Chapter 11: Two skills

Ragnar opened his inventory and equipped one of the skill scrolls. Immediately, an ordinary-looking scroll appeared, materializing in his hand.

If Ragnar did not know it was a skill scroll, he would have suspected it to be an ordinary scroll and might have opened it to read its contents.

|| Tear the scroll to obtain the skill inside! || Onyx reminded.

Ragnar nodded softly. He exerted a bit of strength on the scroll and tore it apart.

A faint glow, illuminating a small area in the room, erupted from the torn scroll before it vanished.

"This is interesting," Ragnar muttered calmly. "Although I was expecting something on the combat side, a skill like this will go a long way toward developing my territories now and in the future."

As he confirmed his new skill, his character status opened.

On the previously empty [Acquired Skills] slot, a flash appeared and [Efficient Harvest Lvl 1] showed up.

While the skill was useful, Ragnar was not satisfied. He equipped the second skill scroll and tore it open.

Immediately after the description appeared, Ragnar felt a surge of information flood his mind. He, who had never wielded a sword before, now felt as if he’d been swinging one for decades, instantly becoming a master.

"YES!" Ragnar jumped out of bed and exclaimed, "Finally a combat skill, and one related to swords at that! I’m lucky!"

He even equipped a sword from his inventory, and his hands wrapped around it as though he were intimately familiar with the weapon.

A smile spread across his face as he began swinging it playfully. The sound of the blade slicing through the small room filled him with excitement.

"So cool," he exclaimed.

KNOCK!

At that moment, a knock sounded at the door.

"Ragnar, are you inside?"

It was Merlina.

Ragnar immediately stored the sword back in his inventory and rushed to open the door.

Outside, Merlina stood with a small basket in her hands. Ragnar suspected it contained the onion cake she spoke about earlier.

"Please come in," he said with a welcoming smile.

Merlina smiled and stepped into the room. She placed the basket on his bed and brought out a plate holding a steaming, finely made onion cake.

A sweet aroma filled the room, causing Ragnar’s stomach to grumble loudly, much to his embarrassment.

Merlina heard it and chuckled teasingly. She took a wooden spoon and scooped a small piece of the onion cake.

She blew on it gently, her lips curved gracefully as Ragnar watched in amazement.

"Open your mouth," she said as she stepped closer and brought the spoon closer to his mouth.

Ragnar blinked, flustered.

He tried rejecting her advance to feed him but she shoved his hands away and asked him to open his mouth once again, this time with a frown.

Defeated, Ragnar opened his mouth, and she guided the onion cake to his lips.

Once the warm cake met his tongue, a soft sweetness spread across his senses. The dough was light and chewy, the onion sweet and mellow. A hint of salt and a crisp edge provided just the right bite. It tasted even better than Ragnar had expected.

Ragnar’s eyes brightened. "This is delicious."

Merlina watched as he chewed, awaiting his review on her cooking.

"Merlina, this is fantastic. To think you made something so delicious from just a few ingredients, you’re indeed a great cook," Ragnar praised.

"Hehe," Merlina smiled proudly. "Now eat up before it gets cold and loses its sweetness."

Ragnar nodded. He took the onion cake from her and devoured the entire thing in less than two minutes.

Even though he felt a bit embarrassed with Merlina watching, he couldn’t help enjoying every bite of the onion cake.

Seeing him devour her baking with such enthusiasm made the beautiful red-haired woman even more excited.

After he finished, she brought out a wooden cup of warm milk from the basket and handed it to him. "I got plenty of milk from Mrs. Clara, her goats are doing well this season."

Ragnar thanked her and took the milk.

’This is my first time tasting raw milk, and it’s really good,’ Ragnar thought.

"Merlina, thank you for this delicious meal," he said sincerely.

Merlina smiled and picked up the basket, preparing to leave.

"We’re like brother and sister after all. If you’re hungry next time, come over to our house," she said and walked away.

Ragnar sat and watched her leave, a smile on his face as he replayed her words in his mind.

’We’re like brother and sister...’

|| Host has been tossed in the brother zone. ||

Before he could even process it, Onyx teased.

"Damn you to hell, Onyx!"
