorcycles, made a big move towards the restaurant.
The little town didn’t have any fancy restaurants, but at least they had eateries with separate rooms. Although the rooms were small and unable to accommodate everyone, two adjacent rooms would do!
It was customary to have drinks with a meal. As the rounds were served, the atmosphere became increasingly lively.
Although the foreigner didn’t say much, his attitude had changed. Yan Fei had initially thought that the guy didn’t understand Chinese!
However, once he began speaking, it was clear he was very fluent in the local dialect of Wan City.
Ordinarily, Yan Fei, being carefree, wouldn’t have paid much attention to this detail. After all, it wasn’t surprising that someone who had been in Wan City for quite some time would pick up the local dialect.
But Yan Fei wasn’t ordinary. While driving behind these individuals on his motorcycle, his keen hearing, out of habit, tuned into the conversation in the car.
It wasn’t that he harbored ill-will towards them, but there was a possibility of strengthening the partnership. Moreover, he had always been skeptical about foreigners. The roundabout negotiations with the Hong Kong people previously had made him slightly wary.
Who would have thought that he would glean nothing of value from his eavesdropping - what he wanted to hear the foreigner say in the previous conversation didn’t come through. He was speaking in his native language, a language which Yan Fei, who had no interest in learning English, did not understand.
Now that he had finally comprehended that the man could speak the local dialect, he felt aggravated that the man had deliberately spoken in Japanese in the car just now. Consequently, he assumed – out of spite – that the man was definitely speaking ill of him earlier since he couldn’t understand him!
The man leading the negotiations from the other side was called Dai Chengfu. He directly spoke to Yan Fei about the technical conditions required for importing their technology, such as hardware measures, like building a sperm extraction chamber and refrigeration equipment, etc.
Renovation of the cattle farm was ongoing, so these conditions weren’t a problem. While the cost was high, funding was readily available. The technique required minimal equipment, medicines were readily purchasable and tasks such as sperm collection and appropriate storage procedures didn’t pose challenges.
The cattle farm didn’t need high-end equipment. As the demand for bull semen was local, stock preparations were sufficient and they didn’t need to store it for a long time. Unlike a research institute, which needed to deliver products to various regions and towns, even out of town, which has a significantly higher demand.
Dai Chengfu and Yan Fei got on well. Yan Fei didn’t need any persuasion and agreed directly to the conditions that were raised. He even immediately planned the location at the cattle farm for the rooms. His attitude was exceptionally positive.
Even about the expenses, Dai Chengfu sheepishly stated that the equipment cost includes a part of the technology transfer fee, accounting for the steep pricing. Ordinarily, for local technology, the fee would not be charged; however, given the involvement of the foreigner, they had added a tiny fraction to the cost.
No matter whether it was true or not, Yan Fei didn’t make a fuss. He straightforwardly agreed. He had always been indifferent to money, as long as it benefited the cattle farm, a temporary increase in expenditure wasn’t a big deal. After all, they were the ones with the technology!
Of course, this also because he was now affluent and anticipated to be more prosperous in the future; otherwise, he might not have been so agreeable.
In conclusion, everyone was delighted with the meal.
After the meal, Mayor Chen invited them to the town government office. At this point, a young man accompanying the foreigner politely declined, "Thank you for your kindness, but we would like to visit the cattle farm again and learn more about the situation!"
Everyone readily agreed to this request. So, this group noisily returned to the cattle farm.
On the way back, Boss Yan still rode his motorcycle behind the two sedans. Everyone simply thought he was being chivalrous by acting as their escort, not realizing that he was once again using his super-hearing to listen in on their conversation!
Unexpectedly, during the journey, the foreigner again resumed speaking Japanese. This needless follow-up in the car resulted in him eating dust for the entire trip, which was extremely annoying.
Therefore, in his heart, he assumed the worst. He was sure that young man, who suggested to revisit the farm, certainly wasn’t from China. His accent, unlike Mr. Chai Ji’s, was heavily accented, with a slight foreign inflection. The names Chai Qi and Chai Ji sound nearly identical; Chai Qi didn’t roll off the tongue quite as smoothly. Chai Ji, on the other hand, was far more catchy. So in his mind, Yan Fei decided to call him that.
Upon their return to the cattle farm and revisiting the ’hardware facilities’, Yan Fei started to pay closer attention.
Since they had spent a bit too much time eating and drinking, by now, the cattle had already been fed. When he saw them examining the feed, he became more alert.
