Chapter 477: Chapter 0479: A Golden Key Doesn’t Always Open a Treasure Vault
The call ended, and Jin Yu’s father’s gaze grew even deeper.
"Father, is this matter related to Chu Feng?" Jin Yu was nearby and naturally could catch bits and pieces of the conversation.
Jin Yu’s father said, "This matter has nothing to do with you; I will handle it myself."
Jin Yu, with his hands on the table, said, "Father, I am also a member of the Jin family; I am your son. I know the situation is dangerous, but I am willing to share the burden with you."
Jin Yu’s father looked up at him kindly and said, "It’s precisely because you are my son that I need you to live well. You should stay away from Chu Feng’s affairs; I will handle them personally."
Jin Yu looked at his father, moved, but more than that, he felt heartache.
No child could bear the taste of being looked down upon by his own father. No child could endure the feeling of others being better than oneself in their father’s eyes.
Jin Yu’s father seemed to see through Jin Yu’s heart and said, "Are you unwilling to accept this? But the reality is just so. If you want everyone to regard you as equal to him, then live well and do what you need to do. Only when you complete your duties will people start paying attention to your existence."
"But why does Chu Feng get your attention?" Jin Yu finally burst out.
Jin Yu’s father said, "Whether you admit it or not, there are gaps between people. You were born into the Jin family, with the ’golden key’ in your mouth, and countless people will see you this way. They will ask why you deserve what you have. But this cannot be changed because you were born into the Jin family. It’s the same with Chu Feng; he doesn’t need a reason; it’s just that he has such ability. However, I want you to remember one thing, no matter what you rely on, what you rely on are your innate advantages, and the future will depend on your own efforts. A golden key does not necessarily open a treasure vault; it might open a rat’s nest."
Jin Yu understood, nodding heavily, said, "Father, I understand, I won’t disappoint you."
"You may leave now; I am waiting for someone," Jin Yu’s father said as he waved his hand.
...
For Chu Feng, school days always passed quickly, and a week went by in no time.
The only thing that troubled Chu Feng was that both Xie Mengying and Xue Yafang treated him like a stranger.
Chu Feng had wanted to explain a few things, but later he felt it was better to just let things take their natural course. Explaining too much might lead to even more misunderstandings and hurt.
"Monitor, monitor, wait up," Mo Yanfang ran up breathlessly and blocked Chu Feng’s path, panting heavily.
"What is it?" Chu Feng looked at Mo Yanfang and asked.
Mo Yanfang said, "Monitor, would you say we are friends?"
Chu Feng, looking at the sly expression on Mo Yanfang’s face, said, "We could be, or maybe not."
Upon hearing Chu Feng’s reply, Mo Yanfang raised her fist and punched Chu Feng, saying, "Monitor, you’re so annoying, what do you mean we could be or maybe not? Haven’t I supported your work? Haven’t I been nice to you?"
Chu Feng said, "You should first tell me what you want. If it’s something simple, we can be friends. If it’s complicated, like pretending to be a boyfriend or something, then we can not be friends."
Mo Yanfang circled Chu Feng twice, making him somewhat uneasy.
"What are you looking at?" Chu Feng asked warily.
Mo Yanfang said, "Class president, you’re amazing, almost like a Demi Immortal. You can even guess why I’m looking for you."
Chu Feng, upon hearing Mo Yanfang’s words, turned around and said, "Then we probably shouldn’t be friends."
Mo Yanfang immediately grabbed Chu Feng’s arm, her voice coquettish as she said, "Class president, you can’t just leave me hanging. Besides, I heard from Yafang that you’ve pretended to be her boyfriend once before. One more time won’t hurt, right?"
Chu Feng said, "When did I ever pretend to be Xue Yafang’s boyfriend?"
Mo Yanfang whispered, "Don’t worry, class president, I won’t tell anyone or give others the chance to ask you to pretend to be their boyfriend."
"What exactly are you not going to tell others about?" The more Mo Yanfang spoke, the more confused Chu Feng became.
Mo Yanfang said, "Class president, I already know about you and Yafang at the cafe during the holiday. Don’t worry; I won’t go spreading it around. I can keep a secret."
Hearing Mo Yanfang’s words, Chu Feng realized what was happening. It seemed that Xue Yafang, overwhelmed by Mo Yanfang’s persistence and not wanting to reveal her own identity, just made up a story to mollify Mo Yanfang.
Seeing Chu Feng’s realization, Mo Yanfang said, "You remember now, don’t you? How about a deal? Pretending once or twice doesn’t make a difference. Might as well do it one more time, it’s no loss for you."
Chu Feng said, "I don’t mind a little disadvantage, like you taking a bit of advantage of me."
"Hey, class president, could you be any more shameless? How could you even say I took advantage of you?" Mo Yanfang retorted.
Chu Feng said, "If you want to hear it, I can say it again."
Mo Yanfang seemed to suddenly understand something, grabbed Chu Feng, and said, "Say whatever you want, I won’t fall for it and let you go."
Seeing his plan had been exposed, Chu Feng could only sigh and said, "It’s not about our whole school, just our class. Why pick me out of all the guys?"
Mo Yanfang said, "All those other boys are almost all taken."
Hearing this, Chu Feng suddenly became displeased and said, "So am I, do I look like some undesirable leftover to you?"
Mo Yanfang smiled sweetly and said, "Actually, it’s mainly because you are tall and imposing, handsome, and also upright, warm, and helpful, right?"
Pleased, Chu Feng nodded and said, "That’s more like it; you’re basically describing me to a T."
Mo Yanfang’s eyes twinkled mischievously as she said, "You see, I’m not wrong, am I? Since you’re so eager to help, let’s consider our arrangement settled. No backing out, whoever does is a little dog."
Chu Feng didn’t even have a chance to refuse before Mo Yanfang had cornered him.
Chu Feng said, "Why do you have to find someone to pretend to be your friend?"
Upon hearing this, Mo Yanfang’s face dimmed as she said, "Class president, it’s all because of my mom. Otherwise, I wouldn’t be so desperate."
Chu Feng was taken aback and said, "You just started college, and your mom is already pushing you to get a boyfriend. What does she want next? You to get married in college, get a diploma recognized by the country, and earn two extra credits? Is she also planning to get you a birth permit for another two credits? Is she that worried you won’t graduate?"
Mo Yanfang playfully complained, "You’re so annoying, class president. It’s your mom who’s worried you won’t graduate."
