Chapter 210: Chapter 0210: The Enigmatic Chu Feng

Pei Wending watched everything with cold eyes, knowing that this was just the beginning. What puzzled Pei Wending, however, was how Chu Feng had managed to persuade the Provincial Hospital.

Dragon Soul’s authority was indeed enormous, but it was limited to the military and their public security system. In terms of other earth-level departments, Dragon Soul’s influence was actually limited.

But none of this was something Pei Wending would speak of, nor would he ask.

Du Xingfa rose to his feet, ready to leave, but just as he opened the door, he saw a grim-faced Tong Zhong, Director Tong, standing at the door.

"Director Tong!" Du Xingfa, seeing Tong Zhong, hurriedly greeted him.

"Director Pei, you are also here." Tong Zhong didn’t even acknowledge Du Xingfa, instead, he walked past him to stand in front of Pei Wending.

As his direct superior, Pei Wending naturally did not dare to neglect him and promptly rose to salute.

Tong Zhong said, "There’s no need for such formalities in the bureau, Director Pei, please take a seat."

Seeing such a scene, Du Xingfa’s heart beat even faster because he could see that the direction things were taking was completely wrong.

"Director Tong, I have some pressing matters and must leave." Du Xingfa felt that he had to leave now. It wasn’t an escape, he needed to conduct a thorough investigation.

Tong Zhong nodded, saying, "Go ahead with your business. My main purpose today is to see Director Pei. Also, before you leave, hand over your current work to Deputy Director Ma."

"Hand over my work? Why?" Du Xingfa immediately questioned when he heard Tong Zhong’s words.

Tong Zhong said, "There is no why, because you are suspended, pending further investigation by the office."

"Why? What did I do wrong? On what grounds do you suspend me?" Du Xingfa was the standing deputy director at the Public Security Bureau and the second most powerful person there.

Tong Zhong replied, "The same reason you suspended Director Pei is why I suspend you. If you want to ask more, you can go and ask Secretary Meng."

"Secretary Meng?"

Du Xingfa was initially stunned, then he remembered who in Songjiang could Tong Zhong possibly refer to as Secretary Meng.

"The Secretary of the Provincial Committee, Secretary Meng?" Du Xingfa felt it was somewhat surreal and thus repeated the question.

Tong Zhong confirmed decisively, "Yes. Your case was personally brought up by Secretary Meng."

After pausing, Tong Zhong snorted coldly, "You’ve really outdone yourself. Suspended the chief of a city’s Public Security Bureau without going through the bureau’s standing committee. If Secretary Meng hadn’t spoken up, I would still be in the dark."

This left Du Xingfa completely pale.

If it had been Tong Zhong’s idea, he could have still arm-wrestled. But with a provincial governor involved, Du Xingfa didn’t even have the qualifications to raise his hand.

Equally astonished was Pei Wending.

Pei Wending was aware of Chu Feng’s identity, but the idea that Chu Feng could influence a regional governor, a decision of a Provincial Committee’s Secretary, was still somewhat unbelievable to Pei Wending.

However, he had no choice but to believe it now, because it was all happening right before his eyes.

Du Xingfa now realized, too, that things had gone completely awry. It seemed he had stirred up a hornet’s nest, first with his son being expelled from the hospital, and then with the Secretary of the Provincial Committee directly ordering his suspension, which now seemed to be more than just a simple suspension.

With sweat on his forehead, Du Xingfa recalled the words Pei Wending had said to him just before.

"There are some people, some matters, that are beyond our control,"

Tong Zhong glanced at Du Xingfa and said, "Don’t you have something to do? You can go handle it now, I still have things to discuss with Director Pei."

Wiping the cold sweat from his forehead, Du Xingfa retreated respectfully, but he was definitely not going to leave at this moment.

"Ding-a-ling-a-ling!"

His phone rang once again; it was still a call from his son.

Seeing the call, Du Xingfa was so angry that he picked up and immediately started scolding, "You beast, have you the nerve to call me?!"

"Dad, what’s wrong with you!" Du Liqun was also baffled by his father’s words.

Roaring furiously, Du Xingfa shouted, "Don’t call me ’Dad,’ you beast. What kind of trouble have you gotten into? Because of you, I am now at a point where I can’t even hold onto my position."

"Dad, what are you talking about!" Hearing his father’s words, Du Liqun too was scared pale.

"Just recall for me, you son of a bitch, who did you mess with that you shouldn’t have? If you can’t remember, I will break your damned legs," said Du Xingfa.

Du Liqun tried hard to remember, but he truly couldn’t think of anyone he had offended.

Because he couldn’t believe that Chu Feng was a significant figure.

"Go home and wait for me at once and don’t you dare step out of the house," Du Xingfa, seeing Pei Wending come out, growled into the phone.

"Director Pei! Director Pei, please wait!" Du Xingfa, upon seeing Pei Wending, walked away and hurriedly chased after him, calling out.

Turning around, Pei Wending eyed the sycophantically complacent Du Xingfa, feeling extremely content.

Though he was middle-aged, it didn’t mean he was devoid of emotions. Seeing the man who had just been full of bluster in front of him now bowing and scraping to him gave him immense satisfaction.

"Director Du, what guidance do you have for me?" inquired Pei Wending.

Seeing the way Pei Wending addressed him, Du Xingfa was irate. However, given that he needed Pei Wending now, he had no choice but to endure it.

"Director Pei, I was offensively out of line just now. I apologize to you, and I hope you will consider our many years of acquaintance and show me a way out," Du Xingfa said. There was no point in beating around the bush anymore, so he decided to ask straightforwardly.

Pei Wending, looking at Du Xingfa, said, "Director Du, as I’ve told you before. There are some people, some matters, we can’t deal with just because we want to, can we?"

After a pause, Pei Wending continued, "Let me add one more thing. You better go back and ask your son about what exactly happened. If what he did was not too extreme, there might still be a chance for redemption. But if he really went too far, then I advise you, Director Du, not to waste your efforts. A person who can even command the Secretary of the Provincial Committee is not someone we can simply appease with an apology."

Despite the sweltering summer heat, Du Xingfa felt a shiver down his spine on hearing Pei Wending’s words.

Indeed! Could such a problem, involving a man who could influence the Secretary of the Provincial Committee, be solved with just an apology?

"Thank you for your advice, Director Pei. I will come to apologize in person on another day." After saying this, Du Xingfa ran out because he had to rush home immediately to get clarity from his ’beast’ of a son about who he had offended.

Watching Du Xingfa leave, Pei Wending himself was still somewhat in the dark. Just before, Tong Zhong had asked him the same question in the room. But Pei Wending genuinely didn’t know what the relationship was between Chu Feng and the Secretary of the Provincial Committee, or what the connection was to the Director of the Provincial Hospital.

However, one thing Pei Wending was certain of was that Chu Feng indeed was a person of considerable importance.
