Chapter 87: Chapter 99: A Bottle of Safflower Oil (8)
Isabel Smith sat up on the bed, her whole body covered in cold sweat, gasping for air. But the lingering fear from the nightmare continued to spread within her, accompanying her blood flow, seeping into every inch of her body.
Isabel blinked for a long time before realizing she was in her own room. Her heart gradually settled down. She quickly grabbed the remote control from the pillowside, turned on the TV, and waited for a melodious song to emerge. Isabel finally sighed in relief, but there was still an underlying sense of heaviness. She threw off the quilt, got out of bed, and looked for water to drink.
As soon as her feet touched the ground, Isabel realized that her injured foot did not feel any pain.
Isabel frowned and looked down to see that her swollen toe, which had resembled a small bun, appeared to have reduced slightly in size.
Feeling doubtful, Isabel walked over to the refrigerator and took out a bottle of mineral water. She unscrewed the cap, took a couple of sips, and then suddenly realized that something was off about the room.
She remembered going to sleep with the big light on because she was too tired and lazy to look for the remote control.
But now, the warm-colored sleep lamp was illuminating the bedroom.
Isabel furrowed her brows, took another sip of water, and then noticed a faint smell in the air. She put down the mineral water bottle and inhaled deeply, identifying the familiar scent. She had smelled it in her dream that night -- it was the scent of Red Flower Oil.
Only then did Isabel fully comprehend that something was wrong. She put down the mineral water bottle, circled the room, and saw a bottle of Red Flower Oil on a shelf.
The Red Flower Oil had been opened and a small portion had been used.
Everything in the room, apart from the initial furnishings, had been personally prepared by her. She had never bought Red Flower Oil before.
Isabel finally realized that what she had experienced while sleeping -- someone warming and massaging her injured foot and applying Red Flower Oil -- was not a dream, but reality.
Someone had genuinely entered her room and taken care of her injured foot.
The only person with a key to the room besides her was Percy Stanton.
So...
Isabel paused, stunned for a moment. Was it him, the man who usually seemed cold and moody?
She had never known he had such a gentle and considerate side...
That was not the main point. The main point was, she had kept her foot injury hidden at the banquet and at home. How did he find out?
Isabel was always very smart. As she thought about this, she suddenly remembered that when she was at the banquet, unable to move because of the numb pain in her foot, he had appeared and held her waist just in time. He had carried her away and held her throughout the journey...
At the time, she had insisted on walking by herself but was threatened by him...
It seemed that Percy had known about her foot injury from the beginning. But at the banquet, he was surrounded by so many people; how had he noticed her?
Isabel held the bottle of Red Flower Oil, her eyes, expression, and emotions flickering...
An indescribable emotion stirred in her heart. It had been so many years, a whole six years, since she had last experienced being cared for by someone like this.
Previously, she had been injured or sick, but there were always people surrounding her. Her father held her in his arms, treasuring her like a darling...
