Aoko blinked, a dazed expression on her face as she looked at Alice.
"Huh? You found him?" After a long moment, Aoko, having recovered from her shock, looked at Alice with bewilderment. "Didn’t we already decide it was just our imagination?"
"No. I met the witness from last night at Reien Academy today," Alice said, her tone flat.
"Tsk, what a coincidence." Aoko took off her warm overcoat and, with a grave expression, walked to the sofa opposite Alice and sat down. "Well, Alice, which student or teacher was it?"
"It was a parent, here for the parent-teacher conference," Alice said calmly.
"Which magus was it? The old monster we predicted?" Aoko’s gaze sharpened, her expression grave.
She had good reason to be serious. A master who could hide from Alice’s barrier without a sound was not someone she could handle.
And a magus who trespassed on a ley line without permission was usually there to plunder it. After all, ley lines were a rare commodity.
"Take a look at this report." Alice reached out and gently pushed a stack of documents on the tea table towards Aoko.
It was information gathered through Alice’s network of contacts. But under the Holy Church’s cover, it was mostly useless, misleading information.
Aoko grabbed the documents from the tea table and began to read, her brow furrowed. "A wealthy Tycoon who adopted the orphan of the Tohno family? Spends most of his time abroad managing his business, recently returned to Misaki Town? The report says he’s just a normal rich guy, not a magus," she muttered as she read.
"However, according to the Aozaki family’s records, the Tohno family was a clan of non-humans with demonic blood. Eight years ago, they angered a being suspected to be a Fallen Angel and were wiped out, leaving only Akiha Tohno, who happened to be at school at the time," Alice said flatly.
"So, the witness’s daughter might be an anomaly?" Aoko was slightly taken aback.
"...Unlikely. Akiha Tohno was only five at the time." When she mentioned Akiha’s name, Alice paused, a hint of sadness in her eyes.
Akiha’s loss of her father at a young age resonated with Alice. And Akiha’s situation was even more tragic. She had lost her father at the age of five, and according to the report, her father, Shiki Tohno, had been gang-raped to death by men.
"So, the other party is just a normal rich guy?" Aoko leaned back against the sofa, looked up, and stared blankly at the ceiling.
Mystery had a strange property: the more people who witnessed it, the weaker it became. Therefore, to preserve their power, mages had a common rule: any normal person who witnessed magic must be killed.
Though Aoko was a magus, and even a True Magic User of the highest rank, in the end, she had just been a high school girl two years ago. She’d barely even killed a chicken, let alone a person.
And to kill an innocent person to protect the secrecy of magic—could she really do it, for the sake of the mages’ pact?
"Aoko, you must make a decision quickly," Alice said, her tone flat. As Aoko’s housemate, Alice knew her well and naturally guessed her current hesitation.
"I have no choice," Aoko sighed, lowering her head, her expression sharp.
Since she had chosen to abandon a normal life and become a True Magic User, then to avoid regretting her decision, she had to see it through to the end.
"Hmm... then, take this." Alice tapped her chin with her finger, and after a moment’s thought, she took a coffee-colored bottle from her pocket and placed it on the tea table, as if rewarding a diligent child.
"What’s this?" Aoko looked down at the ordinary-looking bottle with suspicion.
"A storage vial. I happened to make an extra one, so it’s yours," Alice said, her eyes closed, her tone flat.
"Huh? What’s it for?" Aoko asked, tapping the bottle with her index finger, a puzzled look on her face.
"It’s... like a genie. You say his name, he answers, and you can suck him into the bottle," Alice said calmly.
"This thing is that powerful?" Aoko looked at the bottle with surprise, then with a look of distaste. "Couldn’t you have made it look a little nicer?"
"Ah... it is rather ugly," Alice said, lowering her head and staring at the bottle, muttering to herself. But then she thought, since she wasn’t the one using it, it didn’t matter.
"The bottle only works when the other party is completely defenseless. And if they’ve been given sleeping pills or are under some other spell when they answer, the bottle is also ineffective," Alice explained.
"This is basically useless!" Aoko said with disgust.
"It depends on how you use it," Alice said, tilting her head slightly, her voice a soft whisper.
"Well, maybe it’ll be useful," Aoko said, taking the bottle and putting it in her pocket. She then turned her gaze to Alice. "By the way, where is that rich merchant’s house?"
Alice took out a pair of binoculars and pointed out the window.
Aoko froze for a moment, then, realizing, she grabbed the binoculars and ran to the window. She looked up and, through the binoculars, saw the mansion.
"It’s on the opposite mountain!!!"

Creak—!
The sound of a door opening.
Haru, sitting on the sofa reading a book, looked up.
Akiha, wearing a sheer white nightgown, slowly closed the door and, with a click, locked it.
The girl’s delicate, pretty face was flushed an intoxicating crimson. Akiha looked at Haru with embarrassment. "Papa, my teacher said I’m too strict. She said girls should be gentler. I don’t know how..."
"Come here. Papa will teach you." Haru’s lips curved upwards, and he beckoned to Akiha.
Akiha, her face filled with shyness, but her body moving on its own, her slender, pale feet slowly lifting, slowly came to stand before Haru.
"To become a woman, you have to be gentle, my good daughter." Haru stood up, wrapping his arms around the girl’s slender waist, and gently kissed her rosy lips, licking them once.
"Mm~" Akiha let out a soft moan, her face instantly flushing, but she didn’t take a step back. Instead, she took a step forward and, with a gentle push, pushed Haru onto the sofa.
Haru looked at Akiha with an encouraging gaze, his hand reaching out, gently stroking her smooth back.
Akiha swallowed hard, then slowly sat down on Haru, letting out a cry like a kitten’s meow.
