Carlotta's Daily Report -
Chapter 56: Truly Inseparable
Chapter 56: Truly Inseparable
Because she was in Amelia’s dormitory, Carlotta no longer felt a sense of crisis and fell asleep early.
When she opened her eyes again, it was already the next morning. The bright sunlight intertwined with the lush green leaves, and the warm early summer breeze lifted the curtains, bringing a touch of warmth into the study.
Carlotta opened her eyes and looked at the unfamiliar surroundings, momentarily stunned. She instinctively sat up straight and then recalled the events of the previous day, remembering that she was currently in the study of Amelia’s dormitory.
Listening to the chirping of birds outside the window, Carlotta lay back down and silently summoned the information panel to take a look.
There was very little information today, only three items.
[ 1: Danica Schmidt has initiated an assassination attempt and went to look for Carlotta White, but found that Carlotta had left Caerwyn Academy with Amelia Fenwick. She did not dare to follow, knowing that Amelia, as a noble’s daughter, must have strong guards hidden in the shadows, and her following might be detected. She chose to wait outside Caerwyn Academy, looking for a suitable opportunity to strike.]
The first piece of information made Carlotta ponder.
The assassin had appeared as expected. If she hadn’t stuck with Amelia yesterday, she might have already been attacked. Even staying inside the academy might not have been safe.
She was only a fourth-level apprentice, while the other party was a seventh-level apprentice and specialized in assassination. If she had suddenly attacked during a moment of distraction, it could have caused serious harm. She was a very dangerous person.
As for now...
Carlotta felt that she didn’t need to take the risk of confronting her. She could safely stay by Amelia’s side and wait until her own strength improved before dealing with her... if there were no surprises.
[ 2: Achilles Carlisle, who had lost his daughter, was deeply grieved. He was extremely angry that the security bureau had not found any clues after two days and caused a scene at the security bureau office, scolding many officers, who could only watch in silence.]
Carlotta curled her lips, thinking only one thing, serves him right.
Soren was so arrogant, and it was no wonder she was like that, given her father’s influence. Like father, like daughter, wasn’t that reasonable?
"Just keep grieving," Carlotta muttered, looking at the next piece of information.
[ 3: The major newspapers in the capital, Kestholm, have received the empire’s permission to report on the border war. From now on, the major newspapers in the capital will not lack news.]
Carlotta pondered.
The sources of newspaper information were certainly not simple. They should have known that the war had already started. She had wondered why there was no news in the capital. It turned out that reporting such news required permission from above.
It seemed that the empire had deep control over the major newspapers. What the newspapers reported was what the empire wanted them to report.
After reading the information, Carlotta got up to go wash up. However, when she arrived outside the bathroom, she found that Amelia seemed to be inside, so she had to wait outside.
’Should I create a cleaning card for washing up?’ Carlotta thought to herself.
Among the cards she currently possessed, there was one cleaning card, but it was for sweeping and couldn’t be used for washing up.
Just like the oil-making card, which had many versions based on different types of oil, cleaning cards also had versions for sweeping, washing up, and so on.
She hadn’t made a washing-up version of the cleaning card before mainly because such cards were more troublesome to make. Cleaning was a relatively delicate task, and if the card wasn’t made carefully, it could cause a lot of discomfort when used for washing up, such as feeling like being twisted hard or having one’s face poked forcefully.
But such cards were really convenient. Carlotta felt that since she had become a fourth-level apprentice and her control over mana had become more proficient, perhaps trying to make a washing-up version of the cleaning card wasn’t a bad idea.
As she was thinking, Amelia finished washing up and came out of the bathroom.
Today, Amelia was still as beautiful as if she had been painted. Her freshly washed face was moist, her eyes bright, and her silver hair naturally cascaded, making her skin appear even fairer.
Seeing Carlotta, Amelia stepped aside and said, "Miss White, I will be going to pay respects to my mother later."
Carlotta was startled and then asked, "Can I come with you?"
"Of course," Amelia smiled and then headed back to her bedroom.
Carlotta entered the bathroom and began washing up somewhat absentmindedly.
Amelia no longer had a mother.
Carlotta had known this for a long time. When she obtained the book recording the knight skills of the elves, the system mentioned that there was a photo inside, a picture of Amelia and her deceased mother.
Later, Carlotta obtained all the information about Amelia, including her entire network of relationships, which even mentioned how Amelia’s mother, Diana Fenwick, had died.
Two years ago, Diana had taken Amelia out for a trip when they were attacked. To protect her daughter, Diana had died on the spot.
This incident had undoubtedly had a tremendous impact on Amelia, which was why she chose memory magic when she later ventured into the supernatural.
To bring the deceased back to life before one’s eyes, perhaps only memory magic could achieve that.
...
An hour later, Carlotta and Amelia left Caerwyn Academy together and boarded a carriage, leisurely heading towards the Hilder District.
The capital, Kestholm, had ten districts, and the Hilder District held extraordinary significance because the royal palace was located there, as were nearly all the noble mansions. Correspondingly, the cemeteries for the nobles were also in this district.
Agate Cemetery, a cemetery guarded in shifts by the Royal Knights, welcomed many elegantly dressed people today.
When the carriage stopped outside the cemetery, Amelia lifted the curtain and glanced outside, saying softly, "It seems my father and the others are already here."
With that, she stepped out of the carriage, her black dress and silver hair fluttering in the wind, giving her a solemn appearance.
Carlotta followed her out, feeling inexplicably nervous.
The Fenwick family was paying respects to the deceased. Was it really appropriate for her to join in at such a time? Maybe she should just stay outside?
Just as Carlotta was hesitating, Amelia turned back and seemed to understand something, smiling gently, "Miss White, please come with me. If my mother knew I had made a friend, she would be happy for me."
Carlotta still followed into the Agate Cemetery.
Inside the cemetery, the environment was cold and quiet.
Currently, only the Fenwick family was here, everyone dressed in dark clothes, with solemn expressions, silent and composed.
As Amelia arrived, many people came forward to greet her. As the only daughter of Viscount Fenwick, Amelia’s status in the Fenwick family was naturally significant. Relatives both near and far could not ignore her presence.
Carlotta followed behind Amelia, at most receiving a few glances. Since no one knew her, they didn’t casually greet her.
Soon, Carlotta arrived at the center of the crowd, where a tombstone stood.
Here, Carlotta saw Viscount Fenwick for the first time.
Leonard Fenwick, had silver-white long hair, wearing a black hat, kneeling on one knee in front of the tombstone, deeply gazing at the photo on the tombstone, seemingly reminiscing about past stories.
Even kneeling on one knee, his posture still looked upright, exuding an indescribable sense of pressure.
Seeming to sense something, Leonard turned around and looked over, his gaze falling on Amelia.
"Come over, say a few more words to your mother."
Leonard beckoned to Amelia.
Amelia immediately walked over.
At this moment, it wasn’t appropriate for Carlotta to go over, so she stood still in place.
There were quite a few people around, so Carlotta didn’t stand out in the crowd, which made her secretly relieved, feeling less pressured.
However, what she didn’t expect was that after Amelia arrived at the tombstone, Leonard stood up and walked towards her.
When this Viscount Fenwick came before her, Carlotta’s body involuntarily tensed up, feeling immense pressure.
"Don’t be nervous."
Leonard looked at Carlotta and smiled slightly, "I heard you have a good relationship with Amelia, so I’m a bit curious about you. After all, it’s hard for others to become Amelia’s friends."
As he spoke, a hint of emotion appeared in his eyes.
Amelia was originally a cheerful child, but since his wife passed away, his daughter had changed a lot. Though she still seemed amiable, there was a coldness in her bones, not actively establishing social relationships with anyone, like a bird that voluntarily locked itself in a cage, quiet, yet somewhat pitiful.
So Leonard was truly curious about Carlotta, who could get close to Amelia. Most importantly, he heard that this young girl was dating his daughter?
When he first heard this news, his body trembled repeatedly, unable to digest the information for a while.
Although the Wendell Empire is open about sexual orientation and advocates freedom, he himself is relatively traditional and found the news somewhat hard to accept.
But Amelia was originally a lonely bird, and someone rare could get close to her, making Leonard feel it wasn’t good to interfere, lest it hurt Amelia’s heart.
So until now, seeing Carlotta here, Leonard took the opportunity to ask a few questions.
"I heard you’re dating Amelia?"
Leonard directly asked this question.
This made Carlotta feel her scalp tingle.
Although Viscount Fenwick still smiled, Carlotta felt unnatural all over, sensing hidden needles in Leonard’s smile.
She quickly said, "That’s not the case, those are just rumors outside."
"Rumors? But Amelia brought you here. If your relationship were ordinary, she shouldn’t have brought you here, right?"
Leonard raised an eyebrow.
Carlotta said, "Miss Fenwick did this to protect me."
Leonard asked puzzled, "Protect you? What do you mean?"
Carlotta didn’t hide it and told him about being targeted by assassins.
This matter was known by Amelia’s guards and would eventually reach Leonard, so there was no need to hide it.
After listening to Carlotta’s explanation, Leonard pondered thoughtfully, then smiled and said, "So that’s how it is. Since Amelia has decided to help you, you don’t need to worry too much. Once she decides to do something, she will definitely do it perfectly."
After speaking, Leonard felt somewhat complicated inside.
He neither wanted his daughter to engage in non-traditional relationships, nor did he want her to remain in the shadows of the past, embracing a new tomorrow. So learning that his daughter and Carlotta were just a misunderstanding, his mood was a bit delicate.
"Anyway, if you can accompany Amelia more, please help me spend more time with her."
Leonard sighed.
He didn’t talk much with Carlotta and left. As the current head of the Fenwick family, he had many things to handle on his wife’s memorial day.
Watching Leonard leave, Carlotta’s mood was also a bit complicated. She didn’t understand Leonard’s thoughts, but after the viscount left, she felt much more relaxed.
Standing in front of this viscount, the pressure she felt was really too great.
Amelia spoke in front of the tombstone for a while, then came back, not leaving Carlotta neglected here.
"What did my father just say to you?"
Amelia asked curiously.
"Nothing much, the viscount heard some rumors, and I explained a bit."
Carlotta said sheepishly.
Amelia immediately understood, her face couldn’t help but blush, not expecting the rumors from the academy to reach her father’s ears.
"If he said something he shouldn’t have, I apologize on his behalf."
"No, no, the viscount is a very amiable person, and his attitude towards me was also very good."
"That’s good."
Amelia pursed her lips and whispered, "Let’s go for a meal first, then there are some more worship procedures."
The Wendell Empire’s procedures for worshipping the deceased were very different from the rules Carlotta knew in her previous life, extremely complicated.
By the time the worship was completed, it was already 3 PM, and only then did the members of the Fenwick family gradually leave the Agate Cemetery.
Amelia also took Carlotta back onto the carriage, heading towards Caerwyn Academy.
...
Outside Caerwyn Academy, in a hotel.
A young girl stood by the hotel window, just lifting her head to take in the view of Caerwyn Academy.
She had been watching Caerwyn Academy since early morning, saw Carlotta and Amelia come out, and leave together in a carriage. It wasn’t until after 3 PM that she saw the two return in the carriage.
"Truly inseparable, the rumors are indeed true. Carlotta White is dating the young lady of the Fenwick family."
