Chapter 1144: Chapter 582 Utter Misfortune and Accidental Success_3
Liu JinXue immediately became agitated, rushed forward, and grabbed Yan Fei, "What are you doing? Didn’t I say not to ask anymore? Why did you bring him here?"
Yan Fei felt a bit wronged, "He came on his own, I didn’t ask anyone."
Then he waved at the man, "Okay, I know everything now. There’s nothing to worry about, you can go back!"
With those words from Yan Fei, the man felt like he had been granted amnesty and immediately ran away.
Yan Fei then looked at Liu JinXue’s embarrassed expression, found it more and more amusing, and finally couldn’t help but burst out laughing.
Liu JinXue was very annoyed, "I brought the guest over, and you just sidelined him like that?"
Yan Fei really couldn’t hold back his laughter, and he laughed as he went inside, continued talking with Boss Luo. Senior Brother Liu was following close behind him, watching him closely for fear he would spill what had just happened— but the more he did, the more Yan Fei wanted to laugh, making Boss Luo completely confused but also vaguely guessing that whatever had happened to Boss Liu was probably not something to be proud of.
Speaking of which, Boss Luo’s business wasn’t only limited to Agaricus bisporus. In business, it was rare to deal with just one item; he dabbled in any food ingredient business that could make money.
Yan Fei had just mentioned his beef briefly, not really expecting Boss Luo to find a market for it. However, for Sancha River Township, Boss Luo might just be a timely rain!
Currently, the township was struggling with its greenhouse vegetables as it lacked a fixed sales channel. As one of the consultants for the greenhouse vegetable management office, Yan Fei could perhaps introduce Boss Luo there.
But when he slightly broached the topic, Boss Luo said with some difficulty, "Boss Yan, if it’s not high-profit ingredients like Agaricus bisporus, I’m afraid I won’t be able to help. You know, the transportation costs from here would add up quite a bit..."
No timely rain then, but Yan Fei wasn’t regretful; it was just a casual inquiry. It wasn’t as if good opportunities could always come his way. Smiling, he took over the conversation from Boss Luo so as not to embarrass him further, "That’s fine, I was just bringing it up. If it doesn’t work out, then let it be. It’s getting late, let’s get ready for dinner and then discuss other matters."
Yan Fei actually had quite a few guests, including the three professors, Professor Shu’s students, and people like Chen Yingjun who wouldn’t leave.
However, hosting a businessman like Boss Luo meant they wouldn’t all dine together. Chen Yingjun loved mingling in lively groups; the others, like the professors, wouldn’t join in.
The dinner conversation was lively, covering various topics. Just as Chen Yingjun cracked a joke, Boss Luo who was laughing heartily suddenly smelled something. He complimented, "This chili has a great aroma!"
Yan Fei sniffed and recognized the scent, smiling, "That must be my cousin. That guy loves to fuss around, doesn’t focus on his work, and thinks about eating all day. He even fries chili with peanuts and soybeans, which really enhances the flavor."
The site had two canteens, one large and one small. With guests around, they couldn’t always eat communal meals, and Professor Qi wasn’t in good health, so they used the smaller canteen.
Right now, everyone was eating, and the person busy in the kitchen was Lin Haihu, the cousin Yan Fei mentioned.
He had been moved from the construction site to the cattle farm, where there were more and more cows but less and less work. Even if others had no work, they always found things to occupy themselves. Only Lin Haihu was idle, and with no entertainment around, he assisted the chef, learned a few skills, and satisfied his taste buds—the chef being his grandfather. Despite not doing much assisting, he certainly enjoyed the food.
For communal meals, they had to consider everyone’s taste, which meant making bland food. Lin Haihu loved spicy food. Not satisfied with the chili oil prepared by the chef in the kitchen, he never skimped on effort and fried his own chili oil.
Typically, chili oil just contained chili, but thinking of taste, he also fried peanuts and soybeans and eventually ground them together into a powder to mix with the oil, creating a particularly aromatic chili oil.
Consequently, nobody touched the chef’s chili oil; they all went for his. Because it was delicious, even those who didn’t like spicy food enjoyed it with meals. He tried hiding it, but with so many people around, it was impossible to keep it secret, so he had to make some every few days.
Now, hearing Yan Fei’s explanation, Boss Luo said, "No, that’s not it. I’m talking about the authentic scent of the chili. People from our place love eating spicy food, and I can tell this flavor apart. What varieties do you usually grow here?"
Yan Fei was clueless, "We don’t have specific varieties. Our kitchen gets a broad range of chilies, all gifted by locals. Generally, it’s just the type we’ve always cultivated here, but now some are from seed companies. If you’re interested, Boss Luo, I can have someone pack some for you when you leave."
Although chilies aren’t high yield, a casual cultivation in somebody’s garden is usually more than enough for a year. In the countryside, people string up lots of red chilies to dry, enough to last a year. Any excess is given out to relatives and friends who haven’t grown their own that year.
Naturally, Boss Yan’s place wouldn’t be lacking in chilies, so his offer was generous; he could probably fill a big bag if needed.
Upon hearing this, Boss Luo immediately smiled and then took another sniff, asking, "Can I take a look in the kitchen?"
