Chapter 1074: Chapter 558 Ceremony Start of Construction_2

One can only say that this material wasn’t put to proper use. This guy, if he had joined the military, would have been perfectly suited. He trained in Kung Fu from a young age and had absolutely top-notch physical fitness, though he was just a bit too young still.

Yan Fei’s uncle had already decided, he would wait two more years until the child was of age, and then hurriedly see if he could pull some strings to send him to the military — actions speak louder than words. Even though Yan Fei’s uncle wasn’t well-educated, he had come to realize that counting on his own son to excel in school wasn’t reliable.

Yet, this young man didn’t see it as disgraceful; he’d secured an unofficial admission notice and was proud as a peacock. Nowadays, he’d often throw out an idiom or two, flaunting his supposed cultural prowess.

In reality, he was quite indifferent at heart; if he didn’t get into high school, then so be it. As long as he had a school to attend, he was fine. And if that didn’t work out, wasn’t he related to a big shot cousin? With this familial bond, he wasn’t worried about not having food or money in the future.

His lackluster attitude towards work had its reasons. Originally, he had sheepishly approached Yan Fei wanting to be a supervisor.

Unfortunately, his grandfather, who was also Yan Fei’s maternal grandfather, had discovered his intentions and immediately squashed them mercilessly — with his self-indulgent nature, letting him manage others would have been too much for Yan Fei, wouldn’t it? Last year, he had sworn earnestly to study hard, but once back in school, he had reverted to his old ways, ending the year taller in stature rather than smarter in mind, a real piece of work indeed.

Heizi finished clearing the "roads" and checking the cooling sheds, then picked up an old, crackling walkie-talkie and called out, "Brother Fei, everything here is about ready; any updates from your side?"

Yan Fei’s voice came through, "Ready is good. By the way, tell everyone to be alert. When we start the meeting and others clap, follow suit, and don’t talk out of turn, okay? Whoever doesn’t listen won’t be allowed to work here anymore!"

Boss Yan really missed the city leader who had visited last time, especially his secretary — he still had his phone number!

But things didn’t always go as he wished. Currently, Secretary Xiao Zhao was right beside him, speaking kindly, coaxing him to cooperate, fearing he might abruptly become upset. What could he do?

Xu Xiaoyan was also supervising nearby, holding a significant responsibility of solely overseeing Boss Yan.

Everyone knew about Boss Yan’s temper. Mayor Chen was also worried that this young man might just walk off the job in displeasure. He specifically instructed Director Lin and Accountant Xiang, who, in turn, briefed Xu Xiaoyan to be responsible for steadying Boss Yan and ensuring the ceremony proceeded smoothly.

It wasn’t just Xu Xiaoyan beside him, Comrade Yan Wenhai and Madam Lin Xiu Mei were also there.

With these three around, Yan Fei had no choice but to be patient.

He hung up the walkie-talkie, and looking over at Mayor Chen and his entourage eagerly waiting not far off, he muttered under his breath, "Tough isn’t it, consider the 25,000-mile Long March; tiring isn’t it, recall the old revolutionaries..."

Then biting his teeth, he continued to wait — although the project led by Professor Shu was in a dilapidated area and didn’t have high demands, daily progress for each job was still specified.

It wasn’t about being demanding, Professor Shu said it was about reasonable time management. For instance, if you dug soil and made brick prototypes today, how many days until they could be baked in a kiln, and whether the kiln would be ready for use just when needed, all this was planned out.

Brick prototypes not moved to the kiln just pile up outside, hindering other work, and delaying construction — someone had to find a place to store these prototypes, right? And when the time came, they’d still have to be carried into the kiln, adding an extra step in the process.

Furthermore, for areas that couldn’t be worked on before autumn, planting some crops was also planned, to harvest in the fall. Although Yan Fei didn’t care much about it, considering others had kindly and efficiently arranged everything, could he really say no?

It was all a matter of time!

Right after Yan Fei hung up, the phone rang again: "Boss Yan, I see a line of cars coming this way..."

This news had just been reported by someone from the village to the west. As soon as he received this information, Mayor Chen and his group were already aware. They promptly stood up and walked to the roadside, finding shade under trees to wait.

They still had to manage the crowd that had gathered to watch the excitement.

That was the problem with small towns, whenever there was an event, spectators were plentiful, everyone gathering as if watching a movie. Those who could come out, did. The sun was starting to blaze, and yet people didn’t mind the heat, standing unabashedly under the sun.

But it wouldn’t be accurate to say it wasn’t good either, at least everyone was very cooperative.

Because Heizi and the others had scattered among the crowd, and had explained everything to the people around them.

So, when the line of cars arrived, Mayor Chen led the welcome. As soon as he started his greeting, thunderous applause immediately erupted, and the atmosphere couldn’t have been more vibrant. The cameras in the cars behind kept sweeping over these enthusiastic spectators, over and over again.

Could anyone else achieve this effect? How many businesses in remote areas have to pay the nearby villagers ten bucks a day to come and clap, not to mention providing them with a meal!

When it came time for the speeches, everyone was very conscious too. Apart from the occasional child whispering, the only sound in the makeshift venue was the rustling of leaves in the breeze.

Who says our crowd lacks discipline? Look at how well-behaved they are.

The brief opening speech was interrupted several times by warm applause, leaving everyone, on stage and off, smiling broadly.

Next was the signing ceremony, where Boss Yan made his dazzling appearance—after all, he’s still quite a young man. Those who know his age didn’t care, and those who didn’t know, just didn’t know.

It was after the signing ceremony that everyone went to the groundbreaking ceremony. During the firecracker noise, Yan Fei’s grandpa grabbed Lin Haihu by the ear, "You little rascal, what are you clapping for randomly, trying to kill yourself, huh? Do you believe I can just say a word to Xiao Fei and mess up your high school altogether? Don’t think I don’t know what you’re scheming; you just want to mooch off your cousin in the future, don’t you? Believe me, as long as I’m breathing, I can make sure you won’t succeed."

Seeing how stern his grandpa was, Lin Haihu got scared and dejectedly protested, "I really didn’t mean to, there was a bug that flew at my face, and I just slapped it without thinking..."

Unexpectedly, because of that slap, an out-of-place round of applause occurred that was not scheduled. Fortunately, the atmosphere was lively enough on site, and everyone was quite satisfied, so this little mishap didn’t bother anyone much.

Lin Haihu’s dad was visibly upset nearby, "We’ll talk at home!"

Those four words were very powerful; Lin Haihu was genuinely scared this time.

His dad, who was also Yan Fei’s straightforward uncle, what kind of family education could he provide? Nothing but a beating.

Being martial artists, being neither too gentle nor too harsh was normal; a beating was guaranteed to leave him walking awkwardly for a few days.

This little episode went unnoticed by others, as everyone was focused on the groundbreaking ceremony.

After a somewhat protracted firecracker noise, the green grass was covered with a layer of red firecracker scraps, looking particularly vivid. Coupled with the joyous people around, it really felt like a festive celebration.

The camera next turned to film the surrounding crowd again, and then captured the "primordial landscape" around, followed by the official ceremony of the first shovel of dirt.

It was incredibly straightforward—one shovel of dirt, and that was it. After that, the ceremony concluded successfully amid hugely enthusiastic applause!

There was another brief speech, encouraging and motivating everyone to work hard together to build a beautiful home.

This time, the applause was flawless. With a round of experience, everyone acted like they knew the drill. They clapped when they needed to, and some even cheered, trying their best to ensure the visitors left satisfied.

Although the preparations took quite a while, in reality, the coming and going of the cars didn’t take much time at all.

Yan Fei was very laid back about the whole thing. The contract was signed, and the money was ready to go, so he handed it directly to Secretary Xiao Zhao, even joking with him in a light-hearted manner, "Look at you, finding even carrying money tiresome. You really need to work out more..."

Regardless, now they could officially, and legitimately, begin construction!
