Chapter 130: Chapter 142: It’s easy to avoid open flirtation, but difficult to guard against hidden cheapness (3)

The entire room was so pitch black that it felt unnerving. She reached out her hand, fumbled around on the bed for a while but couldn’t find the remote control, so she pulled back the quilt, and groping in the darkness, she got off the bed.

Because the building was somewhat high, the outside neon lights couldn’t penetrate in, and there was also no moonlight. The darkness was quite deep. While Isabel Smith was groping in search of the remote control, she failed to notice and ended up tripping over a table leg. Unable to maintain her balance, she leaned onto the table, knocking items onto the floor, resulting in a sharp sound.

Isabel Smith was in so much pain that she almost couldn’t stand up. Grimacing in pain and cursing inwardly, she instinctively opened her mouth and cried out, "Father."

However, the only response she got was the deafening silence of the room. Isabel Smith looked up, suddenly realizing that her parents were dead. They were now separated from her by life and death, and they would never have a chance to see each other again for eternity.

This time, her parents didn’t go on a business trip or a long journey, they were really gone...

A wave of desolation surfaced in Isabel’s heart, causing her to forget the pain of the fall. She felt somewhat powerless and ended up sitting on the floor by the table.

Isabel didn’t know how long she had been squatting there when suddenly, the light in the bedroom came on. She looked up in surprise and saw Percy Stanton in his pajamas standing at the door.

Instinctively supporting herself on the ground, Isabel tried to stand up but Percy arrived at her side quicker. He reached out his hand, pulling her up by her arm.

The man’s hand was warm, and through her skin, that warmth seeped into the depths of her heart, strangely calming Isabel down.

"What happened?" Percy Stanton’s bedroom was just a wall away from Isabel’s. The soundproofing in this apartment wasn’t good, and as he was on the verge of falling asleep after taking a bath, a loud "bang" echoed from the armrest.

At first, he thought he had heard wrongly, and opened his eyes. Then came a period of unsettling silence.

So, he lay down again, but he couldn’t get back to sleep. He had an unsettling feeling and eventually decided to leave his bed. In just his pajamas, he entered the room where Isabel was staying.

Only then, when he opened the bedroom door, did he realize that something had indeed happened.

The teacups and teapot on the table had fallen to the floor, shattering into pieces that were scattered all around, while Isabel sat not far from the shards.

Percy looked at Isabel, who wasn’t responding to him. He held her arm, carefully examining her before confirming that she hadn’t been cut by the ceramic shards. Only then did he carry her and place her on the bed.

At this point, Isabel had regained her composure. She quickly extracted herself from the nightly sorrowful dreams, smiling at Percy, "Nothing much, I just went to bed a bit early tonight. I woke up in the middle of the night needing the restroom, and realized that the room was dark. As I groped my way, I ended up bumping into the table."

Isabel’s face didn’t look good, as pale as paper, and there was even a hint of moisture in the corner of her eyes.

Observant Percy noticed these unusual signs, but he furrowed his brows in silence and didn’t press further.

At that moment, Isabel didn’t really care whether Percy believed her or not. She forced a smile and, getting up from the bed, she made her way toward the bathroom.

Her steps were quick, quite disorganized.

Percy stood in place, watching Isabel’s retreating figure. His delicate brows furrowed again, and deep thought was reflected in his eyes.
