Chapter 34: Chapter 0034: Martial Arts Prodigy [Part 1]
Chu Feng saw his sister-in-law awaken and hurriedly put her down.
It was only then that Chu Feng realized that his actions just now might have indeed been a bit too abrupt, and he immediately explained, somewhat embarrassed, "Sister-in-law, I saw you were too tired and I didn’t want to wake you, so I thought I’d carry you inside to sleep."
Qin Mei’s cheeks flushed with embarrassment as she lightly scolded, "Xiao Feng, next time just wake me up, okay? You haven’t eaten yet, right? Hurry up and go eat."
"Okay!" Chu Feng nodded and went to the dining table to eat.
Chu Feng ate his meal in earnest while Qin Mei felt a bit awkward because of the slightly intimate incident that had occurred.
"Xiao Feng, now that we have some money at home, you can stop working part-time for a while. Just focus on your studies and aim to get into a good university, okay?" Qin Mei hesitated for a long time before finally speaking.
Chu Feng replied, "Sister Mei, I promised to help Sister Yan for a while longer. Her Golden Cauldron is about to be pawned, and it’s a busy time for the handover. And don’t worry about me, Sister Mei, I absolutely won’t neglect my studies."
Qin Mei already knew about Chu Feng becoming the Top Scholar and, although she didn’t know how it happened, she believed that Chu Feng had achieved it through his own true capabilities.
Qin Mei nodded and said, "Since that’s the case, then go ahead and help your boss out a bit more. It’s not easy for your boss being a woman alone."
Chu Feng nodded, thought about the entertainment company for a moment, and then decided to discuss it with Qin Mei tomorrow.
"Xiao Feng, is there something you want to talk to me about?" Qin Mei asked, noticing Chu Feng’s hesitation.
Chu Feng found an excuse and said, "Sister Mei, you’re always telling me to rest, but what about you? You’ve also been tired over these years. Now that I’m earning money, you should quit your job and take a proper rest at home for a while."
Qin Mei laughed with relief after hearing Chu Feng’s words, "Xiao Feng, although we now have money at home, we can’t just sit back and deplete it. You still need to go to university and eventually get married and buy a house, all of which will cost money."
After a pause, Qin Mei joked with Chu Feng for a rare occasion, "You can’t live with me for the rest of your life, right?"
Chu Feng replied with utmost seriousness, "Why not? As long as you, Sister Mei, don’t get married, I’ll support you for life. Any daughter-in-law who wants to enter the Chu Family must respect you first."
Qin Mei was startled by Chu Feng’s serious demeanor but then felt a bit happy.
She tapped Chu Feng’s forehead with her finger and scolded, "I’m not so old that I need you to take care of me. Besides, what does it mean if I still live with you after you get married?"
Chu Feng said with a grin, "Of course, you’re not old, Sister Mei. You’re not only youthful but very young. Oh, what’s the idiom that describes Sister Mei’s current age? Right! ’The tender age of cardamom years!’"
Qin Mei rolled her eyes at Chu Feng’s response, "I’m about to enter middle age, and you’re talking about cardamom years."
Although Qin Mei said this, she still felt quite pleased inside. After all, no woman dislikes being praised.
Chu Feng sighed and said, "If you, Sister Mei, are about to enter middle age, then I’m not that far off either. Here we are, two people on the cusp of middle age, and we were just discussing the college entrance exams. It seems my academic performance is bad enough. Hitting middle age and only then preparing for the entrance exams."
Giggling, Qin Mei said with a teasing glance, "You are always full of odd jokes, hurry up and eat. After dinner, I’ll wash the dishes, and you go review your lessons."
Chu Feng said, "Sister Mei, let me do the dishes today. You should rest early, I’ve already sorted out my studies at Sister Yan’s place."
Indeed feeling somewhat tired, Qin Mei stood up and said, "Then you should also go to bed early."
"Mm-hmm!" Chu Feng hastily agreed, promptly devouring the food on the table.
After his cultivation, Chu Feng noticed his appetite was continuously growing. Even though he had already eaten dinner, he still managed to finish off a full table of food when he got home.
"It seems that cultivation is indeed a money-burning endeavor. If I didn’t have money to back me up, I would eat myself into poverty," Chu Feng mused as he washed the dishes.
Fortunately, Chu Feng had money now and, for the time being, he didn’t need to worry about financial issues.
Chu Feng quickly finished setting the bowls and chopsticks, then he began his day’s cultivation.
Sitting cross-legged in his room, Chu Feng felt the cool strands of Pure Yin Qi emanating from Qin Mei’s room, and he sensed that his cultivation technique was operating much faster.
Just after midnight, Chu Feng stopped cultivating. His master was scheduled to guide him in his kung fu training between 1 a.m. and 3 a.m.
Chu Feng opened his room door slightly and glanced at Qin Mei’s room, confirming that Qin Mei had fallen asleep. Then he opened the window and slipped out.
The height of the third floor was no longer a challenge for Chu Feng.
Even though May Day was upon them, the north still held a chill. Chu Feng couldn’t help but shudder and then briskly ran towards the small park a kilometer away.
By the time Xiao Feng arrived, Zhang Shisan was already waiting for him in the park.
Zhang Shisan glanced at Chu Feng and frowned, "Did you get into a fight tonight?"
Chu Feng chuckled and replied, "Nothing gets past Master’s eyes. Somebody was looking for trouble today, so I gave them a lesson."
Zhang Shisan nodded but said nothing.
After a moment, Zhang Shisan asked, "Did you remember the movement technique I taught you yesterday?"
Chu Feng nodded, "I remembered all of it."
It was a joke; with his photographic memory, how could Chu Feng not remember?
Hearing Chu Feng’s answer, Zhang Shisan showed a faint trace of surprise. He knew it had taken him a whole week to memorize those steps, yet Chu Feng had memorized them all in just one day; unless Chu Feng was a martial genius.
Without betraying any emotion, Zhang Shisan said, "Since you’ve remembered, perform the technique for me."
"Yes!"
Following Zhang Shisan’s words, Chu Feng began to demonstrate the movement technique from memory.
Since he had just memorized it, Chu Feng’s movements were still somewhat awkward and didn’t achieve a ghostly effect; however, each step was executed with precision, leaving no room for errors.
Watching Chu Feng’s precise steps, a glint shone in Zhang Shisan’s aged eyes, and excitement surged in his heart.
"Truly a once-in-a-century martial prodigy. Heaven has truly blessed us; Carefree Sect will finally have its day of vengeance!"
In fact, Zhang Shisan didn’t realize that Chu Feng’s photographic memory was a gift from the Xuanhuang Technique, a cultivation technique not of this world.
After Chu Feng finished going through the steps, he asked, "Master, I didn’t make any mistakes, right?"
Despite the joy in his heart, Zhang Shisan’s face remained expressionless. He did not want Chu Feng to become proud and arrogant, as complacency was the greatest weapon against a genius’s development.
With no emotion on his face, Zhang Shisan spoke, "Though there are no mistakes, this is a movement technique, not a leisurely walk. Your speed is too slow, and the transitions and connections are rough. Watch my movements closely; I will demonstrate it again for you."
"Yes!"
Chu Feng had thought Zhang Shisan might praise him a bit, but instead, he received dissatisfaction, leading to a wane in enthusiasm.
Still, Chu Feng watched Zhang Shisan’s every move intently, imprinting every action deeply into his mind.
After Zhang Shisan finished demonstrating, he said, "Now, try walking it again!"
