Chapter 1421: Chapter 689 Tiger Has a Baby_2
"Xiao Fei, Xiao Fei, hurry over!" Just as Yang Hongqi hastily finished his meal and went to the kitchen to help Yan Fei wash dishes, an excited voice came from outside. "The tiger gave birth to cubs!""Really?" Yan Fei dashed to the door and asked Old Cheng, who had come to bring the news.
Before Yang Hongqi could react, he realized that Boss Yan had already vanished. Hurriedly following, he caught up just in time to hear Old Cheng affirm, "It’s true, I went to feed the tigers just now, and Tiger San wouldn’t let me near. I thought something was wrong, but then I saw two little ones under its belly..."
Old Cheng was still talking, but Yan Fei had already run toward the animal park. He didn’t even use the gate, jumping directly over the fence, leaving the workers holding their bowls and clicking their tongues in astonishment.
Tiger San lay in the enclosure, immediately alert at the sound of movement, until she saw Yan Fei appear at the entrance. She gave him a low growl, then lazily lay back down.
Beneath her, two newborns lay closed-eyed on the bed of dry grass, their fur still damp!
Yan Fei walked over and wrinkled his nose, noticing an unpleasant smell. That’s when he remembered that they hadn’t bathed Tiger San for a long time due to her pregnancy.
He ran out and shouted to Yang Hongqi, who had just arrived near the park, "Hongqi, hurry back and bring me the blanket from my bed. Bring the velvet one, it’s softer and warmer."
After shouting, he picked up the phone and called, "Brother Hui, have you eaten? The tiger gave birth, come over and take a look. And yeah, invite the old station master too, let him help brainstorm what we need to watch out for with the little tigers..."
Yan Fei couldn’t help but be excited; he had been looking after these tigers alone for quite some time since their rescue. They had been through scoldings and beatings, but they had formed a bond.
Before the old station master and Zhang Hui could arrive, Professor Qi returned from his walk. Seeing Yan Fei’s flurry of running back and forth for blankets and urging others, he chuckled and greeted, "Wild tigers manage to survive without human help, why are you so frantic? You’re always feeding them the good stuff; I bet the mother tiger has plenty of milk, so there’s no need to worry."
Yan Fei finally paused, puzzled, "I was afraid the cubs were premature and wouldn’t grow up strong; they were born so soon, and they don’t seem to be in great shape."
"You’ve been taking care of them for so long, haven’t you asked around? Tiger pregnancies last only three or four months. I remember the timeline you mentioned; isn’t it well past premature now?" explained Professor Qi.
"Tigers can give birth after three or four months? Cows need almost ten!" Yan Fei said, recalling the timeline and then breaking into a smile. "It’s not a premature birth; I got it wrong. I’ll go back inside to check again, heh heh..."
By the time Zhang Hui and the old station master arrived, the little tiger cubs had started to blindly sniff around, searching for their mother’s milk.
Two veterinarians also arrived, and nearly everyone who had heard the news had shown up.
But unlike Yan Fei, who could approach the little tigers, everyone else, including the vets, had to watch from a distance—the cubs’ mother was a real tigress, and since she had just given birth, she was protective. Not even Tiger Da, the father, dared get close to the mother and her cubs.
After spending the morning by Tiger San’s side, Yan Fei came out and happily announced, "Today’s addition to the tiger family is a joyous occasion; we’re adding an extra meal at lunch to celebrate."
Then he picked up the phone and dialed a number, "Director Wang, what are you busy with? I’ve got news for you, my tiger gave birth to cubs!"
Old Wang on the other end was very excited, "Really? Alright, I’ll be right there!"
The birth wasn’t just a matter for the farm; it also had to be reported to the Forestry Bureau!
In just over half an hour, Director Wang arrived, just as Ma Yongming, having heard the news, had come with his wife and son to join the excitement. Director Wang was both admiring the little tigers and his grandson, thrilled from start to finish, his mouth never closing.
The camera originally intended for photographing the little tigers now captured frame after frame of his grandson, until the film ran out.
Director Wang didn’t leave until the evening, mainly because he had also arranged for some officially stamped documents to be delivered in the afternoon. While waiting, he soothed his grandson and also discussed a few matters with Yan Fei.
Yan Fei wanted to keep things low-key, a county bureau’s certification was enough for him, and there was no need for a big fuss—if word got out about the tiger cubs, people might want to take them away under the guise of animal protection. Although Boss Yan was confident he could handle it, he didn’t want the extra trouble.
Director Wang agreed quickly; he had only just secured his position and had no hopes for a promotion in the near future. There was no need to cause trouble for Yan Fei over such a small accomplishment.
Besides, if he could foster a good relationship with Boss Yan, as long as Yan’s enterprises grew, there would be more land returned to grass in the county. Should a promotion opportunity arise, wouldn’t these accomplishments be sufficient to claim credit?
Director Wang reiterated his concerns before leaving at night, reminding that since it was the tigress’ first birth, she lacked experience, and someone must watch carefully. Otherwise, the fragile lives of the little tigers might be at risk due to maternal negligence.
