Chapter 1549: Chapter 744 University Enrollment
"I’ll be back!" Will left these words behind and then walked out the door with great vigor and confidence.
After Yan Fei turned around and closed the door, Xu Xiaoyan started laughing heartily: "That foreigner is really interesting."
"The signing event benefits him too, otherwise, he wouldn’t care so much," Yan Fei chuckled.
Will had come chasing after them soon after they returned, probably because the restaurant wasn’t busy. His goal was still to persuade Yan Fei to consider hosting a book signing event. Of course, Yan Fei wouldn’t agree. He was here to study—was the signing event meant to make his school life more hectic?
Will’s intention was to use this opportunity to promote his restaurant. Now that the restaurant had expanded, the more customers, the better. If he could use Yan Fei’s signing event to boost his popularity, maybe he would attract other authors to hold signing events there in the future, which obviously could be a win-win situation for him.
That’s why Will wasn’t ready to give up in the face of Yan Fei’s rejection, insisting on leaving a final word before departing.
But even with Will gone, Yan Fei still couldn’t have his peace. Not long after, Heizi arrived with a group of people.
In addition to the matter of poaching staff from the leather factory, there was another event that had been scheduled for a while, the National Commodity Trading Fair hosted by Provincial City, which was about to start. The truth was, current products in the venue had no problem selling out; some were even in short supply.
However, attending this kind of fair was also a way to promote their own business. Moreover, the event organizers from Provincial City had sent out invitations and even made a special phone call to notify them. If they didn’t show up, it would seem quite disrespectful.
Actually, attending the fair wouldn’t cost much. Currently, Provincial City was in the early stages of building its reputation. Although the events there proclaimed national significance, their scale wasn’t really that large—hence, the participation fee was quite cheap, and renting a good booth wouldn’t cost much. It was just about having a few people stand there for a couple of days.
Yet Yan Fei had another consideration: it would just be a few days of fun, a goodie for Heizi and the others—as they were initially there only to make an appearance without any plans to achieve significant results, it really was just a leisure trip.
But now, with the task of poaching people from the leather factory, Heizi would likely have his work cut out for him. At the very least, he would need to use these few days to investigate the situation at the leather factory, identify a few skilled veteran workers, and lay the groundwork for future staff poaching.
Yan Fei still maintained an ’I don’t care, you guys handle it’ attitude, letting Heizi and the others take care of the details. After all, they were well-prepared in their minds that their role was just to check in with the big boss and then go their separate ways.
Just before leaving, Heizi couldn’t help but add, "Brother Fei, where did you find those three big guys from? They look even better than the ones we have here!"
He was referring to the three large wolf dogs from the dinosaur world.
As soon as Heizi was gone, Yan Fei began subconsciously fiddling with a small file, starting to polish his nails while contemplating what nonsense to use to deceive his wife.
After filing for a while without hearing his wife’s inquiry, he looked up to see her smiling at him with an amused expression, leading him to feel awkwardly embarrassed: "Why are you staring at me like that?"
"Nothing!" The girl replied nonchalantly. "Just waiting for you to speak!"
"Oh! Speak about what?" Yan Fei responded, feigning ignorance.
"Haven’t figured it out yet?" The girl chuckled. "Haha, I’m going to cook now. I thought you’d say you just made a new friend who runs a dog farm, wondering where this new breed of dog came from!"
"..." Yan Fei was at a loss for words, inwardly grumbling; it seemed his usual tactics weren’t working as well anymore!
Claiming the bees were from a ’friend in the mountains’, then there was a ’friend’ who raised cattle, a ’friend’ who planted trees... It did seem like he had quite a few ’friends’ indeed...
The girl was happily cooking, occasionally glancing up at Yan Fei who stood at the kitchen entrance watching her work. She mused to herself: This big fool, every time he tries to make up a lie, he never finds a good one, just rehashing the same old lines over and over. Are you too lazy to think, or have you run out of ideas?
Yan Fei, watching his cheerful wife, couldn’t help but ask, "What are you so happy about?"
"Nothing! Hehe..." The girl had a ’I’ve got a secret that I won’t tell you’ look on her face.
"Hmph!" Yan Fei harrumphed and put away his file, defiantly breaking the pot and resigning himself. "Those dogs were snatched by me when I transformed into a dinosaur and flew to the dinosaur world, alright?"
"Let go of me, I’m cooking!" The girl struggled a few times and, failing to break free, resigned herself to concentrate fully on cooking instead.
The next morning, having finished breakfast and tidied up, Yan Fei stood in front of the mirror and asked, "How do I look in this outfit for the registration? Still low-key, right?"
Xu Xiaoyan glanced over and said, "When did you get this t-shirt? Isn’t it a bit small?"
Yan Fei looked at the slightly tight clothing in the mirror, nodded, and took another larger T-shirt from next to him: "How about this one?"
Unknowingly, it seems I’ve still been growing!
"It’s fine now!" Xu Xiaoyan looked him over after he changed and nodded her approval. "Just the color is a bit dull, lacking some spirit, huh!"
"Lacking spirit?" Yan Fei straightened up. "Take a look at this handsome young man, and you still think I lack spirit?"
"Hahaha, you really know how to praise yourself." The girl couldn’t suppress her laughter seeing his self-satisfied demeanor. "Alright, it’s fine. Let’s hurry up and go. The earlier we head out, the fewer people there’ll be."
