Chapter 307: Chapter 308: No Temporary Workers

The exposure of the demolition fiasco left not only the demolition crew in panic, but also District Chief Wen.

This was a project contracted to his nephew, and to claim that it had nothing to do with him would be a tale not even fools would believe.

Of course, even if the demolition crew racked their brains, they couldn’t figure out how Chu Feng knew the contracts were all in that bag. There were many people with backpacks present, and he had given the bag to his subordinates precisely because he was worried about it being discovered. Yet, even so, Chu Feng still managed to find it.

Now with conclusive evidence, how could he possibly explain himself?

Violent demolitions, forging demolition contracts, forging signatures—if all these charges were combined, he feared he wouldn’t be able to finish his prison meals in this lifetime.

"Grab the stuff back, what are you waiting for!" the leader shouted, and everyone prepared to snatch the items.

"What do you think you’re doing!" Liu Wenqing knew it was time for him to step in.

"Who are you to interfere? Mind your own business. We are all District Chief Wen’s people, and you, a secretary, should stay out of this!" the leader, seeing Liu Wenqing dressed like a secretary, said disdainfully.

Upon hearing this, District Chief Wen also felt his scalp tingle and said, "What relationship do you have with me? I don’t know any of you at all. By the looks of you, you don’t seem to be official demolition workers. You must be temporary workers!"

"District Chief Wen, we have a contract, how could we be temporary workers? Don’t worry, District Chief Wen, I’ll handle the contract issues and ensure that not even a single piece of information gets leaked," the leader said.

Hearing this, District Chief Wen wished he could pick up a brick from the ground and knock this bastard unconscious.

How could he be so foolish to not even understand such basic priorities? To not possess that level of discernment?

"District Chief Wen, I want to hear your explanation for this!" Liu Wenqing demanded angrily.

"Secretary Liu, listen to me, this really isn’t what it looks like. They are all temporary workers. I suspect that the government document they have is also fake," District Chief Wen said as he wiped his sweat.

The leader, seeing District Chief Wen so ingratiating himself to a mere secretary, was dumbfounded. Initially, he thought that Liu Wenqing was the District Chief’s secretary.

But now it was clear that he wasn’t, and there were only a few secretaries before whom District Chief Wen would show such respect, so few they could be counted on one hand.

"District Chief Wen, I recall you just said that the documents they hold are real. And just now, I asked them, and not a single one claimed to be a temporary worker. All these points have been witnessed by everyone here, so don’t you dare try to pin this on temporary workers when things go south," Chu Feng said solemnly.

At that moment, District Chief Wen realized what had gone wrong. Chu Feng had set a trap, luring him step by step into it.

How was he to handle this now? Liu Wenqing had seen everything, and even if he dived into the Yellow River, he couldn’t clear his name.

"We are all temporary workers; this is all our own doing," the leader said through gritted teeth, stepping forward.

Seeing the leader taking the fall at the critical moment, District Chief Wen breathed a sigh of relief.

Chu Feng looked at them, "Temporary workers with district government documents?"

Just as the leader took out the document and was about to swallow it, Chu Feng had already stepped forward and snatched the document from his hand.

"This is evidence; don’t even think about eating it," Chu Feng said, holding the document.

"That document is fake, we forged it ourselves," the leader stated, gnashing his teeth.

Chu Feng heard this and sneered coldly, "Good! I’ll assume this document is fake for now. Let me count your crimes: forging government documents, violent demolition, injuring residents during demolition, forging demolition contracts, and involvement with organized crime, among other things... Calculate these offenses yourself; if you are all sentenced together, do you think you could face the death penalty?"

The leader shuddered at the words ’death penalty’ and said, "Don’t try to scare me."

Chu Feng replied, "Whether I’m scaring you, you know very well. In fact, your own death wouldn’t really matter. The key point is your brothers behind you; I’m afraid every one of them will be eating prison meals for a lifetime."

"We aren’t temporary workers; that document is real. I followed him to the district government to get it," one of them ratted out immediately after Chu Feng spoke, revealing all the facts.

"You’re seeking death!" The leader glared viciously at the person who betrayed him.

"Boss, I don’t want to eat prison meals for life!" the person said, close to tears.

"These are all the evidence, take good care of them. I trust you’ll handle it," Chu Feng handed all the evidence to Liu Wenqing.

"Understood, I’ll take proper care of them!" Liu Wenqing nodded.

"Secretary Liu, let me help you with those," District Chief Wen interjected.

Liu Wenqing yanked his hand back, "No need. I will personally hand these over to Secretary He."

Just as District Chief Wen was about to make a harsh move, the sound of sirens approached from behind. Several police cars arrived, and seeing the person who got out, District Chief Wen relaxed.

"Captain Li, over here. These people are suspected of forging government documents and violently resisting demolition. Take them all back for investigation," District Chief Wen ordered.

After a pause, District Chief Wen looked at Liu Wenqing, "Secretary Liu, the materials in your hands are important documents, it’s better to give them to the police for safekeeping for now."

Liu Wenqing was not new to officiating, and in such a scenario, if he couldn’t see something was amiss, he would be foolish.

"What do you mean by this, District Chief Wen! These crucial pieces of evidence are to be handed over to Secretary He. What are you trying to do?" Liu Wenqing exclaimed loudly.

"Secretary Liu, the mayor, Mayor Zhang, is personally overseeing this case. I have no choice. It would be better for you to cooperate. We would prefer not to resort to violence," District Chief Wen said.

Hearing this, Liu Wenqing’s expression changed, and he shouted, "I am Liu Wenqing, the secretary of the City Party Secretary. Nobody act rashly!"

Chu Feng patted Liu Wenqing on the shoulder, "Secretary Liu, they won’t listen to you now. You’d better call Jianguo and Pei Wending. I’ll handle things here."

"But Young Master Chu..."

Chu Feng cut off Liu Wenqing, "Just do as I say. I’ll take care of the rest."

"It’s you, you little punk, who ruined our plans. Take him down first!" District Chief Wen, seeing Chu Feng step forward, ground his teeth with anger.
