Chapter 317: Chapter 37 Forced to Bully the Old, Weak, Sick, and Disabled_1

Xu Xiaoyan and Zhang Haiyang noticed the small stall selling sweet potatoes, and naturally, they also noticed the two girls unfortunately wounded by Yan Fei’s words.

Xu Xiaoyan instantly broke into laughter, she gave him a glare, and as expected, her fingers dug into his palm once again.

Zhang Haiyang revealed no particular emotion, he looked earnestly at the sweet potato stall with his unwavering gaze, as though the dirty oil drum turned stove was about to sprout flowers.

Yan Fei didn’t care what Little Dark-skinned Girl thought, he already came up with a solution. Whether it was implemented or not was none of his business. He just hoped the next time he came, the Little Dark-skinned Girl wouldn’t be following his wife around anymore.

As the famous saying goes: opportunity often favors those who are prepared.

A certain someone with an undying cunning mind, finally got his long-awaited opportunity just before leaving Provincial City.

Thanks to the thermos. While the girl was alone, bringing him the thermos, Yan Fei caught his chance. He gave a few quick kisses on her cheek vindictively, then left contentedly with the thermos.

He returned to Sancha River town overnight and the first thing he did when he woke up in the morning was to give Old Cheng three bags of seeds.

One bag of green peppers, one bag of tomatoes, and another bag of cucumbers.

He asked Old Cheng to use his spare time to germinate the seeds along with a few others. There was no way to finish setting up the greenhouse in one or two days. It needed time. This period couldn’t be wasted, or they wouldn’t be able to make money before New Year.

The cattle farm added two more workers as Gong Hanqing and his grandson arrived. The more the merrier for work, so this wasn’t a big deal.

This was their first time planting greenhouse vegetables. Even though they only planned to cultivate one acre of land and grow a couple of different crops, it was a good experience. Whether they made money or not didn’t matter as the seeds planted on Vegetable Garden Island were free, so there would be no loss.

As for Gong Hanqing and his grandson being a little reserved since they just arrived, Yan Fei didn’t mind. They would get used to it soon.

The second thing he did was to ask Heizi about the ’admission fee’ of earthworms collected.

At Yan Fei’s query, Heizi’s tail instantly shot up.

The students were on holiday these days, so many children visited the place. Not only were children visiting, even some adults came out of curiosity. Some of them were coaxed by their kids at home, while others just had nothing else to do and came over to enjoy the hype.

Among them, the Trimeresurus jerdonii was the rarest. They had nothing to do at home anyway, so it was a good way to kill time by joining the fun! Besides, after watching, it gave them a memory, and later even if they encounter one, they can prepare in advance, though they may not encounter one in their lifetime.

With every little makes a mickle, a significant amount of earthworms were gathered, filling all the available buckets and containers. The surplus had to be piled up on the dung heap for the time being. If anyone asked, they just had to say it was for growing greenhouse vegetables. After all, others wouldn’t understand, so no matter what they say, they had no choice but to believe it.

It was said that the utterly impartial Heizi, even when his grandfather brought over his little cousin, insisted on an ’admission fee’. He even tried to get his cousin to dig up earthworms at the riverside. She needed to dig two persons’ worth, which ended up with his grandfather chasing him around the cattle farm yard with a walking stick.

It couldn’t be helped that his grandfather was somewhat violently inclined. His little cousin was only five years old, and he was instructing her to dig for earthworms. His grandfather only chased him a few rounds, which was already quite generous towards his grandson.

To encourage Heizi’s absolute impartiality, Yan Fei immediately decided on the spot, that all the morning’s cattle dung would be members to him.

The third thing Yan Fei did was to visit his piece of land. There were no workers present. There were signs of newly turned clods, it looked like they had visited in the past few days.

In fact, for such clay clods, normal people wouldn’t turn and dry them frequently. It was only due to Yan Fei’s urgency that they were turned over a few extra times.

Yan Fei’s real aim was not this, though. He was looking for the old man in charge of bamboo forest.

The old man was tending a small vegetable patch in front of his hut when he saw Yan Fei approaching and he didn’t seem pleased. "What brings you here?" he asked.

Yan Fei was rather baffled, "Old man, have I offended you somehow? Why are you talking to me like this?"

Then the old man began to berate him.

To be fair, the old man was initially quite welcoming of Yan Fei clearing the land in this area. But suddenly he started to be disgruntled. There were two reasons for this. One was that he had suddenly noticed that the little native dog he raised would hide in the firewood pile whenever it saw Yan Fei.

The second reason was that ever since Yan Fei started charging admission to a small exhibition, the tranquility of the bamboo forest was completely disrupted.

Some people, hearing that the Trimeresurus jerdonii was discovered in these parts, came here hoping to catch one to take home.

It wasn’t hard to imagine what kind of people these were. Ordinary people, hearing there were venomous snakes here, wouldn’t come near the place. But those who dared to came were idle troublemakers, or to put it bluntly, unruly ruffians.

The result was that these shady characters came, found not a single snake scale, but instead, caused havoc in the old man’s bamboo forest. After all, they can’t return empty-handed, right? Taking home a bamboo pole to use as a fishing rod wasn’t a bad idea!

Yan Fei argued his innocence, "This has nothing to do with me! I surely can’t bring a piece of meat to your damned dog to please it every time I visit, nor can I prevent people from coming to visit this place, right?"

Well, the issue with the damned little dog did have something to do with him. Because a few days ago while the old man wasn’t around, he was making a lot of noise while working, causing the dog to bark furiously at him.

To teach the little brat a lesson, he re-enacted his dinosaur transformation for it, deepening its fearful memory of him. He had performed this act last year while hunting rabbits but unfortunately, the memory didn’t stick with the dog.

As Yan Fei pleaded his innocence, the old man was not too pleased and continued to mutter and grumble.

Truth be told, Yan Fei had never been fond of this old man either, as his reputation among primary and middle school students wasn’t exactly favorable.

Whenever the children came by, as long as the old man was around, he would interrogate them and watch them like a hawk. Often, he asked so many questions it bordered on harassment.

On Yan Fei’s first rabbit-hunting visit, he was also questioned! It was as if the old man treasured his bamboo like a precious gem.

But after interacting with him a few days ago, Yan Fei found out that the old man was not as unbearable as the children made him out to be. He was just a talkative old man who enjoyed conversing with children, since the older ones couldn’t be bothered to listen to him.

His nosy behaviour wasn’t entirely a bad thing. At least when he was with the children, he would remind them not to go near the river, or poke the wasp nests around the area.

However, Yan Fei had come with an agenda this time. He grew impatient at the old man’s prattling, "Enough with the chitchat! I got business to discuss with you. How much are you selling your bamboo for? How much for one stick?"

The old man counter-questioned, "Are you buying?"

Yan Fei returned the question: "Why would I ask if I wasn’t buying?"

Without skipping a beat, the old man responded, "Half a dime for each stick, chop whichever one you want."

Yan Fei clarified, "I’m not buying just one stick to use as a fishing rod. I need a lot because I’m planning to build a greenhouse."

The old man retorted without so much as a blink, "What greenhouse? Never heard of that. It’s half a dime for each stick."

Yan Fei then got really angry, "With your prices, are you trying to make me exploit the old, weak, sick, and disabled?"
