Chapter 104: Chapter 116: A One-of-a-Kind Gift (1)
What Isabel Smith had said was a knee-jerk lie, but Percy Stanton took it seriously, putting her in an awkward position. She found herself cornered and in the end, had to reluctantly nod, putting on a stoic face of agreement. She said, nervelessly, "Okay... fine."
A smile tugged at the corner of Percy’s lips as he told Isabel to wait for a moment. He headed into the kitchen to tell Auntie Hourly Worker to take care of Raymond Thompson when he woke up. He picked up his wallet and keys before he returned to Isabel, extending an elegant invite, "Miss Smith, let’s go."
...
Reaching the underground parking lot, Isabel recognized at a glance that Percy had changed his car. The new one seemed a bit nicer than the last one, nevertheless, it wasn’t something you’d consider luxurious.
Percy didn’t take out the car keys from his pocket until they were about to get in the car. He pressed the unlock button, walked Isabel to the passenger seat, graciously opened the car door for her, and only after she had seated did he gently close the door and proceed to the driver’s seat.
Even though it was late summer in Bellshire City, the afternoons could still get pretty hot. The inside of the car felt stuffy, so Percy turned on the air conditioner, set it to the lowest temperature, and then stepped on the gas. He drove out of the underground parking lot, onto the main road of Bellshire. Percy drove skillfully onto the highway.
Percy glanced at the car in the rearview mirror, expertly merged into the traffic, then turned to look at Isabel, asking, "Which mall do you want to go to?"
It had been many years since Isabel had shopped in the malls of Bellshire City, so caught off guard by Percy’s question, she could not recall the name of the mall she used to frequent. She hesitated for a moment before replying, "Anywhere is fine, as long as it’s nearby."
Percy fixed his gaze on the road ahead for a bit before suggesting, "Let’s go to Ten Mile Prosperity."
"Ten Mile Prosperity" was a street name that Isabel had heard while abroad. It was a business street that the eldest heir of the Shaw Family built single-handedly after graduating from university.
Over the past years, the business street had flourished, becoming incredibly famous. Many foreigners visiting Bellshire would specifically go to survey "Ten Mile Prosperity".
Since Isabel didn’t have a specific place in mind, she hummed in agreement to Percy’s proposal.
Without further conversation, Percy veered the car towards "Ten Mile Prosperity".
The car fell into an uncomfortable silence. To alleviate the awkwardness, Isabel turned her head, intending to close her eyes and take a nap, but accidentally caught sight of Percy with his sleeves rolled up revealing bite marks stained with dried blood, and turned pale. She twisted her head, opened her eyes, looked at Percy’s side profile and asked, "Does... does your arm hurt?"
Percy looked surprised, clearly not expecting Isabel to ask about his arm suddenly. He moved his gaze to the bite marks on his arm and paused for two seconds before looking back at Isabel, saying cryptically, "I have wounds that hurt far more than this."
They were the wounds on his heart, all given by her.
Isabel found Percy’s statement a bit cryptic, so she responded unthinkingly before she turned her head to the window and stayed silent.
