Chapter 342: Chapter 0343 Clean Up
Chu Feng passed out, but East River did not completely quiet down because of the cessation of this battle.
Whether it was the Bai Family, Wu Family, Jin Family, or Elite Society, all understood that the true meaning of this battle was not about the victory or defeat of Chu Feng and Sword Obsession. It was about which side’s forces would ultimately have the upper hand.
Now that Chu Feng had won, the Elite Society naturally could not just wait for death.
However, due to Chu Feng’s prior arrangements, all the official-related people had been cleansed by He Jianguo through the matter of the last demolition.
This time they wanted to exert their force, but before they could, the Disciplinary Committee had already fully intervened, taking everyone away overnight.
As for the underground forces, they also wanted to create destruction and chaos, to give themselves a chance for a final counterattack. But before they could even start their operations, the people from Dragon Soul had already broken in, capturing all of them in one fell swoop.
That night, the people of East River were still in their sweet dreams, but the underworld of East River was anything but peaceful.
Dragon Soul, in alliance with the garrison forces of Wang Teng, cleansed all of Jinying Society’s influences in East River’s underworld overnight.
As for the above-ground forces, since they were legal, they wouldn’t be touched for the time being. However, they were also being closely monitored, which left them absolutely no chance to create chaos.
Of course, there was a mistake. Due to a slight oversight at an abandoned underground location, a bomb was detonated by people from the Elite Society.
However, everyone from the Elite Society died, whereas Wang Teng and the people from Dragon Soul were unscathed.
This was the only oversight, and He Jianguo had already arranged for the publicity department to prepare some coverage to slightly beautify the incident and then report it.
In any case, Dragon Soul had successfully taken down all of the Elite Society’s strongholds in East River with the smallest possible cost.
Previously, it was not that they were unaware of their existence, it was just that there had never been such a good opportunity.
Because this time, everyone’s attention was on Chu Feng and Sword Obsession. So, this had given Dragon Soul the time and opportunity to make arrangements.
The next morning, when the first ray of sunlight pierced into the room, Chu Feng also woke up in a daze.
The fierce battle left Chu Feng’s meridians somewhat tingling, and his body felt hollow, with only a trace of Spiritual Energy wandering within.
"This time was a bit tough, but luckily I have the Xuanhuang Technique, which should allow me to recover about eighty percent in about a week," Chu Feng pondered silently.
Just as he was about to get up and move around, Chu Feng also felt his hand was somewhat heavy.
Upon opening his eyes, Chu Feng also saw Qin Mei and the other three ladies, two on each side, sleeping soundly next to him.
Seeing the four slumbering women, Chu Feng was also deeply moved.
Chu Feng did not disturb them but gently got up and then carried each of the four ladies back to their own rooms.
After returning each of the four women to their rooms, Chu Feng was also somewhat out of breath.
"It seems I must hurry and recover. Otherwise, things might not settle down. Plus, since they don’t know I can recover ahead of schedule, I should also be able to give everyone a big surprise," Chu Feng murmured.
Chu Feng was preparing to go out and move his muscles after opening the door.
But just as he had opened the door, Chu Feng also saw, dressed in black, the Shadow who had previously crossed hands with him—Jin Enhui’s.
"You’re here. Why didn’t you ring the doorbell?" Chu Feng said casually.
However, although Chu Feng appeared casual, under his tongue, he was silently exerting force. If the Shadow made any slight move, even at the risk of further injury, Chu Feng was ready to take him down.
"Please, can you spare the young miss?" the Shadow suddenly knelt on the ground and pleaded.
Shadow was taken aback by this sudden development, and so was Chu Feng.
Chu Feng looked at Shadow and said, "I have never thought about killing her, but she has tried to kill me multiple times. And this time, whether she lives or dies may not be up to me to decide."
Kneeling on the ground, Shadow said, "Mr. Chu, just one word from you, and she will definitely survive."
Chu Feng smiled and replied, "You overestimate me. I’m not King Yan; I can’t decide life and death with a single word."
Shadow looked at Chu Feng earnestly and said, "Mr. Chu, I believe you must have a way, right?"
Chu Feng snorted coldly and looked at Shadow, asking, "Are you threatening me?"
Prostrating on the ground, Shadow replied, "Mr. Chu, I have no intention of threatening you. I am begging you, I hope you can spare the misses this time."
Chu Feng looked at Shadow and was slightly moved in his heart.
However, thinking of everything Jin Enhui had done, Chu Feng hardened his heart and said, "Dragon Soul won’t touch you, but whether the Iga Family will let you go is something I can’t guarantee."
Still kneeling on the ground, Shadow said, "Mr. Chu, I hope you can let the misses stay in Huaxia. I am willing to work like an ox or horse to repay your kindness."
Shadow was smart. Huaxia, this ancient and mysterious country, was the only one Elite Society had not infiltrated.
As long as they could stay in Huaxia, they would be safe.
Chu Feng said, "I don’t need cattle or horses. I’ve already let you off once. As for your future, that is your business. I don’t wish to see you around my house again. You may leave."
Shadow looked at Chu Feng, opened her mouth but ultimately got up, bowed deeply, and then turned to leave Chu Feng’s house.
Chu Feng watched Shadow go, then turned back and re-entered his room.
Shadow went all the way back to the villa where Jin Enhui was staying. Seeing her holding a wine glass, she said, "Miss, we should leave Huaxia now. I have arranged everything."
Jin Enhui looked at Shadow and asked, "You’ve been with me all these years, do you think it has been worth it?"
Shadow nodded firmly and replied, "Miss, Shadow thinks it’s worth it. For you, anything is worth it. Without you back then, I might have died at the hands of those thugs."
Jin Enhui chuckled and said, "But those thugs were from the Jin Family to start with—didn’t you know that?"
Shadow replied, "I knew. But I am still willing."
Jin Enhui asked, "You love me, but I can’t love you back. Do you think that’s also worth it?"
Shadow looked at Jin Enhui’s delicate face through her veiled countenance and responded, "Worth it!"
Jin Enhui continued, "But I’ve been to bed with many men, and you’ve seen it all. I’m simply not worthy of you."
Shadow said, "No! You didn’t do those things willingly."
Jin Enhui looked at Shadow and eventually burst into wild laughter, "All these years, I never knew that you never despised me. I’ve always thought I wasn’t worthy of you, but it turns out you don’t care."
After a pause, her expression forlorn, Jin Enhui said, "But now, it’s all too late. If there is an afterlife, I hope I’m not born into the Jin Family. Perhaps then, I might feel that I’m worthy of you."
"Miss!" Shadow, hearing Jin Enhui’s words, rushed forward, but Jin Enhui had already begun to bleed from the corners of her mouth.
"Promise me, live on." These were the last words Jin Enhui left behind.
