Chapter 337: Chapter 57: Taking Pleasure in Other’s Misfortune: The Game Has Gone Too Far_1
Yan Fei resisting the urge not to watch such a thrilling police chase would be strange!
So he immediately dashed after them without a thought.
Watching helplessly as the black car ahead got a head start and was speeding away, the police car behind could hardly close the distance. One of the SWAT officers even poked his gun out of the car, aiming for a while but not firing. Yan just about lost his patience!
As he hovered mid-air, he silently urged the cops on," Hurry, shoot, shoot, go on and shoot!"
He didn’t consider that it was just getting dark, and the roads around the Provincial City were crowded with vehicles. Who dared to shoot randomly!
This chase indeed lasted long enough for Yan Fei to watch from above. Although there were roadblocks ahead, the response seemed rushed due to the short notice. At one intersection, two motorcycles arrived hastily, far from enough to stop the madly speeding black car.
The black car even scraped a farm vehicle and pushed it into the roadside ditch. The police had to respond and left one officer to care for the injured.
But it seemed the black car was almost boxed in. There were quite a few toll booths on the highways at this time, and the spikes laid down to stop cars were a real obstacle its escape. It turned onto a small road.
The unlucky driver had to deal with the ditches the villagers dug on the road. Likely an attempt to slow down the heavy vehicles that often passed by, aiming to skip on toll fees by detouring through the villages.
Villagers saw an opportunity to make extra money as vehicles frequently passed, often running over chickens or ducks. They dug ditches to slow down the traffic, and collected some change as a toll for each vehicle. The accumulated collections amounted to quite a substantial income.
Despite the absence of toll collectors at night, the ditches remained unfilled.
Yan Fei gloated, "Well, if you were driving a tractor, wouldn’t this be an issue? This sedan looks fancy, but I bet people in the car aren’t familiar with the road. They’re going too fast and I’m guessing it won’t be long before they’re out of the game."
Then three men got out of the car, dragging someone who was hat-covered and looked like a child judging by their size.
That hat looks familiar! Yan Fei used one just like that when selling dinosaur bones last year. Once turned around, the wearer couldn’t see anything.
Once they got out of the car, they immediately fled towards the wilderness, the "child" stumbled and cried, unable to see the way, but soon was hoisted on the sturdy man’s shoulder.
Yan Fei was considering intervening when multiple police cars arrived, and a big group of officers began their pursuit. He decided to wait and watch the thugs being captured,
But things seemed not to be going well.
It was the harvest season and the corn and beans in the fields had almost ripened. Under these conditions, the kidnappers played hide and seek with the police amidst the crops.
Thankfully, two more police cars and several motorcycles enclosed the fields.
The arriving officers rushed into the green curtain, and a few of them equipped with old-school mobile phones started to shout amongst themselves, gradually forming a semi-circle and narrowing the criminals’ escape route.
Just at this moment, a gun went off.
The gunshot wasn’t from the cops, who preferred restraint to maintain the security of the hostage. So, the shot was naturally fired by the criminals.
Even though it was just a small handgun, this made it significantly difficult for the police to continue their pursuit, as the sight was poor in the night and everything was obscured by the green curtain.
Bang!
With the sound of the first shot fired by the forces of justice, Yan Fei loudly cheered in the sky.
Sharpshooter!
Yan Fei had learned from his time with Xiang Changqing that if anyone dared to shoot at criminals under these circumstances, they must be a real expert.
Sure enough, the last criminal who was holding the handgun and using the same trick to deter the chasing soldiers was shot by a SWAT officer who had just arrived. The bullet hit him right in the butt as he paused.
Yan Fei loved this. He was furious with criminals doing wrong and still acting arrogant. The criminals deserved some beating!
Unfortunately, the bullet didn’t hit a critical part, and the wound was not severe. The man continued to limp and ran.
When the pursuers were getting closer, the injured man suddenly broke away from the other two kidnappers who were holding the hostage. He ran wildly to the other side, firing his gun randomly to attract the attention of the police.
That’s some loyalty! commented Yan Fei, the commentator hovering in the sky.
At this moment, if the police had a police dog, the man’s attention wouldn’t have been drawn by the gunshot.
Yan Fei was really anxious. The injured man was still able to run really fast, dragging himself and the hostage further and further away. On the other hand, there were still some policemen searching this side. But their attention had been clearly drawn to the other side. They were only half an acre away from the two men holding the hostage, but none of them noticed.
For Yan Fei hovering above, it was always easier to spot things from his perspective. At this time of year, a few people entering the wheat field would hardly be visible even a few meters away, let alone half an acre away. He could certainly see it clearly, but would the men on the ground be able to see it?
As Yan Fei watched the group getting ready to slip away, he finally couldn’t resist intervening.
The strong man carrying the hostage was walking cautiously, when suddenly, a figure appeared within the green curtain in front of him. After a sneaky grin, it took only two steps to get close to them.
This dude was carrying a person! Before he could react, he felt a lightness on his shoulder, and his chest was thumped by the other’s shoulder. In that instance, not only was the hostage taken away, but he also felt as if he’d been carried away on a cloud, soaring backward.
He tossed the hostage behind him, indifferent to the captive’s weak slumping onto the ground. Yan Fei then shouted loudly, "Come on! I’m here! I’m the bad guy, come catch me!"
If you can transform into a dinosaur, you’re stronger and have sharper senses. As a dinosaur with an invincibly loud roar, like a Parasaurolophus, even though it’s not as powerful as the original species itself, it’s pretty loud - not as loud as a train horn, but louder than a car horn, right?
Especially in the quiet countryside.
The two criminals tangled up on the ground were taken aback. They never thought someone would suddenly appear. The hostage had been taken and with all the yelling. Without a doubt, the cops, no matter how far away, must have heard.
After shouting, Yan Fei still chuckled, and said to the two guys who hadn’t gotten up from the ground, "No need to thank me, I am the Red Scarf!"
Having said this, the "Red Scarf" student turned around and prepared to pull up the hostage student whose vision was obscured by a ragged hat.
As soon as his hand touched the hostage’s body, he felt as if his back had been hammered twice.
He also heard two bangs of gunfire simultaneously.
Only then did he realize that he had been shot.
At first, he instinctively thought he was done for, but quickly remembered he shouldn’t fear this.
This scoundrel was too crafty, he had been forced to take out his gun in the beginning and now being blocked by Yan Fei, he pulled out another gun to ambush him.
After realizing this, he wanted to pull the hostage into the dinosaur world to dodge for a moment. He wasn’t afraid of bullets, but the hostage probably was. However, he immediately stopped this motion.
Probably because he was shot twice, his body shook twice, but there were no other reactions. The criminal behind him who shot him fired two more shots.
They were so close that the time between being shot and hearing the gunshots was almost simultaneous.
Yan Fei wanted to avoid it, but he wasn’t sure how to handle the hostage beside him. In his hesitation, the guy who had continuously fired four shots shot again.
Gunshots that were close at hand went off uninterrupted again and again.
Not a single bullet was missed, all of them were blocked by his back.
Only, the first few shots hit a human back, the last few hit a thick tail.
What appeared in front of the two criminals was a massive beast’s body facing away from them. The creature was half-crouching, protecting the hostage securely with its body.
On the ground, there were several bullets under the night sky, gleaming in the light.
The pistol behind him had run out of bullets and began to click against an empty chamber.
It really hurts!
The police who had heard Yan Fei yell earlier were rushing over, both Yan Fei and the two criminals were caught off-guard.
The criminals were stunned by the sight of a real person transforming into a beast, a scene from a mythical story. Yan Fei, on the other hand, was stunned by his impulsive decision.
Since he had already rescued the hostage, he might as well see it through to the end. Suppose it ended up like last time when he rescued the Kronosaurus only for it to die, that would be awkward. He wasn’t afraid of bullets, and his back hurt so much that without much thought, he became an Iguanodon standing in front of the hostage – and the hostage couldn’t see him anyway with their face covered.
But there were still two bad guys behind him!
He changed back and stood there naked for a moment, then lunged at the two criminals.
If they had seen it, then it was their bad luck. Regardless, such scoundrels would be shot dead in prison, so he might as well take care of them in advance.
Seeing him change back and the bullets fall from his body, they screamed just as he reached them. When he caught the two criminals by the neck, he suddenly changed his mind.
Then he disappeared along with the two criminals he was holding, and when he reappeared, he was alone.
He didn’t care about his nakedness yet, the sounds around him were getting closer. He quickly gathered up the bullets on the ground and the shredded shorts from his transformation.
What else?
Ah, footprints!
Two pieces of firewood appeared in his hand. He quickly swept them across the ground and then put them away.
Seeing the hostage struggling violently due to the gunshots and strange noises, he reassured him, "Don’t be scared, the police will be here soon, I have chased the bad guys away."
Only after saying that did he transform into a moth, fluttering down to a small tree by the ditch.
