Chapter 102: Taking Action to Save Someone

Chapter 102: Chapter 102: Taking Action to Save Someone

Chu Feng subconsciously extended his Divine Sense and saw an elder had fallen on a path not far away. Moreover, by the look on the elder’s face, it seemed to be a sudden heart attack.

Since he had come upon the scene, Chu Feng naturally could not ignore it.

In two flashes, Chu Feng arrived directly on that path.

From the elder’s clothing, one could tell that he must have been out exercising late at night. However, for some reason, he had suddenly suffered a heart attack.

Chu Feng squatted down, straightened the elder’s head, and then continuously patted his back, using his own Spiritual Power to help clear the elder’s blocked arteries.

Most heart attack emergencies are due to inadequate blood supply, which was the case for the elder.

Under the gentle clearing of Chu Feng’s Spiritual Power, the elder’s breathing quickly stabilized.

"Elder, are you feeling better now?" Chu Feng asked when he heard the elder’s breathing stabilize.

The elder exhaled deeply, then turned around and said to Chu Feng, "Young man, thank you. If it weren’t for you, I probably would have been done for today."

The elder was very open-minded about life and death, and he spoke these words with considerable ease.

Chu Feng furrowed his brows and said, "Elder, your heart condition is very serious. Why would you come out alone? It’s extremely dangerous."

Having examined him just now, Chu Feng found that the elder’s heart disease was indeed very severe. Under normal circumstances, he should be resting in bed.

The elder smiled faintly and said, "It’s too suffocating to stay at home. I just wanted to get some fresh air."

After saying this, the elder asked with interest, "Young man, are you from the Medical School of East River University?"

Chu Feng shook his head and replied, "I’m from the Management College. I’ve learned a little about first aid."

The elder nodded and said, "I see. Well, I’m fine now. You should hurry back to your dormitory."

Chu Feng, looking at the elder who had stood up, hesitated but then said, "Elder, let me take you home."

Having intervened, Chu Feng naturally felt obliged to see things through to the end.

The elder looked at Chu Feng with a kind smile and said, "Young man, are you not afraid that I might falsely accuse you if you take me home?"

Chu Feng gave a slight smile and replied, "Elder, if you wanted to accuse me, you wouldn’t have waited until now."

The elder smiled slightly and said, "Good! Impressive! East River University is fortunate to have students like you. My heart is comforted."

Chu Feng did not say much, but instead said, "Elder, where do you live? Let me take you there."

"Alright!" The elder nodded and then walked with Chu Feng in the direction of his home.

Chu Feng had originally thought the elder lived off-campus, but to his surprise, the elder actually resided within the campus.

The two arrived across from Bright Moon Lake at a standalone courtyard and said, "This is my home."

Chu Feng looked at the small courtyard before him, his eyebrows slightly furrowed.

This was considered the best location in the entire school; to live here indicated the elder’s identity was no ordinary one.

"Elder, since you’re home, I’ll be heading back," Chu Feng said.

"Wait! You’re my savior; it’s improper not to invite you in for a drink of water when you’re at my doorstep," the elder insisted, and without waiting for an answer, started pulling Chu Feng inside the house.

As they opened the yard gate, they saw an old woman hurrying out from the inside.

Seeing the elder enter, the old woman visibly sighed with relief.

However, a string of scoldings was inevitable, "You old fool, sneaking out while I wasn’t looking. Have you no regard for your life?"

The elder, like a child who had done something wrong, hung his head and said, "I know my days are numbered, I just wanted to take another look here before I go."

At the elder’s words, the old woman’s nose turned red, and she said, "You old fool, you’ve given everything to this school. What more is there to worry about?"

The elder sighed and said, "Let’s not talk about that now. We have a guest; we can’t let him stand outside, can we?"

Only then did the old woman notice Chu Feng and asked in confusion, "Who might this be?"

The elder introduced him warmly, "This young friend is my lifesaver. On my way back just now, I suddenly fell ill, and this young man saved me."

Learning that the elder had another attack upon returning home, the old woman’s heart clenched instantly.

"Don’t worry, all is well now. No need to be so nervous. Let’s go inside and talk," the elder said.

Three people entered the house together, and Chu Feng caught sight of a calligraphy piece in the center of the main room, which caused him a great shock.

"Elder, you are Elder He!" Chu Feng looked at the calligraphy on the wall, exclaiming in astonishment.

Elder He chuckled and replied, "Elder He or not, I am just an old man who teaches."

Chu Feng, observing the kind and modest Elder He, instantly felt a deep respect.

At East River University, and indeed throughout East River, there’s hardly anyone who doesn’t know of Elder He.

It could be said that Elder He was the founder of East River University. The university’s transformation from obscurity to national and global renown is entirely the work of Elder He. Without him, East River University as it is known today would not exist.

Moreover, what earned him the most respect was that after creating East River University, he did not cling to his accomplishments. He chose to step down in favor of someone else because, in his own words, he was like an old ox that had plowed the fields but had grown old and could no longer keep up with the times. East River University needed to be in the hands of someone capable of leading it to greater heights.

This act earned high praise throughout East River and even across all of Huaxia.

As for the courtyard where Elder He now resided, it was his only requested ’privilege’ upon retirement. He wished to witness the true takeoff of East River University.

And there’s an additional noteworthy point about Elder He’s identity. Without it, there would be no calligraphy on the wall, and no reason for the current head of state to address Elder He as "teacher."

Elder He had once fought wars alongside the Grand Ancestor. With Elder He’s experience, he could have been situated much higher up by now. But back then, he firmly decided to give up his position, solely wishing to cultivate more talent for the country.

"Young man, come sit and have some tea. I truly can’t thank you enough today—if not for you, the consequences would’ve been unimaginable," the old lady hospitably invited Chu Feng to sit as she spoke.

Chu Feng took the tea cup from the old lady, hesitated for a moment, but eventually asked earnestly, "Elder He, if I can cure your illness, can you keep it a secret for me?"

"Clang!"

The tea pot slipped from the old lady’s hand and fell onto the serving tray when she heard Chu Feng’s words.

Chu Feng had not wanted to expose his abilities, but faced with such a respectable elder, he could not bear to see a man who had given everything to East River University, to East River, and to Huaxia continue to suffer from illness.

"Young man, what are you saying!" the old lady asked excitedly.

Chu Feng repeated, just as earnestly, "If I can cure Elder He’s illness, can you keep it a secret for me?"

Elder He, hearing Chu Feng’s words, frowned slightly and said, "Young man, I know you mean well, but I am all too aware of my own condition..."

Before Elder He could finish, Chu Feng interjected, "Elder He, you suffer from an aortic blockage leading to insufficient blood supply to the heart muscle, which has caused part of the atrium to die. If I’m not mistaken about the cause, it would be due to a war-related ailment from years past, a consequence of rheumatism.

If you were to seek Western medical treatment, they would undoubtedly recommend a stent. Yet given your age and the thinness of your blood vessel walls, no one would perform the surgery on you."

Before Chu Feng could continue, the old lady, overcome with emotion, interjected, "Young man, do you truly have a way!"

If she had been somewhat skeptical of Chu Feng before, she now harbored no doubt. The fact that Chu Feng could diagnose her husband’s illness wasn’t surprising to her, but his clarity about the cause of the illness profoundly moved her.

This cause was known only to her as his wife; no one else knew the exact details. The wars back then were cruel, and her husband’s illness stemmed from those times.

Moved by Chu Feng’s words, Elder He couldn’t help but be affected.

Chu Feng nodded seriously.

Seeing Chu Feng’s nod, the old lady eagerly asked, "Then can we start now?" without waiting for a reply.

Without letting her finish, Elder He rebuked her in a stern voice, "Xuemei, what are you doing? If saving this miserable old life of mine requires compromising my principles, I’d rather die!"

Xuemei, upon hearing Elder He’s words, opened her mouth to speak but ultimately said nothing.

Hearing Elder He’s words, Chu Feng’s respect for him deepened.

"If you saved me, I’m grateful to you. But if you expect me to do anything against my principles in return, then please leave," Elder He said with unwavering conviction.

Chu Feng, touched and slightly amused, replied, "Elder He, as I said before, I just need you to do one thing for me—keep it a secret."

"Is it really that simple?" Now it was Elder He’s turn to be surprised.

Chu Feng nodded and added, "It’s just that simple. I helped you out of respect, not in expectation of any reward."

He paused, then jokingly added, "Besides, like you said, I’m currently just a student. Apart from asking you not to fail me, what else can I ask of you? But then again, considering I am a Top Scholar, failing shouldn’t be a concern."

After Chu Feng finished, Elder He was taken aback for a moment before bursting into laughter.

Seeing Elder He laugh, Xuemei rolled her eyes at him and said, "You incorrigible old man, all you ever think about are principles."

"Young man, can we start now?" Xuemei asked, clearly unable to wait any longer.
