Chapter 1402: Chapter 681 We Are Different
The next morning, Yan Fei went to visit Professor Qi bright and early.
The air was still a bit cool in the early morning, but seeing a bunch of young people jogging or practicing boxing, as well as busily arranging the day’s work, the lively scene even made Professor Qi feel a burst of energy within himself.
Yan Fei joined Professor Qi in stretching his neck and kicking his legs, chatting while they exercised, "This place will look good in a few days. If you ever want to do research, just let others do the hands-on work, and you can supervise from the side. I have plenty of people here. If it weren’t for fear that you’d dislike it, I could easily find a few to take care of you."
Professor Qi chuckled, "I don’t need to be taken care of. I slept quite well last night. Perhaps the environment here really is good, and it’s quite remarkable that I’ve adapted so soon."
It really was quite remarkable. Having suddenly left the campus he had lived on for most of his life to come to a new, unfamiliar place, it was unexpected that he had rested so well on the first night. In his heart, Professor Qi was quite pleased.
Yan Fei was just as happy, "If you prefer peace and quiet, feel free to pick any house here. Even if there aren’t any available houses, just choose a spot and I’ll arrange for a few to be built without any trouble. If there’s anything you’re unaccustomed to or need, don’t hesitate to tell me. Now that the facility is up and running smoothly, I actually have quite a bit of free time. Just let me know directly."
"The small courtyard here is quite nice," said Professor Qi, who, being there, didn’t bother with formalities. "I don’t really need anything, but speaking of which, I noticed you have quite a few dogs here. Could you bring one over for me? You don’t have to cook for me anymore, I can cook for myself, and with a dog, I won’t worry about leftovers. I had a big black dog back when I was little; it was very good at guarding and protecting the home. I’ve always wanted to get another one, just never had the opportunity..."
"No problem, just let me know what kind of dog you want?" Yan Fei was surprised by Professor Qi’s request and hesitated before responding. "How about that young Tibetan Mastiff I have? It’s black too."
"That dog might be a bit too large when fully grown?" Professor Qi hesitated.
"No worries, no matter how big it gets, it will be obedient. You can rest assured," Yan Fei said with a smile. "Come on, let me show you the tiger and the black bear I’m raising. After seeing them, we can go back and cook. They’re very tame. With them around, even if the dog is big, it will stay calm being so far away."
Professor Qi agreed with a laugh, and the two proceeded to casually stroll toward the front passing by the bamboo forest.
After seeing the tiger and black bear behave in front of Yan Fei, Professor Qi couldn’t help but laugh with delight, "They really are tame. How do you feed them? If it weren’t for their intimidating size, I would have thought they were little attention-seeking dogs!"
It’s no wonder Professor Qi was amused; the tiger and black bear were displaying a complete lack of dignity.
The black bear even learned to wag its tail like a dog, but calling those stubs ’tails’ was being generous. They were practically nonexistent. So, it would vigorously shake its buttocks instead, lacking the agile waist of a dog. The sight was extraordinarily funny – endearing and amusing to anyone who saw it.
Meanwhile, the two golden eagles and the sable were notably less conspicuous – one too high-profile, soaring through the sky all day; the other preferring to stay hidden in its den or perched in the trees, quick to hide from strangers. Other than Yan Fei and a few familiar folks, they rarely made an appearance.
Though it wasn’t exactly the blossoming warmth of spring, the areas around the bamboo forest had been well-developed and were bursting with life. Surely, this environment was much better for Professor Qi than where he had been in Provincial City.
After Yan Fei prepared breakfast and ate with Professor Qi, the young Tibetan Mastiff had already been delivered. Now unafraid of people, it foolishly ran around the courtyard, showing no sign of being shy.
Yan Fei no longer needed to accompany Professor Qi to the laboratory. They hadn’t even finished breakfast when Liu JinXue and Yang Hongqi were sitting patiently like good students, waiting for Professor Qi to finish his meal.
Seeing that Professor Qi was done, one went to clear the dishes while the other was ready to fetch water for Professor Qi to wash his hands, prompting mixed feelings of laughter and tears from him.
Seeing this, Yan Fei was reassured. He turned to Liu JinXue and said, "Senior brother Liu, Guan Shi and the others were originally under your wing, so later on, just have them transferred back under you. They can’t handle the work inside the lab, but let them do the work outside they’re capable of. You take care of the arrangements, just make sure Teacher Qi doesn’t get worn out."
Liu JinXue nodded, "Don’t worry, I’ll make sure of it."
Satisfied with Senior brother Liu’s cooperation, Yan Fei contentedly went to school.
After finishing a morning’s worth of classes, he returned at noon, and Li Fang from the city came to report to him – originally, Heizi had wanted to go himself, but with Yan Fei at school, he essentially couldn’t leave.
Li Fang had delivered the car repair estimate in the morning, and Boss Zeng’s side had stated that a small scratch was going to cost twenty thousand. It was clear extortion. However, disbursing a generous amount, they resolved to settle the matter with two thousand yuan.
In reality, Li Fang hadn’t seen Boss Zeng personally, and the message was relayed by his underlings. Two thousand yuan was indeed produced, but Li Fang didn’t take it at all.
He told them right then, "This is what the boss told me to send. I’m just doing the legwork, and I don’t dare accept these two thousand yuan. If you want to pay, the back of the statement has a bank account number, just directly transfer the money there."
Li Fang didn’t directly repeat what was said on the other end, presumably none too pleasant, but he was quite certain of one thing – it seemed unlikely that they were willing to pay.
