Chapter 60: Chapter 0060: One of the Tasks

After hearing Little Black’s words, Brother Chu spoke up, "Brother Tang, who exactly have you offended? These people clearly came to take a life."

Fatty Tang gritted his teeth and said, "If I knew who was after me, I would’ve killed them in East River already. I only received word of this before coming."

Indeed, if Fatty Tang knew who it was, there wouldn’t be any need for such caution.

After hearing Fatty Tang’s words, Chu Feng said, "It looks like this journey might not be peaceful."

Fatty Tang clenched his teeth with a ’click click’ sound, and said, "I wish I knew who it was, so I could crush them into dust."

This time was truly dangerous. If it weren’t for Chu Feng’s company, Little Black, Xiao Bai, and he surely would have been doomed here.

Twenty minutes later, a motorcade arrived. Seeing the leader of the group, Fatty Tang exhaled in relief and said, "Everyone, relax. These are our people coming to pick us up."

The convoy stopped in front of Fatty Tang’s car, and a man in his thirties, dressed in a suit, got out of the foremost SUV. Looking at the chaos on the ground, he joked, "I say, Fatty, are you here to gamble on stones, or to shoot a movie? It looks like a cop thriller."

Fatty Tang spat and said, "I nearly died here, and you’re still in the mood for jokes. Help me find out who ambushed me."

"Sure thing!" The man ordered someone behind him, and immediately someone entered the forest to investigate the identities of these people.

"Brother Chu, this is Young Master Ma, an old friend of mine. His father is one of the biggest tycoons around Yunxi. At this year’s Yunxi Stone Gambling Event, his father alone will take up thirty percent of the raw materials. When the time comes, don’t be shy. Just go pick at his father’s place until you cry," Fatty Tang introduced Chu Feng.

Hearing Fatty Tang’s words, Young Master Ma laughed heartily and said, "Fatty, if you manage to pick them all, I’ll acknowledge your capability."

After finishing his words, Young Master Ma looked at Chu Feng with no trace of contempt and said, "Brother Chu, Fatty speaks so highly of you, you must have extraordinary skills in gambling on stones. I, Ma Hong, respect skilled people the most, so Brother Chu, don’t be a stranger; ask for anything you need."

Ma Hong’s character seemed much more straightforward than Fatty Tang’s.

In a polite manner, Chu Feng said, "I don’t have any particular requests, just don’t mind if I end up choosing too many materials."

Ma Hong was first startled, then burst into laughter, "Great! You’ve got personality. Brother Chu, feel free to pick. We open our doors to do business. I actually hope you pick some good materials; that would really help my family’s business."

If the Ma Family’s business was worried about anything, it wasn’t about someone picking out good materials — it was that no good materials would be found. Without quality materials, everyone would think the Ma Family had nothing good, and who would buy their raw materials then?

"Sir, they are some mercenaries. We couldn’t figure out their identities, but we’ve brought the survivors here, and we might get some clues after they wake up," the person who went to gather information reported back to Ma Hong.

Ma Hong nodded, looked at his subordinate who seemed hesitant to speak, and said, "Whatever it is, just say it. We’re all family here; no need to hold back."

Upon hearing Ma Hong’s words, his subordinate nodded and reported, "Sir, the twenty-six people in the forest were all taken down by one person, and without using a gun. The person who did it definitely is a master..."

Ma Hong gasped in astonishmet. To be able to knock down twenty-six fully-armed mercenaries bare-handed, was indeed a terrifying skill.

As for why his subordinate told him this, it was simple—it was his duty, reminding Ma Hong to be extra careful.

"Fatty, you brought a master this time, introduce me quickly!" Ma Hong, just as he had described himself, held great respect for masters—whether in martial arts or stone gambling.

After speaking, Ma Hong’s eyes kept darting between Xiao Bai and Little Black, guessing which of them might be the master.

Seeing Ma Hong’s eager look, Fatty Tang felt rather proud and said, "Stop guessing. This martial arts master sent from heaven is none other than Brother Chu."

"What!"

Not only Ma Hong was stunned by Fatty Tang’s claim, but his subordinates were also shocked.

Chu Feng was clearly just a student, right? Not someone who looked like a martial arts master, and certainly not someone who could take down more than twenty mercenaries alone.

"Fatty, that joke isn’t funny," Ma Hong said seriously.

Fatty Tang responded, "Do I look like I’m joking? If it weren’t for Brother Chu, this master sent from heaven, my over two hundred pounds would already be lying on your turf."

Seeing Fatty Tang’s serious demeanor, Ma Hong looked at Chu Feng with a new sense of wariness.

Feeling a bit embarrassed by Ma Hong’s stare, Chu Feng scratched his head and said, "Actually, being stared at by a big guy like this makes me quite nervous."

At Chu Feng’s words, Ma Hong was initially stunned but quickly burst out laughing, "Brother Chu! I really didn’t recognize Mount Tai. I would have never guessed that not only are you a stone gambling expert, but you’re also a martial arts master. I, Ma Hong, consider you my friend from now on; when we get back, we’ll become sworn brothers."

Fatty Tang curled his lips and said, "Ma Hong, cut the crap. Brother Chu is my benefactor and my brother. Don’t try to steal him from me. Plus, Brother Chu still has to go back to school; he can’t stay here in the backwoods with you."

Ma Hong said, "I only mentioned becoming sworn brothers, who said we were keeping Brother Chu here?"

Fatty Tang said, "That won’t do either. Brother Chu, don’t become sworn brothers with this Ma Hong. This guy isn’t good news. Being his brother is too risky."

Upon hearing this, Ma Hong became agitated and said, "I’m telling you, you fatso, did I ever let you suffer when you came to Yunxi? Didn’t I help you out when you were in trouble?"

Chu Feng could tell that Ma Hong was a sincere person, but as for becoming sworn brothers, Chu Feng hadn’t really considered it.

"Why don’t we hit the road first and treat Little Black’s wounds?" Chu Feng suggested proactively.

Little Black gave Chu Feng a grateful look upon hearing his words.

Being merely bodyguards, he and Xiao Bai naturally couldn’t speak up when their boss was talking.

"Alright! We’ll talk more once we’re back."

The group set off, and along the way, a specialist helped treat Little Black’s wounds.

The person treating the wounds was astonished to see Little Black’s wound clot by itself.

The convoy soon reached Ma Hong’s territory, but fortunately, the journey was peaceful.

Although Yunxi was a county town, its area was actually much larger than most inland county towns.

The convoy soon arrived at Ma Hong’s residence, which stood out starkly against the surrounding area, looking very much like the Imperial Palace, which surprised Chu Feng.

A mansion like this in such a border town truly deserved the term ’local tycoon.’

After the convoy entered the residence, Ma Hong instructed his men to interrogate the mercenaries, while he arranged for Chu Feng and his group to dine first.

"This is my newly hired chef from France. Let’s see how you all like his cooking," Ma Hong invited everyone.

Chu Feng, seeing the table full of Western food and the French chef continuously serving them, understood again what it meant that ’money makes the world go round.’ In such a backwater border town, no French chef would come over without an irresistibly high price."

Having Western food for the first time, Chu Feng tasted the somewhat raw steak and immediately gave up, opting instead for bamboo rice.

Xiao Bai and Little Black went straight for the bamboo rice too.

"Brother Chu, try this snail, it’s excellent for boosting vigor," Ma Hong said as he put a sticky, wriggling snail directly onto Chu Feng’s plate.

Chu Feng felt a wave of disgust and said, "No matter how invigorating foreign stuff is, it can’t match tiger or bull for potency. I’ll pass."

Upon hearing this, Ma Hong’s eyes lit up, and he exclaimed, "I didn’t know Brother Chu was into that. I’ll immediately have someone grill ten skewers of sheep parts for me."

Soon, the grilled items were served. Chu Feng looked at the steaming sheep parts, unsure of their taste. But after taking a bite, he found them surprisingly tastier than kebabs.

The sheep testicles had to be eaten hot, otherwise, they would start to smell funky.

And indeed, those parts were real good for boosting vigor; eating them made a certain body part of his noticeably react.

It was rather awkward for Chu Feng, so he quickly focused on suppressing it with his cultivation, managing to save himself from embarrassment.

Watching Chu Feng’s initially flushed face quickly regain its normal color, Ma Hong gave a thumbs up, saying, "Young ones have strong control, unlike that fatso who would have been off to find a quick fix after eating so much."

"Master, we’ve got the information," one of Ma Hong’s men came in just as they were all enjoying their meal heartily.

"Speak!" Ma Hong put down his knife and fork and said.

"Master, they were hired by the Bai Family. Ambushing President Tang was just one of their assigned tasks. Their main task was to target everyone passing through our Ma Family’s territory, making them feel unprotected by us to divert them towards the Bai Family’s route," Ma Hong’s man reported.

"Damn it! The Bai Family is really asking for death, daring to play such games!" Ma Hong’s eyes turned frosty as he cursed furiously.
