Chapter 1052: Chapter 549 Three Fingers_2
Yan Fei now felt quite embarrassed: "My little issue, there’s no need to call such a big shot, right? I was originally planning to ask Senior Brother Wang Jiuming to help me find someone..."
"Ha-ha!" Professor Qi laughed. "This is good news, nothing to be embarrassed about. Earning money from outside and investing it in construction at your hometown is doing good for the locals. But fine, if you want to find your Senior Brother Wang, that works too. The person I’m speaking of knows him as well. Just tell him, say I said, to take you to Professor Shu, Shu’s uncle. That surname is very rare, so once you mention it, he’ll know exactly who I’m asking him to find."
After chatting with Professor Qi for a while, Yan Fei was directly shown out by his host: "Go on, go on! If you’ve got things to do, get to it, what’s the point of chatting with this old man... Go on with your business..."
Ah, this old man was quite nice in all aspects; it was just this one thing that wasn’t great: he was too particular. Even Heizi, who had no shame, would say that this professor made people feel utterly at ease in his presence...
After all, if someone always has your best interests in mind, who wouldn’t feel at ease in their company?
Wang Jiuming was one of those people who always seemed busy yet not busy.
No matter when you called him, he’d always seem to be on the go. But if you really needed something, once he’d hung up the phone and if nothing too urgent was at hand, he’d be there within half an hour in his... rickety car, "Xiao Fei, you’re impressive! Your junior’s doing much better than this senior brother of yours, look at what car this is. Compared to yours, I really should throw mine away!"
Isn’t there a saying, "to compare people leads to despair, to compare goods leads to discarding"?
Wang Jiuming normally cared for his car so attentively, treating it almost as if it were his own brother. But now, upon seeing Yan Fei’s new car, he suddenly felt his ’brother’ seemed second-rate...
Yan Fei chuckled heartily: "This car didn’t cost me anything; it was a gift. If you like it, I can drive your car back later and leave this one here for you to use for the summer if you want. I generally won’t need it at home anyway."
"No, no, no!" Wang Jiuming waved his hands repeatedly. "If I drive your car around town, I reckon it won’t take two days before some department comes knocking for a ’tea’ chat. My car is just fine, your car, for people like us, isn’t something just anyone dares to drive casually."
Seeing that Wang Jiuming wasn’t declining just to be polite, Yan Fei smiled and dropped the subject.
After all, he had known Wang Jiuming for more than a day or two and understood that though Wang might appear carefree, there was still a real difference between him and a boss like himself. At least there were many more rules and regulations he had to follow, along with some unsaid boundaries that people deliberately avoided crossing – one wrong step, and problems would arise.
After shooting the breeze for a bit, Wang Jiuming brought up the matter at hand: "I’ve already contacted him on the way, Professor Shu is actually home. Let’s head over now!"
Three people in two cars driving around Provincial City arrived at a place very familiar to Yan Fei, the main campus of Provincial University—where Xu Xiaoyan was, which could only be considered a branch.
After wandering through the campus for a while and parking the car, Yan Fei followed Senior Brother Wang Jiuming to a residential area shaded by green trees.
Provincial University was superior to other schools, with its key advantage being a long history. Just looking at the trees on campus, you knew many were centuries old. With their still majestic trunks and lush canopies, they served as the best testament to Provincial University’s grandeur.
Within this district stood several such trees, and just these few turned what was actually quite an ordinary compound into something completely different—a genuine cultural ambiance, unlike Sancha River’s high school.
Unlike the high school Yan Fei was attending, which if shown to outsiders, would also feel different. Its ancient buildings and old trees exuded an air replete with a long history and scholarly ambiance. But there was an aspect that was remarkably different—the rate of college entrance. Most students entering their Third Year of High School were already starting to plan for life after graduation on how to earn some money for marriage...
Professor Shu was a thin, white-haired old man with boundless energy.
The first time Yan Fei saw the elderly professor, under Senior Brother Wang’s lead, he left a very deep impression. In fact, they hadn’t yet reached the doorstep of Professor Shu’s house when they saw, from quite a distance, an old professor instructing with a small teaching baton made of a tree branch, pointing here and there at several sheets of paper pinned to a wooden board.
Correct, the board was hung on a centuries-old tree.
Around him, several young students, both male and female, listened intently—according to Senior Brother Wang, they were graduate students not returning home but interning there for the summer. There were probably also doctoral students, as a couple of them seemed older.
And from a distance, Yan Fei heard Professor Shu saying something that he later learned was one of the professor’s catchphrases: "If this were not the new era, such homework would earn you a spanking on the palm of your hands—"
Professor Shu’s voice was so loud that not only Yan Fei heard it, but Wang Jiuming and Heizi did too.
Wang Jiuming was okay, but Heizi couldn’t help but snicker quietly, finding the old professor quite amusing.
