Chu Feng and Cui Jingyan had attracted attention, but it was only fleeting. After all, most guests here were dignified individuals who couldn’t keep staring at two people the entire time.

For Cui Jingyan, this kind of banquet was definitely a novelty. However, thanks to her good looks, there was certainly no shortage of people coming up to greet her and curry favor.

Although it was her first time, Cui Jingyan handled it with ease.

As for Chu Feng, he showed little interest and promptly slipped away to enjoy some peace on his own.

Cui Jingyan, seeing Chu Feng acting again like a hands-off shopkeeper, was secretly annoyed, but she maintained her elegance and calmly greeted the men who were eager to get close to her.

"Hero, I didn’t expect you to be here as well," a sarcastic voice sounded behind Chu Feng.

Chu Feng heard the voice and couldn’t help but smile bitterly—it really was a case of whatever you’re afraid of coming your way.

He had wanted to avoid Ning Xiaoman, and yet Ning Xiaoman had sought him out herself.

Chu Feng looked at Ning Xiaoman dressed in an evening gown that accentuated her shapely figure and offered a slight smile. "Beauty, we meet again. I wonder if you went to the hospital afterwards."

Ning Xiaoman, hearing Chu Feng daring to mention the hospital, flashed a spark of anger in her eyes. Nevertheless, considering the setting of a charity dinner, she refrained from making a scene.

Yet her gaze nearly killed Chu Feng with its intensity.

"You didn’t skip the visit, did you? Avoiding medical advice is not proper. It may be in the early stages, but if you neglect treatment, it could get serious..."

Fearing that Chu Feng would say something else, Ning Xiaoman quickly interrupted, saying irritably, "I have gone already, the doctor has examined me and prescribed medication."

Chu Feng, hearing Ning Xiaoman’s words, breathed a sigh of relief. "Since you have the prescription, then there’s no problem. Just take the medicine on time, and you should recover quickly."

Ning Xiaoman, grinding her teeth, said, "However, I have another question for you. What was that warming theory you told me about last time?"

Chu Feng, seeing Ning Xiaoman getting to the point, stammered, "Uh! This! That! This belongs to a secret my master passed down that I can’t reveal."

Ning Xiaoman, seeing Chu Feng come up with such a lame excuse, clenched her teeth in silent fury.

Chu Feng’s eyes darted around, feeling a bit embarrassed to be exposed publicly.

"Here, eat more papaya, it’s good for your condition," Chu Feng said as he picked up a plateful of papaya for Ning Xiaoman.

Ning Xiaoman, seeing Chu Feng dare to mention it, nearly shot daggers from her eyes.

Chu Feng, seeing her reaction, quickly set the fruit plate down and then excused himself, "I need to use the restroom, please excuse me."

Watching Chu Feng dash off, Ning Xiaoman gnashed her teeth in frustration.

"Chairman, I’ve found out everything. Their company is called Fengjing Entertainment Company. It’s a newly established entertainment company, but its strength is rather impressive. They’ve just started up and have already poached the popular group I.L. Furthermore, they’re about to launch a concert tour which is already going full steam ahead," a person dressed as a secretary reported to Ning Xiaoman.

Ning Xiaoman nodded and replied, "Continue to investigate for me, I am considering acquiring that company."

"Chairman, we have never been involved in the entertainment industry before, and the risk of doing so may be too great," the secretary immediately cautioned in a low voice.

Ning Xiaoman never made investments without certainty, and she never acted capriciously just because she was wealthy. But today, Ning Xiaoman had to be capricious just this once—not for anything else but for the man who treated her lightly.

Regaining her queenly demeanor, Ning Xiaoman said coldly, "I know what to do; you just go and do the research."

When Chu Feng came out of the restroom, Cui Jingyan also came looking for him and pinched him hard, saying, "You’re off flirting with girls, leaving me to deal with those old men. How can you live with yourself?"

Chu Feng gave a bitter smile and said, "I was actually thinking we both could take a break. But those old men, they aren’t interested in a young man like me."

"Pfft!" Cui Jingyan couldn’t help but laugh when she heard Chu Feng’s words, then she glared at him and said, "Ning Xiaoman came to find me just now. She said she’s interested in our company and wants to invest."

Chu Feng’s brow furrowed and he asked, "What is she planning to do?"

Cui Jingyan replied, "That’s for you to answer. Obviously, she’s here for you."

Chu Feng asked, "Did you agree to her proposal?"

Cui Jingyan responded, "Of course not. The company is yours; it can only happen if you give the nod."

After hearing Cui Jingyan’s words, Chu Feng’s brow relaxed a bit and he said, "I hope that after you’ve turned her down, she won’t stir up any other trouble."

Cui Jingyan said, "Ning Xiaoman isn’t like that. She conducts her business very openly and honestly; she definitely wouldn’t play dirty behind the scenes. Moreover, her investments are always known for being rational. She’s never been capricious before; you must have done something extremely disappointing to her for her to act this way just once."

Chu Feng coughed twice and said, "Let’s not talk about this."

"Right, isn’t this hosted by the Zhuang Family? Why don’t we see any of the Zhuang Family members?" Chu Feng changed the subject.

Cui Jingyan rolled her eyes at him and said, "They’re the hosts; of course they’ll come out after all the guests have arrived."

Just as Cui Jingyan was speaking, the lights inside the villa dimmed considerably, and then they saw Zhuang Xinyan, dressed in a white evening gown, descending from upstairs like a beautiful fairy, moving gracefully.

When they saw such an enchanting woman descend, both men and women turned their gazes toward her.

Zhuang Xinyan’s face had a faint smile, but it didn’t come across as arrogant at all; instead, it felt very approachable.

"Zhuang Xinyan is one of the most outstanding individuals of the third generation of the Zhuang Family. Her abilities and tact are very impressive. Speaking of which, she was also your classmate, right? If you had the skill, you could win her over too. Then both of East River’s pearls, An Rongrong and Zhuang Xinyan, would be yours," Cui Jingyan whispered teasingly into Chu Feng’s ear.

Chu Feng, slightly beguiled by the scent Cui Jingyan exhaled, replied in a low voice, "Sister Yan, if I were to win you over as well, would that mean I have claimed all three pearls of East River?"

Cui Jingyan’s beautiful eyes twinkled as she said, "How do I count as a pearl?"

Chu Feng replied, "Sister Yan, in my heart, you are a pearl."

With a coquettishly exasperated look, she rolled her eyes at Chu Feng and said, "Smooth talker, but I do like to hear it."

Having said that, Cui Jingyan tightened her grip on Chu Feng’s arm a little more, pressing her chest closer to him.
