Chapter 618: Chapter 0620: Intelligence Has Been Lowered
Chu Feng and An Rongrong made their way back to the An Family. It seemed that only from the An Family could they find the help needed to rescue Zhuang Xinyan and Old Master Zhuang.
After returning home, An Rongrong immediately sought out her grandfather and brother to relay the events to them.
Upon hearing the news, both An Wenxing and Old Master An furrowed their brows deeply.
The alliance between the Zhuang Family and the An Family meant both glory and loss were shared equally. Not to mention their decades-long relationship, there was no way they could stand idly by while Old Master Zhuang was in distress.
"Grandfather, brother, please think of a way quickly to save Grandpa Zhuang," An Rongrong said anxiously.
An Wenxing said, "Rongrong, this is not a matter we can rush. We must plan carefully. We must rescue him, but first, we need to ascertain Old Master Zhuang’s whereabouts. Moreover, we need to identify who the enemy is."
Chu Feng said, "I can confirm who took action. It’s the Qi Family from Yanjing."
"The Qi Family? One of the five permanent council members of the World Clan Congress, why would they target the Zhuang Family? There shouldn’t be any major conflicts of interest between them," Old Master An said.
Chu Feng said, "This may have something to do with me. While I’m not clear on the specifics, it’s definitely related to the Holy Stele."
Old Master An said, "Even if they wish to monopolize the Holy Stele, what they’re doing now exceeds what they’re allowed to do. The Qi Family can’t cover the sky with one hand. The five permanent council families are there to check and balance each other. The Qi Family’s rule-breaking move could very well lead to sanctions. By then, they might not be able to walk away unscathed. Moreover, when the Jin Family had control over the Holy Stele, the Qi Family did not make a move."
Chu Feng said, "Grandfather, there are powerful supporters behind the Jin Family, forces the Qi Family doesn’t dare to provoke. But now, in my hands, the situation is entirely different. Moreover, their actions are clearly exploiting our vulnerabilities while we’re still unestablished. If we rescue them, we’ll definitely incur some losses. If we don’t, our plans for the Holy Stele will likely be stillborn since no one will cooperate with us. Besides, the Qi Family won’t make a move themselves—there’ll probably be someone doing their dirty work for them."
After a pause, Chu Feng spoke in a lower voice, "Grandfather, the core secrets of the Holy Stele have been cracked. This is technology that could change the entire world! If applied to military use, it could alter the global order, possibly leading to a dominating situation."
"Hiss!"
Even someone as seasoned as Old Master An couldn’t help but suck in a breath of cold air upon hearing Chu Feng’s words.
The expression on An Wenxing’s face was one of shock. He knew that the core of the Holy Stele had been found, but he had no idea that its true nature was so terrifying.
"If that’s the case, then we must save Old Man Zhuang at all costs. Only the Zhuang Family deserves our trust and won’t abandon us. Having them as the vendors is what we feel most secure about," Old Master An said.
Chu Feng nodded and said, "Yes. Only with the Zhuang Family can we truly be at ease."
An Wenxing said, "Now that the enemy is confirmed, what we need to determine is their location. Where do you think they could be holding them?"
Chu Feng said, "Since so much time has passed, they could be anywhere. That, we cannot confirm."
Pausing for a moment, Chu Feng continued, "Moreover, I think that the Qi Family has not taken action until now and even let Zhuang Xinyan meet with us, their goal is probably not just the agency rights or channels in the hands of the Zhuang Family."
"Then what else could it be?" An Rongrong asked.
Chu Feng said, "It’s us."
Seeing the puzzled faces of An Rongrong and the others, Chu Feng explained, "Before coming here, I met with Jin Yu. At the time, I didn’t think much of it, but now, it seems that Jin Yu was acting. He might have been swayed by the promises made by the Qi Family, or at least partially so. His show of loyalty to me served two purposes: first, to lure me in. If they could capture me, they would do so outright. Second, he likely knew about the Zhuang Family’s problems already. If the Zhuang Family really falls, then he becomes the sole agent, and at that point, the things he can do become very, very vast.
He could even potentially restrain us. As for Qi Zhi, he’s nothing but a pawn, a disposable one at that for the Qi Family to make a move on me. With Jin Yu as their inside man and the Qi Family’s external cooperation, it’s probably only a matter of time before we are swallowed whole."
After a pause, Chu Feng added, "Playing games with those of low intelligence indeed drags one’s own intelligence down. I almost got fooled by Jin Yu’s impressive acting."
After hearing Chu Feng’s account, an angry An Rongrong said, "Jin Yu is truly despicable, unchangeable in his wicked ways. We absolutely cannot cooperate with him."
Chu Feng shook his head and said, "We know this, but outsiders don’t. Outsiders only believe what they see, and they’ve seen Jin Yu’s sincerity towards me. Moreover, I think that by now, everyone who should be in the know is aware. I fell for Jin Yu’s scheme but fortunately, I haven’t lost anything. Jin Yu can still be made use of."
An Wenxing nodded in agreement and said, "Indeed, I had already been informed of this before you came. At the time, I found it strange, but now it all makes sense. It seems we underestimated Jin Yu."
Chu Feng said, "Hatred can cause one to lose rationality but can also make one sharper. Clearly, Jin Yu falls into the latter category. His hatred has made him more astute. Nevertheless, such a person, if handled properly, can definitely be a vanguard. But he needs to be reined in regularly, lest he forgets his place."
For Chu Feng, there was no loss incurred, but being calculated against in such a manner was nonetheless irritating.
"I’ve just remembered, Grandpa Zhuang is still at the Zhuang residence. He never left," An Rongrong suddenly blurted out after recalling something.
An Wenxing asked, "How do you know that?"
An Rongrong replied, "Sister Xinyan told me. At the time, she used sign language to tell me there was someone at Grandpa’s place and asked me to pretend to be angry. I didn’t understand why Sister Xinyan insisted it was Grandpa’s house. Looking back now, she was likely hinting to me that Grandpa Zhuang was still at home."
"Now that we have determined both the location and the enemy, we can go rescue Grandpa Zhuang and Sister Xinyan, right? If we wait any longer, they might be in danger or Grandpa Zhuang could be moved!"
