Chapter 515: Chapter 0517: The Yin Soul Lingers

Smuggling, although illegal, didn’t exactly invoke a sense of outright resistance from deep within Chu Feng.

Snakes have their snake paths, mice have their mouse paths.

In a world where there is white, there must be black. Moreover, for Chu Feng, it was a completely novel experience.

Typically, smuggling takes place at night, but Ma Hong, being a local snakehead, didn’t need to bother with such troubles. Besides, the border region between Huaxia and Myanmar was extremely complex in terrain, filled with various dense forests and mountain peaks, many of which had concealed passages that were barely visible during the daytime, rendering clandestine smuggling rather pointless.

Ma Hong chose a passage through a dense forest, and together with Chu Feng’s group of three, there were twenty-three people in total. These twenty-three individuals rode in five vehicles until they reached a point where vehicles could go no further, and only then did they abandon their cars and proceed on foot.

The twenty men were carefully selected by Fatty Tang and Ma Hong. If not one against ten, they were nearly there.

So, crossing a forest was hardly a difficult task for them.

However, this proved somewhat torturous for Fatty Tang, who after all, had lived a life of luxury inland for too long. Barely ten minutes into their journey, Fatty Tang was already incessantly complaining.

"Fatty, think about your gemstones, think about your source of goods," Ma Hong urged Fatty Tang.

Fatty Tang gritted his teeth and then trudged forward with all his might.

"For my gemstones, for my source of goods. For my gemstones, for my resources!..."

But after two hours of walking, no matter how Ma Hong tried to motivate him, it was no use. Fatty Tang just sat on the ground and refused to move.

With no other choice, they could only rest on the spot for a while. Chu Feng took a sip of water and said with a laugh, "Fatty, if I miss class because of you, how do you plan to compensate me?"

Fatty Tang said, "Brother Chu, are you ridiculing me? Look at your worth now. With a simple wave of your hand, you’re looking at billions. How can I compare with that? Even the bit that trickles out from under your fingers is enough for me to live on for a lifetime."

Ma Hong chuckled maliciously, "The bit that brother Chu ’shoots out’ would be enough for you to live on for a lifetime."

Chu Feng said, "Brother Tang, you already have enough wealth to live a comfortable life for the rest of your days. Why are you still working so hard?"

Fatty Tang wiped away sweat and responded, "Brother, then tell me, with your net worth in the hundreds of billions, why are you here suffering with me?"

Chu Feng paused for a moment, then burst into laughter, "Brother Tang, I didn’t expect you to utter such philosophical words. Honestly, I can’t refute that."

Fatty Tang chuckled, "I’m a hidden genius."

Ma Hong said displeasedly, "I think you’re just a glutton. Have you rested enough? It’s time to move on."

"Wait!"

Chu Feng suddenly held back Ma Hong and Fatty Tang, then gestured to the bodyguards with a warning sign.

Most of these bodyguards had military experience, so they were quite familiar with Chu Feng’s signals.

The twenty-three men dispersed and then all concealed themselves within the dense forest.

Five minutes later, a ragtag group carrying shabby weapons, walked over from a distance.

This group wasn’t speaking Huaxia, so Chu Feng didn’t understand, but Ma Hong did.

"These people are here for us, and they’ve set up a minefield ahead, just waiting for us to walk into it. They’re coming over to check because we haven’t passed by for so long, to see if we’ve changed our route," Ma Hong said gravely.

"Damn, our movements have been exposed!" Fatty Tang cursed under his breath.

The expression on Ma Hong’s face was just as grim. He had chosen this route. Fatty Tang didn’t even know, but now their target had been exposed, which clearly meant it was someone from their own side who had leaked their movements.

"Do we fight or not? With just two lousy guns, a salvo from us would be more than enough," Fatty Tang said.

"Don’t touch them, we have no understanding of the situation up ahead. If we attract more people, our losses could be substantial," Chu Feng whispered to Ma Hong and Fatty Tang.

After speaking, Chu Feng made a hand gesture to the twenty men not to act rashly.

The quality of this bunch was clearly not up to par, as they simply loitered around for a while and then left. They didn’t even notice the obvious mineral water bottles and trash on the ground.

It was only after this group had left that Chu Feng and his men emerged from the forest.

"This is all due to my lack of planning," Ma Hong said, ashamed.

Chu Feng replied, "Brother Ma, now is not the time to assign blame. After all, you have so many men under you, and now that we know the enemy’s arrangements, we just need to counter them as they come."

Fatty Tang also comforted Ma Hong, saying, "That’s right, Old Ma, we go way back. I trust you completely. But both of you need to thank me. If it weren’t for my complaining of being tired, you would have been blown up by landmines by now."

Ma Hong asked, "Brother Chu, what do we do now? This is the only road, and there is no way to detour, is there?"

Chu Feng pondered for a moment, then said, "First, send someone to scout ahead. If there aren’t many of them, we’ll take them out and then capture someone to bring back."

"My men understand their language. Let my guys go," Ma Hong suggested.

Chu Feng nodded and said, "I appreciate it, Brother Ma."

After Ma Hong gave a few instructions to his men, ten individuals in camouflage outfits vanished into the forest.

Fifteen minutes later, several sporadic gunshots were heard from ahead, and then all was quiet.

Another fifteen minutes passed, and Ma Hong’s subordinates returned, one of them wounded, but the others unharmed. Of course, they also brought back a militiaman dressed as raggedly as a beggar.

Chu Feng wasn’t worried at all about the interrogation. A small fry like this couldn’t withstand much, and quickly confessed everything.

"Brother Ma, what’s the situation?" Chu Feng and Fatty Tang asked Ma Hong upon his return.

Ma Hong furrowed his brows and said, "The situation is a bit tricky. These are the local anti-government rebels from Mogang. They’re here for that gemstone vein too, and the worst thing is, they’re in cahoots with the remnants of the Bai Family and that Kang Xuesong who we let escape last time."

"That Kang Xuesong again, his evil spirit still lingers!" Fatty Tang said through gritted teeth.

Last time, Kang Xuesong evaded capture, and Ma Hong had almost turned over all of Yunxi without finding him. Unexpectedly, he had left Yunxi and entered Myanmar, where he got mixed up with these anti-government forces.

"What’s the situation like up ahead?" Chu Feng inquired.

Shaking his head, Ma Hong replied, "The situation ahead is even worse. There are quite a few armed men with no shortage of weapons. There’s an ambush ahead too, but he doesn’t know about it."
