Chapter 1120: Chapter 575: The Inescapable Net of Heaven
The morning sun had just revealed half its face, and the docks by the sea had already come alive with activity.
The Fifth Young Master Guo yawned as he disembarked the boat, but didn’t forget to turn around and instruct, "Remember not to deal with that bar cod dogtooth grouper just yet. Let’s raise it a bit longer before deciding. Oh, and tidy up our fishing gear. Send it over to me later..."
The Third Young Master Guo was scarcely any better.
Saying they would return, last night when no one was around, the two embarked on their grand conquest of the sea once again—night fishing.
Although their catch was minimal, they still had a catch after all.
But for the two, it was already quite good, given their mediocre skills, barely hitting halfway to decent.
Guo Jingya, however, hadn’t joined in their madness. She was now energetically pulling Xu Xiaoyan along, "Sister Xiaoxing, our plane is at noon. Let’s go check out the flea market this morning!"
Xu Xiaoyan nodded, "Sure! Just don’t go too far, otherwise, it’s troublesome if we miss the plane."
Thus, the group split up, Yan Fei went shopping with the three girls, while the Third and Fifth Young Master Guo prepared to go home and face some criticism. It was said that the two were also planning to find Chen Shimei, as even if they couldn’t hold up their end of the bet, they needed to make that guy cough up some compensation for the brothers.
But that was none of Yan Fei’s concern now. His role had become thoroughly that of a bodyguard—with Jia Hao and another bodyguard trailing far behind, quite resentfully: with Boss Yan there, they had nothing to do.
The four had already eaten on the boat and didn’t need to have a meal, heading straight for the market—unlike the Third and Fifth Young Master Guo who had worked hard all night and were so exhausted, they even skipped breakfast.
To the girls, this kind of market was purely for fun. They didn’t plan to buy anything, just to enjoy the hustle and bustle.
That’s how it is in big cities, some people drink their sorrows away until dawn, while others are out working at this time. Of course, the most diligent are the vendors, who after operating at the night market until the crowd dispersed, barely slept before rushing to the morning market to earn some money for family expenses.
The market was a mishmash of everything, clothing, headgear, handicrafts, clocks, antiques, calligraphy and painting, glasses, toys, shoes, backpacks, utensils, stationery...
The items were all inexpensive, especially some garments which were dirt cheap, almost on par with rural Sancha River’s pricing. There were also some cheap knick-knacks which, though ornate and good-looking, might get discarded after only a few days if bought.
However, some old items were not that cheap, like an old camera at a second-hand stall that was priced higher than a new one.
Cameras were not expensive these days. Yan Fei had seen Jiao Bing and Yang Qian with their point-and-shoot cameras, affordable and very easy to use, no skill needed, just point at a person and take a photo.
These items, somewhat dated but not antiques, were surprisingly plentiful in such a market.
There were also stalls selling antiques, appearing brand new, yet many people inquired about their prices.
As Yan Fei walked around, an idea suddenly struck him. He borrowed a camera from Nana and began to seriously snap photos everywhere.
Xu Xiaoyan wondered, "Yan Xiaofei, what’s the use of taking these photos?"
"This camera is really not advanced, it still needs to be focused," mumbled Yan Fei, clumsily adjusting the focus. "When these photos are developed, I’ll take them back to show our folks. So they won’t think everything in big cities is superior. Look at Hong Kong now, even such a metropolis isn’t without its poor..."
Isn’t that stating the obvious!
The three girls, all unamused by his perversity, just watched him excitedly and couldn’t be bothered to comment.
The girls said they didn’t need to buy anything, but in such a market, truly not buying anything was utterly impossible, especially since all three girls were well-off.
Soon enough, Jia Hao and another bodyguard found themselves with tasks—carrying stuff.
Bags of random things accumulated, giving the two bodyguards a sense of presence at least.
Yan Fei, however, was focused on playing the photographer, busily snapping away until, at one point, he just stood there with his camera, staring intently in one direction.
After a few looks, he remembered, wasn’t he being silly? Why must he look through the lens?
Yan Fei took the camera away from his face and upon looking, he suddenly grabbed Xu Xiaoyan, who was busy haggling at a stall with Guo Jingya, "See that person over there, doesn’t he look like someone from our town?"
Xu Xiaoyan squinted and asked, "Which one?"
"The one in the white short-sleeve, the one with a tree painted on the front of his shirt, the one whose hair is combed so slick that even a fly would slip off..."
"Hmm, I see him!" Xu Xiaoyan nodded. "I don’t recognize him though! How do you know he’s from our town?"
"Hehe," Young Master Guo smirked, "I remember his whole family! They once helped me out, but today, unfortunately, I have to disappoint them..."
Yan Fei shoved the camera into Nana’s hands, "You three stay back. Jia Hao, come over and keep an eye on them. I have some business to attend to!"
With that, he pushed through the crowd, furiously heading over and grabbed the shirt of a stall owner displaying some handicrafts, "Li Xiaogang, you old timer, why didn’t you flee to a foreign country and instead chose to mingle in Hong Kong? Now you should understand what they mean by ’though the net of heaven has large meshes, yet it lets nothing through’?"
