Chapter 349: Chapter 69 - Be Prepared to Prevent Revenge (There is a problem in the background, the Chapter release is messed up, this is Chapter 69)_1

"Uncle Baoguo, Director Lin, I’ve been bullied, I’m here to complain! No, wait, I mean to report a crime!" Pushing open the door to the office of the Sancha River precinct chief, Yan Fei saw that only Lin Baoguo was there and started yelling.

"You’ve been bullied? You want to lodge a complaint? And report a crime?" Lin Baoguo felt troubled when he saw Yan Fei’s demeanor. "I knew it, no good comes from you visiting! Can you even bring a gift? You’ve brought something, are you afraid I’ll beat you up if I don’t?"

Yan Fei argued confidently, "What’s wrong? I have been harassed, you know? Can’t I report it to the precinct? I am a resident of Sancha River Town, isn’t it right for me to come here to complain?"

While talking, he looked around the room until he found a nail on the wall. He hung the two fishes he’d been holding onto it and said, "The walls in your yard are inscribed with ’public and police are family, and share fish-water love’, right? Can’t I bring you two fish to express this sentiment?"

Anyway, sharing this ’fish-water love’ doesn’t cost anything. He and Heizi caught them while crossing the river on the way back on a shortcut.

"Oh... Once you hang the fish, the wall gets dirty. How am I supposed to hang clothes now?" Lin Baoguo was rendered speechless by Yan Fei’s incessant questions. Watching him hang the fish without being able to stop him in time, he walked out from behind the desk, found a bucket from behind the door and took the two fish off the wall to put in the bucket.

Only then did he say with a baffled look on his face, "Do you really have an issue? Fine, fine, what exactly is the situation? You should explain it clearly."

Yan Fei waved his hand, "Heizi, report the situation!"

Looking at how Yan Fei waved his hand and then at Heizi sneaking in from outside the door, Lin Baoguo was about to lose his mind. He grumpily said to Heizi, "Come in! You’re not getting into trouble now, are you still scared of me?"

Heizi, listening to this, found it reasonable and immediately felt emboldened. He started blabbering and recounted the entire episode of going to sell the cattle.

Of course, he didn’t leave out the artistic embellishments, such as how he stood up to the dark forces and refused to compromise. How Yan Fei arrived just in time and the two of them reasoned with the other side patiently and kindly. Regrettably, the others, just relying on their numbers, made the two of them carry out ’extremely limited’ resistance.

Lin Baoguo slapped the table, yelling at him, "Get to the point!"

He then helplessly said, "I am genuinely busy. During the autumn harvest, several children in a village were playing with fire. Fortunately, it was discovered in time and only a few wheat straw piles got burnt. Also, luckily the burnt piles were the ones from which the wheat had already been harvested. We are currently busy with a new round of fire and theft prevention propaganda. I don’t have time to listen to your nonsense, just hurry up and get to the point."

After Heizi explained the situation concisely, Lin Baoguo pondered, "These people are indeed hateful. It’s a good thing that Xiao Fei went otherwise someone else would have surely been tricked by them. But what you two mentioned about wanting to go to their territory to arrest them, that’s going to be difficult! The cattle market in the county town is under the jurisdiction of the Cheng Guan Town precinct, and I heard the chief there is a seasoned cop, I’m not familiar with him. This is quite tricky, huh?"

Yan Fei and he had never intended for Lin Baoguo to arrest anyone in the first place. They just wanted to avoid some trouble, but they didn’t expect Lin Baoguo to take it so seriously. They quickly said, "No need to arrest anyone. We just hope that if the precinct there investigates the fight, you could cover for us. What if they cover for their people and arrest us instead? In their territory, we won’t be able to defend ourselves, will we?"

Upon hearing that the Cattle Market was this lawless, Lin Baoguo was genuinely angry. When he realised the two of them’s intentions though -- they were just afraid of any trouble after the fight -- he wasn’t mad.

He sighed, "The moment the strict enforcement loosened a bit over the years, these strange people emerged. Alright, you two can go back! Be aware in the next few days to prevent any retaliation. I’ll make a note of this issue. I’ll communicate with the people at Cheng Guan Town precinct to see how they plan to deal with this!"

Yan Fei and Heizi left cheerfully after getting a promise.

The moment they stepped out, Heizi gave Yan Fei a thumbs up, with a sly face he said, "Brother Fei, your uncle is really one-of-a-kind. If not for you, I wouldn’t even dare to set foot in this place. Today, I got to see the chief’s office, I have bragging rights now!"

Yan Fei felt a bit like he was at his wits’ end dealing with this guy, "I’ve told you, we’re always on the side of reason. Even when we fight, it’s for justice. Can’t you just stand tall? Did you see the big characters on this wall? We’re the people in ’public and police are family’. The police should be close to us, why are you always scared?"

No wonder this guy was able to spin the ’public and police are family’ thing so smoothly earlier, he was learning on the spot.

Heizi felt embarrassed, "It’s just that I haven’t been able to change my old habits yet!"

Yan Fei was left speechless, "You didn’t do any illegal things in the past, and you’re not gambling now, so why are you scared of the police? Right now, if something happens to us, the police should come to protect us. That’s enough, think more about this when you’re free. Hurry and go get the motorbike, let’s see if there’re any cattle left at the Cattle Market!"

It was almost noon and Yan Fei just wanted to try his luck.

But when they got to the cattle market, all that was left was cow dung -- there were no cattle!

On returning to the pasture, Yan Fei hopped onto his bicycle alone and headed over to the vegetable greenhouses, where he stayed alone all afternoon, busy with who knows what.

When it was getting dark, he leisurely returned to the pasture and instructed Heizi, "The people we fought this morning apparently have some backing. I’m afraid revenge might be coming our way during the nights ahead. Go call some of your friends over here. We provide meals and drinks, and in return, they help us keep watch over the pasture at night."

Heizi was puzzled, "Have Old Cheng keep an eye on the greenhouse, no one would go there anyway. With you here, we should be safe, right?"

Yan Fei said, "We have so many cattle here, I’m not afraid of them coming openly, I’m afraid they’ll resort to dirty tricks! Get a few people to guard the early part of the night, and I’ll take the latter part. I’m human too, and I need sleep. I’m afraid I won’t be able to stay awake during the entire night for many days!"

Having heard a lot about these so-called dirty tricks before, Heizi nodded in agreement and went out to find people.

Meanwhile, Yan Fei began to prepare some snacks. He had plenty of eggs, fish, and meat, plus some vegetables, and plenty of wine to go around.

When Ma Chao returned home, Yan Fei asked him to ride the bicycle home first and leave the motorbike at the pasture in case anything happened at night and they needed a speedy mode of transportation.
