Chapter 319: Chapter 0320: Mockery is on the Face, Irony is in the Heart

The unsettled nature of high society, simply put, comes down to a clash between two philosophies. One side is rooting for Chu Feng to win, and the other is hoping he’ll lose.

As for neutral spectators, there aren’t any, because the match is a zero-sum game: it’s win or lose, no draws. Choosing to stay neutral at such a time would get one excluded from the circle.

So for Chu Feng, this was just an ordinary competition. But for the whole East River area, it was a choice of where to stand, especially at such a critical juncture.

Next year is the East River’s family congress, and among the region’s elite, some are destined to become patriarchs of noble families. So now is the perfect timing for them to choose sides.

Overall though, slightly more people seemed optimistic about Chu Feng’s chances. After all, the Zhuang Family is the largest in East River and is also the most likely candidate to become a noble family. And with the An Family’s support for Chu Feng, his popularity has gained even more.

After a busy week, it was finally Friday. Chu Feng had originally planned to go home, but a phone call from Zhuang Xinyan meant he had to change his plans at the last minute.

Chu Feng arrived at East Lake Villa as promised.

After showing the Supreme Card Zhuang Xinyan gave him last time, the taxi Chu Feng was in entered East Lake Villa.

This was the first taxi to enter East Lake Villa, but it wouldn’t be the last. As long as there were people like Chu Feng, it definitely wouldn’t be.

Gazing at this place, said to be as mysterious as the Imperial Palace, the taxi driver felt as if his eyes weren’t enough to take it all in. He kept asking Chu Feng about everything he saw.

However, since this was only Chu Feng’s second visit, he was completely unfamiliar with the area himself. Fortunately, someone sat in the front passenger seat to answer these questions.

The taxi eventually stopped in front of a building reminiscent of a prince’s mansion.

"How much do I owe you?" Chu Feng asked.

The taxi driver said, "No charge! No charge! Taking you here has really opened my eyes. Here’s my phone number. If you ever need a ride like this again, I’ll do it for free. This experience alone is enough for me to brag about for half a year with my buddies."

Chu Feng wasn’t one to take advantage of freebies, so he glanced at the meter and threw two hundred Huaxia Coins to the driver.

After paying the fare, Chu Feng entered the mansion-like building alongside a doorman.

The architecture was utterly ancient, a stark contrast to the modern villas of the clubhouse. It was a place for dining.

The servers inside were dressed like the princesses and princes of yore, truly giving one the feeling of being royalty.

Escorted by two greeters, even lovelier than princesses, Chu Feng made his way to the Queen Hall where Zhuang Xinyan was.

"You’re here. Sit down," said Zhuang Xinyan, dressed in a plain-colored dress.

Chu Feng retorted, "You rich people are really too capricious. It’s just a meal, isn’t the spicy noodles outside the school gate good enough?"

Despite his words, Chu Feng unceremoniously took a seat.

Zhuang Xinyan replied, "Spicy noodles are fine, of course, but they’re not suitable for discussing matters. If you want spicy noodles, I can have the chef make you some."

"I come to such a fine place and you offer me spicy noodles?" Chu Feng said.

Zhuang Xinyan replied, "I didn’t say it was my treat. Today, we go Dutch."

Upon hearing this, Chu Feng deflated and said, "Then just give me a bowl of spicy noodles."

Zhuang Xinyan laughed, "You could say you’ve made it in business. Your wealth might not rival that of a country, but at your age, it’s pretty remarkable."

Chu Feng sighed like an old man, "Ah! We all come from humble beginnings, can’t compare to you born with a Golden Key. My money was earned through labor and risking my neck; I can’t just spend it recklessly."

Zhuang Xinyan said, "Actually, the Supreme Card I gave you allows you to dine here for free."

Upon hearing that, Chu Feng’s eyes lit up, "Why didn’t you tell me sooner? Order me the most expensive dish on the menu, one of each. Also, prepare some takeout boxes; what I can’t eat, I’ll take with me."

Zhuang Xinyan laughed even more cheerfully and said, "I really don’t know if you’re serious or just pretending?"

Chu Feng was very angry and said, "Nerdiness isn’t faked, posh and wealthy is what’s faked. I won’t allow you to question the essence of my nerdiness because only a nerd can make a comeback. Posh and wealthy can only be overtaken. I’m a nerd and I’m proud of it!"

Zhuang Xinyan’s laughter grew even more joyful, though she remained as elegant as ever. To Chu Feng’s disappointment, he didn’t see the stormy seas he’d expected.

Zhuang Xinyan said, "The Eastern side has agreed to set the duel for Christmas Day."

Chu Feng was startled and said, "Wasn’t that supposed to be agreed upon a long time ago?"

Zhuang Xinyan shook her head and said, "They only agreed to it today."

Chu Feng said, "Then it seems I was wishfully thinking, assuming silence meant consent."

Zhuang Xinyan said, "It’s not as simple as you think."

Chu Feng said ’angrily’, "You’re mocking me again!"

Zhuang Xinyan firmly denied it, saying, "No! This isn’t mocking! This is sarcasm!"

"Pfft!"

Hearing her words, Chu Feng felt as if his heart had been fiercely stabbed.

"Is there a difference?" Chu Feng asked unwillingly.

Zhuang Xinyan said, "Mocking is on the face, sarcasm is in the heart!"

"Pfft!"

Chu Feng felt his heart was stabbed fiercely once more. And this stab was based on the foundation of the previous one, going even deeper.

This really is adding pain to pain.

"If you don’t understand, I can continue explaining it to you..."

Chu Feng raised his hand and said, "Alright. Stop there. Beautiful lady, you’re so good at chatting; did your family really create you?"

Zhuang Xinyan smiled faintly and said, "My family always thinks the way I talk is very good."

Chu Feng said, "Alright, let’s continue with the previous topic. The time is set; is the place set as well?"

Zhuang Xinyan said, "The place is set at the Broken Wave Cliff!"

Chu Feng touched his nose and said, "Do all these experts have this kind of preference? For a place to duel, does it have to be somewhere so high? Aren’t they afraid of falling off and getting smashed to death?"

Zhuang Xinyan said, "I thought you would be satisfied with this location?"

Chu Feng said, "I’d rather find a warm place."

Zhuang Xinyan said, "Then you can propose a change of location."

Chu Feng said, "Never mind that. The time has already been changed to my liking; if the location were also changed to my liking, then those people from the Eastern side would think I’m scared, that I’m bullying them."

Zhuang Xinyan said, "Sometimes I really don’t understand; obviously, this is your strategy, but why do you insist on making it sound so casual? Previously, you wanted to change the time to declare that this is Huaxia, not a place where they can make all the decisions. Now, you’re not changing the location just to make them realize that Huaxia is a land of Etiquette, and it’s not that we are afraid of them."

Chu Feng rubbed his temples and said, "Actually, I’m not being casual, it’s just that you’re too smart. It makes me have to act casually."

After Chu Feng finished speaking, his eyes also glanced outside the window, and his eyebrows involuntarily furrowed slightly.
