Chapter 1168: Chapter 590 Erwa Advocates Education Pass_2
Erwa seemed to think of himself as an older brother indeed, and he somewhat didn’t want to let this guy down, so he nodded in agreement, "All right, I’ll give you some face, go back and tell your brother to report here once he’s well."
At that, the hopeful look on Zhang Erwa’s face instantly turned into cheers and leaps, "I knew my brother was easy to talk to, while others insisted it wouldn’t work. I’ll be off then, to let my brother know..."
Briskly taking a few steps, he then turned his head back, "Right, brother, haven’t you been to school at all?"
Yan Fei was taken aback, "Yes, what about it?"
"Nothing!" Zhang Erwa hadn’t finished speaking before his face turned red. "Aren’t you preparing to apply for university next year? If you have time, you should attend class more often at school, where the teachers can highlight the important topics, which is better than studying on your own."
After speaking awkwardly, probably feeling embarrassed as he wasn’t much of a student himself, he turned his head and ran off, "Bro, I’m heading back..."
In reality, the kid’s grades were decent, though not exceptionally brilliant enough to be admitted to the county schools. Still, he got into No.2 High School on his own merits, and his scores weren’t low either.
Yan Fei was just confused; he was being advised on studying by someone who always called him "bro" and still treated like a kid. Watching the kid disappearing in a dash, he felt a bit embarrassed. Looking around and seeing no one, he muttered to himself, "This kid, just started high school and already so bold, daring to lecture me!"
Back in the office, he took care of some work that needed his attention, which was simple, mostly things requiring his signature, and he finished quickly with a few strokes of the pen.
Just as he was done with this, Chen Yingjun came rushing over, and Yan Fei was quite surprised, "What’s up? Aren’t you supposed to be with your graduate student, why come looking for me?"
Chen Yingjun looked frustrated, "Don’t even mention it. There was a bit of trouble at my restaurant. Two idiots were fighting over jealousy, and now I need to go handle it."
Yan Fei casually asked, "Do you need my help?"
"No need, it’s just a small mess, both those fighting are acquaintances, I’ll just go back and deal with it."
"Then go back, got anything else?"
"I’m almost out the door, and you’re not even asking me to stay?" Chen Yingjun was pretty annoyed.
"Why should I keep you? You’ll have to come back here once you’re done anyway. I can hardly chase you away, and now you expect me to ask you to stay?" Yan Fei scoffed at him.
"Humph!" Chen Yingjun rolled his eyes and headed out. "Then I’m off, don’t miss me too much!"
"Go on, go on..." Yan Fei waved his hand. "Leave early and come back soon!"
"That’s more like it..." Chen Yingjun felt a bit more satisfied with that, though he still muttered, "Not like you have to tell me, I’d anyway go and come back early..."
"Hey, wait!" As he was leaving, Yan Fei suddenly remembered something. "Do you need Xiaosong and the others to go with you, maybe drive for you on the way?"
"No, no, I’ll just take some beef jerky and buns with salted vegetables, and a kettle of water, that’ll do." Chen Yingjun made himself quite at home here, heading straight for the kitchen as he spoke.
Yan Fei muttered, "Taking rations for the road, looks like he’s planning a prolonged battle!"
Thinking it over, he still wasn’t reassured. Now that people drive mainly on provincial roads with slower speeds, Chen Yingjun was in such a hurry that he clearly intended to drive straight home without stopping. It would be bad if something were to happen.
Catching up to him in the kitchen while he was packing, Yan Fei told him, "Stop packing, better book a flight, it’s safer. Later, someone can drop you at the airport, and you can leave your car here. After all, it’s not like you’re not coming back."
Chen Yingjun thought it over and agreed. Enjoying a drive with a graduate student was one thing, but any experienced driver knows that driving for a long period is torturous, so if he could avoid it, so much the better.
Yan Fei didn’t concern himself with the rest; he had to think about how to better coordinate the bull inspection that was coming up. This kind of preparation was better done sooner rather than later—being well-prepared is never a bad thing!
Picking up the phone to dial, he stopped halfway—he was going to call Lin Baoguo to ask if the village had received the news but then remembered Lin Baoguo was no longer the police chief of Sancha River.
He was considering calling Old Pan instead, but remembering Lin Baoguo’s transfer suddenly dampened his spirits, so he hung up the phone and went straight out, driving directly to Provincial City.
Arriving in town, it was just in time for lunch. Secretary Jiao, to his credit, took him along with Xiao Zhao to a simple restaurant outside for a meal.
During the meal, Secretary Jiao encouraged him, "Your attitude is just right, as long as everyone in our city is like you, this thing is bound to succeed. It benefits everyone and they are just here to inspect, not to find faults. What are you worried about? Moreover, this isn’t something that depends solely on someone’s extreme efforts, just prepare well on your end and don’t let this disrupt your regular work."
Secretary Jiao had heard from Xiao Zhao that he was in Provincial City last night and managed to arrive here by lunchtime, supposing he must have started the day early and driven back. He was quite pleased with such proactive behavior—not knowing that this fellow had lingered in bed till his wife nearly lost her temper, almost getting dragged out of bed by his ear.
This misunderstanding was something Yan Fei definitely wouldn’t clarify, just about to adopt a modest and vicarious attitude, when Secretary Jiao, having just provided reassurance, started critiquing him, "You drove back first thing in the morning, right? You’re home by this hour, if not for an early start, then you must have driven fast. Now that you’re a big boss, I don’t need to stress the importance of safety, right?"
