Chapter 1132: Chapter 579: Second Level Warrior
Sancha River township, the construction site to the west was still bustling.
Professor Shu was getting younger as he lived, and his days became increasingly comfortable.
Originally, as the only elderly professor, although the workers respected him, they barely dared to speak to him. Everyone knew he was a prestigious professor from a major institution, and some villagers were barely literate. How could they dare to approach him and strike up a conversation?
Besides, everyone still had to work, and the quality of their work was linked to their daily meals. They didn’t have the time to spare.
But now things had changed. At the Ginkgo tree by the edge of the bamboo grove, three elderly men sat side by side on lounge chairs, chatting about whatever interested them or quietly enjoying the river breeze and sipping tea if they felt like remaining silent. Life was leisurely and joyful!
Heizi and others were still so busy they almost ran everywhere they went. Chen Yingjun continued playing his role as a protector of females, Boss Ma kept shouting at one person after another...
The only difference was that Boss Yan had mysteriously disappeared again.
There’s a saying that trouble comes from the mouth, and this is particularly true for young women; one wrong word can easily offend someone.
Just yesterday, Boss Yan had offended Xiang Rui when she asked him about villagers wanting to deposit money with him. Without a second thought, he responded, "Auntie, I’m not criticizing you, but look at Uncle Baoguo, how enlightened he is. You two are a couple, but why is there such a big gap between you? This is definitely illegal fundraising. Why bother coming to me with this? Just have Xiao Xing explain the legal aspects to you..."
He was merely speaking off the cuff, but these days Xiang Rui was also extremedly busy. It was hot, she was busy, and her temper was quick. She retorted, "Then I’ll go learn some law from Xiao Xing for a couple of days. You better find someone to take over my work for a few days!"
Of course, she was just speaking rhetorically; Xiang Rui would certainly not actually stop working. Besides, Xu Xiaoyan was there, and she immediately came over to scold him, "If you’re not busy then you better go study right now. Stop loafing around when there’s nothing to do."
Yan Fei knew he was in the wrong. After all, this aunt was not like his uncles. He was used to bickering with his uncles, but he couldn’t do that with his aunt. So, he actually listened to his wife and prepared to study.
As busy as he was, it would be a wonder if he could learn anything?
He hadn’t even opened the textbook when all sorts of major and minor issues had consumed the morning.
As Yan Fei looked at his textbook, he remembered that he needed to schedule time to work on getting extra points for the college entrance exam. It was better to handle it sooner rather than later, instead of rushing when everyone else was sitting for their exams and finding all the easy solutions had gone cold.
He also couldn’t stand staying at home anyway, what with one thing or another always demanding his attention. The work got done just fine when he was not there, so why exhaust himself needlessly?
So, Boss Yan started up his Mercedes and prepared to take his wife out.
Xiang Rui rolled her eyes, "We’re all incredibly busy, and it’s fine if you run around on your own, but why must you drag Yanfei along for everything?"
The women were indeed busy. The construction site was bustling as usual with people from several villages; men bringing in grass, feed, and cattle; slaughtering cattle every three days and selling the meat, bones, and skins; and dealing with all the paperwork at the dried beef factory.
As for the financial transactions involved in Yan Fei’s business, they were all handled by Xiang Rui, who could now be considered a professional accountant, along with Heizi’s wife, Xiao Gao, Ma Chao’s wife, Shao Pingping.
Even Lin Yumei and her daughter, Fang Xiaoqing, were consistently helping out. Although Lin Yumei had her own responsibilities managing the files for the distributed cattle, there were now cows allocated to more than one or two households, making the work far from easy. Fortunately, she had handed over the task of recording the cattle’s daily details to Zhang Hui’s two assistant veterinarians.
These two vets had actually come of age professionally quite some time ago. It wasn’t very complicated to manage several hundred cattle at the ranch since problems were rare. Primarily, they dealt with the cattle that were distributed, including around two thousand rapidly growing calves. Problems were inevitable—the small to large issues they had encountered had made them experienced hands.
In short, there were no idlers around the ranch, but while others could find temporary replacements for their tasks, nobody could substitute for Xiang Rui’s responsibilities.
You should know that they weren’t using paperless office yet—the ranch didn’t even have computers! The extent of the exertion was imaginable.
Therefore, Boss Yan had no choice but to hit the road himself.
Upon reaching the county town, he first visited Fifth Brother and Sister Hong and, of course, his own culinary teacher. Naturally, he received a warm welcome.
But he was very busy. Apart from bringing his own Medicinal Wine and offloading a mound of gifts from others he neither wanted nor could use, he took off. Of course, he didn’t realize that after he left, his teacher scolded Fifth Brother, "Among all the fair-weather friends you have, if even one of them could match Xiao Fei, I’d worry about you less!"
Fifth Brother instantly bristled, pointing at the gifts Yan Fei had left behind, "I need to make friends with a few more rich folks so I don’t have to work and listen to your lectures anymore. Just one visit from them and selling what they bring would make me rich!"
His father got so angry he put down his spoon and walked away, "What’s with you? Haven’t even been a dad for two years and you can’t stand to hear your old man speak? I’m talking about how to conduct yourself, not comparing who’s richer. Look at Xiao Fei, he drives over in his small car but still treats us just like before, never acting like an outsider. Do any of your friends do that?"
Fifth Brother thought about it and found himself at a loss for words.
Others who succeeded often felt a sense of superiority when revisiting old friends, or even simply ’forgot’ about these friends. Yan Fei, however, didn’t have this problem. When he was in town, he’d stop by, eat if he made it in time, and leave if he didn’t. He never treated them like outsiders—just casually popping in as if it were nothing at all.
