Chapter 189: Rokuhara Ren’s Archery Demonstration
At the archery range set up by the riverside, practice began.
A gentle breeze blew, rustling the leaves in the trees.
Ren stood at the shooting line, holding a bow and arrow.
Around him, nine members of the Archery Club, Coach Takigawa Masaki, and advisor Kirisu Mafuyu watched his every move.
Their eyes held a mix of curiosity, doubt, and a hint of expectation.
"Phew..."
Ren took his stance, his body relaxed yet taut in perfect harmony. He drew the bowstring, the arrow nocked neatly.
His eyes casually glanced at the target face in the distance, fixed on the center.
*WHOOSH!*
The first arrow shot from the bow, its sharp whistle cutting through the air.
*THWACK!*
A fraction of a second later, the arrow struck dead center on the target face.
"Wow..."
Some club members whispered in awe. Coach Takigawa gave a subtle nod, while Mafuyu maintained her flat expression, though a faint glimmer of approval shone in her eyes.
"..."
Ren didn’t pause. Without hesitation, his hand swiftly reached for the second arrow from his quiver. His movements were so efficient they seemed almost mechanical. He drew, aimed, and released.
*WHOOSH!* *THWACK!*
The second arrow landed right behind the first, splitting its fletching, still in the exact same center point—a perfect robin hood, rare even at the professional level.
*WHOOSH!* *WHOOSH!* *WHOOSH!*
The third, fourth, and fifth arrows flew in rapid succession with near-inhuman speed.
*THWACK!* *THWACK!* *THWACK!*
Each arrow followed the same precise trajectory, striking the exact same spot, stacking one atop the other, splitting the fletching of the previous arrow.
Five arrows, all nestled in the center of the target face, forming a near-perfect single point.
"..."
Silence fell over the range. The club members stared with mouths slightly agape. Even Coach Takigawa and Mafuyu looked stunned.
*👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻*
After a prolonged silence following Ren’s demonstration, applause suddenly erupted, followed by praises from the club members.
They all looked at Ren with a mix of admiration and deep respect.
"I’ve got to admit, Rokuhara-kun, your archery skills far surpass mine. If you hadn’t left the club, you’d definitely be the president." Seiya sincerely acknowledged his inferiority to Ren.
"Ugh, Rokuhara! I’m so sorry you didn’t compete in this year’s Japan High School Nationals! With your skills, Ohananomitsu High would’ve won two years in a row! We missed a golden opportunity!" Nanao shook his head dramatically, his face full of deep regret.
"I never liked how you didn’t take practice seriously, Rokuhara. But I’ve got to admit, you’re a genius at archery. No denying that." Kaito, who often disapproved of Ren’s lackadaisical training attitude, reluctantly conceded.
Usually quiet, Minato gave a slight nod. "No wonder you won last year’s competition. Your archery skills are at a professional level. This is incredible."
With burning enthusiasm, Ryohei looked at Ren with sparkling eyes. "Awesome! I hope my archery skills can reach Rokuhara’s level! Teach us, Rokuhara!"
On the other side of the range, the female members also gazed at Ren with awe. They no longer saw him merely as a womanizer but as an extraordinary archery expert.
"Absolutely amazing. I’ve never seen accuracy like that, even from professional athletes I’ve heard about." Noa sighed in admiration.
"Rokuhara-san is incredible. I didn’t know anyone could shoot that accurately." Yuuna said, her gaze fixed on the target face now pierced by five arrows in one spot.
"Rokuhara-senpai is so cool! I want to be like him!" Rika clenched her fists, brimming with enthusiasm to learn from Ren.
"Ren-senpai is amazing. How are his archery skills even better than before, despite quitting practice? Is this what they call a genius?"
Among them all, Umi was the proudest.
Though she tried hard to hide it, a faint blush colored her cheeks, and a barely noticeable smile tugged at the corner of her lips, as if Ren’s achievement was her own.
Umi was the one who invited Ren to this summer camp, agreed to date him, and now witnessed his brilliance firsthand.
"..."
Amid the praise and admiration, Ren’s demeanor remained calm and unshaken.
To him, the archery skills he’d just displayed were only a fraction of his true ability.
It should be noted that his first Divine Authority was the Sun Conqueror Divine Authority, seized from Hou Yi, the legendary hero who shot down nine of the ten suns.
Clearly, Ren’s archery had surpassed the pinnacle of human capability, entering an extraordinary realm.
The accuracy he demonstrated was merely a small reflection of that divine power.
Stepping forward, Ren set his bow and arrows aside. He turned to face the club members, his gaze calm yet commanding.
"Alright, everyone. I know you’re impressed, but what you saw was just the basics of what’s possible in archery."
He looked at each face filled with curiosity and enthusiasm.
"To improve your accuracy, there are some fundamentals people often overlook."
"First, focus. Not just on the target, but on your breathing, your heartbeat, the breeze. Become one with the bow and arrow. Eliminate all distractions from your mind."
"Second, posture and balance. Your body is the foundation. Feet firm, back straight, shoulders relaxed. Perfect balance when aiming reduces tremors and increases shot stability."
"Third, the release of the bowstring. This is crucial. The release must be smooth and consistent. Don’t rush—let the arrow glide naturally, not forced. Train your finger muscles so the release feels effortless and unhindered."
"Fourth, and most important, visualization. Before you shoot, imagine your arrow hitting the bullseye. Feel the sensation, see the result in your mind. Your brain will help your body achieve it."
Pausing briefly, Ren let his words sink in.
"Archery isn’t just about physical strength but also mental discipline. Calmness, concentration, and precision are key. Train these consistently, and you’ll see significant improvement."
The club members nodded, some pulling out small notebooks to jot down Ren’s tips.
Mafuyu observed closely, occasionally giving a slight nod, while Coach Takigawa crossed his arms, listening to every word with full attention.
To them, Ren was no longer just a former club member but an expert who had reached the level of skill they aspired to.
After Ren finished, Coach Takigawa Masaki stepped forward.
"You heard Rokuhara. Those are critical fundamentals. Now, it’s time to apply what you’ve learned!"
He pointed to the row of neatly set target faces.
"We’ll start with basic practice. Focus on your posture, breathing, and release. Don’t rush. Quality over quantity."
"Rokuhara and I will observe you. If we see any mistakes in your technique, we’ll guide and correct you immediately."
Coach Takigawa glanced at Ren with a small nod of approval.
"So, ready your bows! Let’s begin!"
"Yes, Coach!" x9
The Archery Club members quickly dispersed, taking their positions at the shooting line. They all looked motivated, eager to apply Ren’s tips.
