Chapter 1414: Chapter 686 Doing Research All Night_2

Forget it, I won’t argue with you.

Yan Fei muttered to himself, not moving away but helping Yang Hongqi beside him.

Yang Hongqi was also new to the task and had been assigned to measure the size of earthworms to understand how well they were growing in the provided environment.

Although Yan Fei was the head of the laboratory, there was an abundance of laborious tasks and few chances for the boss to take action himself; so, suddenly being tasked with such tedious work, plus having other things on his mind, he soon made several mistakes, making him quite embarrassed.

Instead, Yang Hongqi kept reassuring him not to worry and finally said, "Boss, you go rest, this kind of small task is just about spending time, needing persistence. You have big things to worry about; there is no need to do these trivial tasks yourself. Whatever you want to research in the future, just assign it to me to manage..."

Liu JinXue listened to this for a while and felt a bit uncomfortable, looked up once, but then thought that it was rather nice not to have someone disturbing his work, and swallowed back what he was about to say.

"In fact, not everyone in the laboratory needs to perform tasks; the person in charge of the laboratory doesn’t necessarily have to do things themselves," Yang Hongqi continued to comfort his idol. "As long as you determine the research direction, other specific tasks can be completely handed over to us to handle..."

Yang Hongqi said this without any hint of sarcasm or irony; he truly believed it. In his view, Yan Fei spending time on research was a waste of time, energy, and talent—he felt that Yan Fei should focus on how to develop the business and how to make the villagers wealthier more quickly.

Next to him, Liu JinXue looked up again, his mouth opening and closing several times, but eventually, he gritted his teeth and held back!

"Boss, what do you think our place is suitable for?" Yang Hongqi, after praising Yan Fei for a while, asked a question he had long wanted to ask.

Before, he felt that he had not achieved much by following the research-obsessed Liu JinXue and spending days in the laboratory, which limited his interaction with Yan Fei. Now he had the opportunity, especially in a laboratory with only three people and in the evening, an environment which particularly encouraged people to speak their minds.

"I really don’t know," Yan Fei paused before he answered. "I’ve never been to your place, and I don’t know much about it. But I can give you some advice."

"What advice?" Yang Hongqi immediately widened his eyes.

"Earn money for them, let them find resources themselves, and you help connect them from the outside," Yan Fei considered his words slowly. "Your place definitely isn’t barren; there must be some specialties, right? It might be something common around you that doesn’t catch your attention or maybe some skills. In any case, there definitely is something there; you probably just didn’t notice or think of it before."

Yang Hongqi furrowed his brows and began to ponder hard.

Yan Fei laughed, "It’s pointless to guess here; you should ask the older people there. Knowing what you have allows you to think of ways to turn it into money. The inability to make money is because they haven’t found a good way; finding a good method will definitely lead to prosperity. Look at us, there were many who raised cattle here before, but they were still poor. Why? Because they didn’t sell their products."

This wasn’t really groundbreaking advice; it was purely because Boss Yan was now more experienced, and many things naturally connected for him.

And what he said was the truth; it’s not that most places don’t have resources, but rather that they don’t know they have them, nor how to utilize them. Of course, there are also some who know they have resources and want to use them but lack the connections.

Seeing that Yan Fei was in a good mood, Yang Hongqi quickly seized the opportunity to ask, "If we have resources, how do we find connections?"

Yan Fei laughed heartily, "That would be easy; you could travel to major cities, ask around, and you’ll definitely find them, right? With the economy doing so well, as long as you have something, you won’t fear not being able to sell it. Besides, with so many people coming and going from our place, you could also ask them, right? Not to criticize, but if you’re always in the laboratory and don’t interact with people, how will you find a solution?"

"Those who come to our place to transport goods come from both the south and the north; we even have foreign customers. You can inquire with all of them. As for your hometown, as long as you find usable resources, what remains is just investment. If you lack money at the beginning, you can start small; the money you are earning now can be saved and later used as start-up capital for them. Right?"

If these words were said by a stranger, they might seem preachy. But coming from someone he admired, especially from someone who had already achieved success, they were particularly persuasive, and Yang Hongqi nodded repeatedly in agreement.

Yan Fei added more incentive, "If you really find a good way, and you don’t have enough money, you can borrow from me! If you don’t want to borrow, you can get an advance on your wages. There are plenty of ways, as long as you go for it, there’s nothing you can’t accomplish."

Yang Hongqi became even more excited.

Yan Fei wasn’t just talking nonsense; he felt that although Yang Hongqi’s area was dry, it wasn’t barren to the extent of no vegetation. If they could find drought-resistant cash crops, the initial investment for the experimentation phase wouldn’t be too big. Even if Yang Hongqi didn’t want to work on it here, it was still worth interacting with him. After all, lending him some startup funds wasn’t a big deal.

As the two of them were getting fired up in their discussion, Liu JinXue became discontent, "You can discuss all you want, but can you please not delay the work? At this rate, I’ll have no subjects to observe in a few more days..."

Yan Fei was taken aback, and he looked down to see that due to their engrossment in their conversation, several of Senior brother Liu’s ’observation subjects’ had either been pulled apart or tossed aside; some had even scurried out of the wooden box they were kept in...

Yang Hongqi gave an embarrassed smile and quickly put on a focused appearance.

Yan Fei then looked at the time and tossed the earthworms in his hands back into the wooden box, "Alright, I won’t cause any more trouble. I’m going to think over and write a few new papers."

Liu JinXue couldn’t wait for him to leave, waving his hand without looking up, "You go do your thing, Xiao Yang, come here, help me record. The two of us working together can speed things up..."

Unexpectedly, Yan Fei didn’t leave at all and found a spot in the lab. He grabbed some paper and pens, sat down, and began brainstorming.

Usually, Liu JinXue would have sneered at such ’brainstorming,’ but once he was in work mode, he really didn’t have time for that. Even Yang Hongqi, bossed around by Senior brother Liu, soon forgot his idol sitting next to him, only remembering that Boss Yan seemed to have left and re-entered a few times...

Just before dawn, Professor Qi, with hands clasped behind his back, strolled in, smiling, "Xiao Fei, you’ve also stayed up all night in the lab?"

Yan Fei looked up, "Yes! I was planning to help them, but they didn’t want it, so I just decided to write something."

Professor Qi walked over, smiling, "Can I see what you’ve written?"

Yan Fei, uncharacteristically shy, replied, "It’s nothing much, just some random thoughts, but take a look if you’d like..."

Professor Qi took what Yan Fei had written, glanced at it, and immediately chuckled, "Are you switching careers, planning to become a novelist?"

Yan Fei sheepishly replied, "Not really, just seeing both masters busy, and since I couldn’t assist, I jotted down whatever came to mind."

"That’s not bad, looks quite...science-fictional, right?" Professor Qi nodded as he looked over the documents. "You have a rich imagination, some of this speculation seems to have its basis, right?"

"Yes!" Yan Fei nodded. "It’s based on some knowledge about the dinosaur era that I understand, and then just my imagination. Much of it is speculative; it can only be treated as a story, not taken too seriously."

"That’s quite good," Professor Qi was very accommodating. "To reason further based on the facts isn’t bad at all. You’ve written quite a bit, several thousand words, haven’t you? You’re not slow."

Yan Fei chuckled heartily to himself, thinking: Not only is my writing fast, my flying speed is even faster!
