Chapter 1521: Chapter 731: Doing Good Deeds
Reading thousands of books is not as good as traveling thousands of miles.
After two days, Yan Fei and his group were finally about 1,800 miles away from Frozen Soil City. They were moving so slowly not because the car or the driver was bad, but because no one knew what would happen next on the journey.
They set off the morning before last, rested overnight, and encountered a big traffic jam not long after leaving the city the next morning, which took half a day before they could continue their journey.
To Yan Fei, nothing he saw along the way was particularly surprising. But for the other three, it was different, especially for little Yan Chao who found everything amazing. Lin Haihu wasn’t much better; he felt like he was opening his eyes to the world for the first time, as if he had lived the previous decade of his life in vain...
However, the traffic jam wasn’t the worst part. What was even worse was that Lin Haihu took a wrong turn last night. After finally finding the right way and resting overnight, they hadn’t been on the road for long before they encountered another traffic jam.
Now, Lin Haihu was happily munching on instant noodles and sausages by the roadside with Yan Chao in one hand — the traffic that had started at almost noon was still stuck, and passersby in other cars looked at the food in their hands, with quite a few of them harboring the desire to rob them.
Xu Xiaoyan and Yan Fei were standing under the shade of a tree by the roadside. The girl had had something to eat in the car and was now frowning with worry as she watched Yan Fei answering one call after another.
"It’s fine, as long as it’s been sent out," Yan Fei said, glancing at his phone’s battery level. "Okay Will, I won’t talk to you anymore. I’m traveling outside and stuck in a traffic jam, and my phone battery is running low. I need to save some power."
After Yan Fei hung up, he smiled at Xu Xiaoyan saying, "No worries, it definitely won’t be jammed until dark. The road will clear up soon."
The girl still looked a bit worried when she heard this: "I hope so! If it goes on like this, we will arrive at Unfrozen Soil City tomorrow. By the way, what was Will saying? Did he just mail your book?"
"Yeah!" Yan Fei said with a little pride. "The guy got so hooked on my book that he only just finished reading it after several days, and has only just sent it out. Wife, I’m pretty awesome, huh? Heh heh, do I get a little reward today?"
The girl’s face turned red in an instant: "Stinky Little Yan Fei, you’re just a lecher, always thinking about nothing good..."
Yan Fei chuckled, looking at the people around who had to get out of their cars and cool off by the roadside because of the traffic jam, and said with a smile, "We’re still in pretty good shape, at least we have food and drink, unlike them..."
He hadn’t finished speaking when a middle-aged man carrying a child whose face was stained with tears like a spotted cat, followed by a young woman, came over. The man spoke up, "Young man, I see you have food in your car, do you have any to spare? I’m really sorry, we adults can bear it, but the child just can’t."
The young woman added, "Please help us, sister. We’ll pay for it, is it okay to buy it? Anything to fill the stomach is fine; the child really can’t handle hunger..."
"No need, no need, the child is so cute. I’ll go get him something to eat," said Xu Xiaoyan as she went to the car and brought back some sausages and two packets of instant noodles.
"We don’t have much left ourselves; I’m really sorry," the girl said politely as she handed over the food to the family of three.
"It’s more than enough, we don’t need so much," the man replied, taking out some money. "It’s okay for us to starve a bit, just take two sausages for the child to eat. You guys keep the rest, I see you’re also on a long journey, and need to have some food in the car. Don’t think this money is too little..."
"That’s okay, you guys take it!" Xu Xiaoyan said with a smile. "No need for money, meeting on the road is a kind of fate, some food is nothing."
The middle-aged man glanced at the car from which the girl had taken the food and thought for a moment: "Okay, then I won’t be too courteous. Why don’t we exchange business cards and stay in touch in case we meet again?"
Those driving Jeeps aren’t lacking a hundred or eighty dollars, and this family of three did not seem like ordinary people; to refuse the money again would really be unseemly.
Yan Fei thought this person was straightforward and exchanged business cards with him — sure enough, the man’s business card revealed he was the General Manager Qin of a company in Magic City.
The child munching on sausages happily called out ’big brother’ and ’big sister’ in thanks, and the adults also had a pleasant chat.
However, while they were talking, Lin Haihu’s voice came faintly from the other side: "No food left, if you want to buy, look elsewhere, these are for the two of us."
As Yan Fei turned his head to look, he saw two young men crowding around Lin Haihu and Yan Chao. One of the young men was saying, "Would a hundred bucks be enough? Just for the sausages in your pocket. Tell you what, kiddo, you’re getting a bargain!"
Yan Fei, who had walked over, couldn’t be bothered with pleasantries since they at least offered money, otherwise, he wouldn’t have hesitated to get physical. But he refrained from violence and instead issued a warning: "Huzi, you’re not doing a great job as a bodyguard! No need to fight them, just scare them off with a little show of strength."
Lin Haihu was taken aback, looked left and right, then leaped and kicked a tree by the roadside — embarrassingly, the tree shook violently, a few small leaves detached from the branches, and fell elegantly past the somewhat embarrassed face of Lin Haihu...
