Chapter 13: Monster cunt

Ragnar and the twins had stationed themselves, watching over their surroundings with caution, when suddenly a low-pitched shriek cut through the air.

The three of them spun toward the sound, and to their surprise they saw a large, strange creature flying straight for the storage house.

From afar, its appearance was hard to discern, but as it drew closer, its bizarre form became clearer.

"What the fuck?" Ragnar gasped, startled. "What the heck is that?"

This strange creature was about the same height as a human being — it had the head of a human male, with blonde hair that was hard to miss under the pale glow of the moon.

Aside from its head, the rest of its body was bird-like: feathers formed its skin, and two long, bat-like wings flapped on its back, propelling it closer to the storage house.

Like Ragnar, the twins were baffled and terrified by its appearance. Its form looked as though it had come straight out of a nightmare.

"Get down," Noah whispered as he grabbed Merlina’s hand. She was in a dazed state, gazing at the bizarre creature, so he quickly pulled her to the ground.

Merlina squatted beside her brother with a terrified expression on her beautiful face. Her lips shivered and her eyes widened as she whispered, "What the heck is that?"

"I don’t know. I haven’t heard of or seen anything like this. Even Old Man James never mentioned a creature such as this," Noah responded calmly, though his voice trembled slightly.

"Are you not afraid?" Merlina asked.

"I am," Noah replied calmly as he peeked at the creature approaching the storage house, "but we need to observe this creature to understand how it operates."

Merlina nodded, though she remained terrified.

On the other side, Ragnar observed the creature with a deep frown on his face.

"Onyx, can you run an analysis on it?"

Ragnar hummed at the system’s response. Even before Onyx spoke, he had already decided to leave the creature titled Monsterborn alone. He silently prayed that the twins would do the same.

’Noah is smart, he’ll make the right choices,’ Ragnar thought.

At that moment, the Monsterborn finally arrived at its destination, the storage house.

It landed on the wooden roof without a sound.

Under their watch, it dug its sharp claws into the roof, carefully pried out two wooden boards, and placed them aside.

Then it brought out a large sack and began stacking it with the harvests.

Grains, tubers, fruits... it piled everything it could lay its claws on into the sack until it was filled to the brim.

After it was done, it expertly replaced the wooden boards in their previous spots.

Then it began spitting on them, much to the disgust of Ragnar and Noah, who had been bold enough to watch.

’Those resins we saw this morning came from the mouth of this ugly thing!’ Ragnar noted with an irritated expression.

Minutes later, the Monsterborn finished its mission. It grabbed the heavy bag filled with food and let out a low shriek, celebrating its successful heist.

’Monster cunt!’ Ragnar cursed. ’It even has the guts to celebrate after stealing. Just wait till I raise my level!’

Under his furious watch, the Monsterborn gave another shriek, flapped its wings, and began flying away.

Its flight speed was nothing extraordinary; if an athlete pursued it at peak speed, he might catch up.

While it flew away, Ragnar and Noah kept their gaze fixed on it.

Only after about seven minutes, when the Monsterborn was out of sight, did they emerge from their hiding spots.

Noah grabbed Merlina’s hand—she was still terrified by the Monsterborn’s appearance—and they both strode out to look for Ragnar.

Ragnar crawled out of the thicket and dusted himself off. After remaining in the bush for about an hour, his body had begun to itch.

He spotted the twins hurrying toward him. Merlina rushed to his side with a worried expression on her face.

"You saw it?" Noah asked calmly.

"Yeah, I did. I’m glad you guys didn’t attack—it is obviously very strong," Ragnar responded before asking, "Have you seen anything like this before?"

Noah shook his head immediately. "I haven’t, but I will ask Old Man James about it."

’Old Man James? Why would he know about this?’ Ragnar wondered.

Noah observed the confused expression on his friend’s face. Recalling that Ragnar had lost his memories, he decided to explain.

"Old Man James was a grand knight. He served the lord of a powerful kingdom that was wiped off the map during the war. He’s faced countless monstrosities and should know about something like this," Noah explained.

Hearing this, Ragnar nodded in understanding. No wonder Noah was fond of the old man; he clearly saw him as a role model.

"Fine. Ask him about it. We need every detail to stop that ugly thief," Ragnar said.

The twins nodded.

Shaken by the bird monster’s appearance, the three of them strolled back to their huts to rest for the night.
