Chapter 251: Chapter 0251: Bronze Coffin

Chu Feng was not clear about the mythical era Fan Ting’an mentioned. After all, it was too far removed from the present, but there were indeed many legends from the Pre-Qin period, especially about Qi Cultivators, who were considered Immortal beings.

Fan Xiaoxiao, utterly stunned, asked, "Grandpa, are there really zombies? Was it really the work of a zombie?"

Fan Ting’an said, "Grandpa is only speculating. As for whether it’s true or not, Grandpa is not an Immortal; I don’t know for sure."

Wang Teng and Gu Zhong, upon hearing Fan Ting’an’s words, were somewhat disappointed.

After all, no matter what caused it, even if it was really done by a zombie, what could they do about it? At least they had a direction and a goal to strive for, right? That’s surely better than being clueless like flies without heads.

"Elder Gu, Elder Fan, I can only rely on the two of you now. Those soldiers were brought out by me; I can’t fail to bring them back. Otherwise, how could I face their parents?" The incident at the military camp had Wang Teng most anxious.

Within less than a day, Wang Teng’s voice had gone hoarse.

Gu Zhong and Fan Ting’an exchanged glances, then Gu Zhong said, "This matter is too bizarre. If we truly wish to solve it, we probably need to examine the scene where it happened."

Fan Ting’an nodded and added, "I agree. Such matters are somewhat mysterious; we have to go there and see for ourselves to be certain."

Wang Teng looked towards Chu Feng, who said, "If my brother has no solution, my Medical Skill is comparable to his, so we must take a look at the site."

Wang Teng said, "Then let’s go now."

"Xiaoxiao, you don’t need to go. Just stay here," Chu Feng told Fan Xiaoxiao.

Fan Xiaoxiao objected, "No, I want to go too."

Fan Ting’an said, "Xiaoxiao, be obedient; stay here. You won’t be much help if you go."

"Fine!" With her grandpa insisting, Fan Xiaoxiao could only pout and agree.

"I’ve already had people securing the area," Wang Teng said as he led Chu Feng and the other two outside while talking.

With Wang Teng guiding them, the four quickly arrived at the burial site, which was under tight security.

"This is indeed a Pre-Qin burial site," Fan Ting’an stated as he picked up a handful of dirt near the entrance of the thief’s tunnel and sniffed it carefully.

"Elder Fan, is something not right?" Seeing Fan Ting’an frown, Wang Teng immediately asked anxiously.

Fan Ting’an sniffed carefully again and replied, "There is a smell of a human in this soil."

Gifted archaeologists have the most sensitive noses and eyes. They can even determine the age of an artifact simply by its smell.

"A human scent?"

Everyone felt a chill run down their spines upon hearing Fan Ting’an’s words.

"Elder Fan, could it have been the work of a couple of tomb raiders?" inquired Chu Feng.

Fan Ting’an answered, "It’s unlikely. This scent seems to come not from a living person but from the stench of a corpse. It could be that they opened the coffin, releasing the smell."

"Elder Fan, could it really be a zombie?" Despite being a staunch atheist, Wang Teng couldn’t dismiss the possibility any longer.

Fan Ting’an responded, "It’s hard to say. But if zombies truly exist, there’s no need for excessive fear. Although it’s portrayed mysteriously, it could be explained scientifically. Simply put, it’s like there’s energy within the human body which, when sealed during burial, isn’t released. If stimulated by external factors, this energy could be freed."

With Fan Ting’an’s explanation, the crowd felt a bit relieved.

After a pause, Fan Ting’an added, "However, this is merely speculation. As for the specifics, I don’t know. We’ll only find out if someone goes down to check."

Upon hearing this, Wang Teng immediately said, "I’ll go down."

Chu Feng stopped Wang Teng with his hand and said, "Brother Wang, let me handle this."

When Wang Teng heard Chu Feng volunteered to descend, he quickly insisted, "Brother Chu, this is a military matter; I should be the one to go down."

Chu Feng chuckled and said, "Brother Wang, if there really is a zombie down there, it would probably be safer for me to go down than for you. After all, I know Kung Fu and can still run away if I can’t beat it. You don’t need to argue with me about this."

After saying this, Chu Feng immediately dived into the thief’s tunnel.

"Brother Chu, put on the protective suit," Wang Teng quickly shouted.

Chu Feng replied, "No need."

Now, Chu Feng could release his Inner Strength externally. If even his own Inner Strength couldn’t stop it, then a protective suit would be useless.

Chu Feng entered the tomb through the thief’s tunnel and quickly made his way inside.

The tomb wasn’t large, one could see the end at a glance. Apart from a mahogany coffin in the center, there were no so-called zombies.

Chu Feng scanned around and found nothing particularly special about the place.

"The coffin hasn’t been opened, so the corpse energy probably isn’t coming from inside the coffin," Chu Feng said as he touched the mahogany coffin.

"Hmm?"

As he touched the mahogany coffin, he couldn’t help but exclaim in surprise.

The mahogany coffin was ice-cold to the touch and didn’t feel like wood.

Chu Feng pushed hard against it but couldn’t budge it.

Considering that Chu Feng’s casual push could exert over a thousand pounds of force, it was surprising that he couldn’t move it.

"Crack!"

With a strong slap, he immediately shattered the mahogany.

After the mahogany shattered, Chu Feng could see that what lay beneath it was entirely made of bronze.

Although bronze had appeared during the Pre-Qin Period, it was generally exclusive to the royal family. However, this grave was clearly not that of a nobleman, as none of their tombs would be so crude.

"A Bronze Coffin!"

Chu Feng was somewhat surprised to see the coffin.

He walked around the Bronze Coffin and didn’t find anything peculiar.

"It seems I’ll only know what’s inside by opening it," Chu Feng remarked.

He tentatively used his Divine Sense to probe the coffin, but to his surprise, his Divine Sense was reflected back.

His Divine Sense was very special, able to penetrate walls, yet it could not pass through this Bronze Coffin, which was astonishing to Chu Feng.

Chu Feng placed his hands on top of the coffin and exerted force with both hands to try and move the Bronze Coffin.

This Bronze Coffin was not light; the lid alone weighed over ten thousand pounds.

Chu Feng wondered if there was technology capable of forging ten thousand pounds of bronze during that era, particularly into the shape of a coffin, and most importantly, how it was transported here. After all, there were no cranes at that time.

"Squeak, squeak!"

Luckily, Chu Feng was now at the Yellow Level Late Stage, and the strength of his arms had reached twenty thousand pounds; otherwise, it would have been impossible for anyone else to shake the coffin.

"Thump!"

With a muffled sound, Chu Feng pushed the coffin to the ground.
