Chapter 96: Just a Messengaa

"Hyaa!"

*GALLOP!

*GALLOP!

"Easy there boy, easy." The rider atop the horse cooed, successfully bringing it to a stop before the entrance. He wore nothing special, no armour but rather a regular tunic and cloak.

"Good morning, good sirs. Is this the Elmore Estate?" The blonde rider greeted warmly.

"State your business." Colin kept his eyes on him, expecting anything at all— positive or otherwise.

"I’m just a humble messenger, I bring a letter from Darren Stern."

*THUD!

Ral landed on the ground. "Thank you for your service, we’ll be taking it from here." He informed as he walked towards him.

"You might have misunderstood me, I am to personally deliver it into the hands of Lord Vans Elmore."

"The Lord is currently—"

*BLANG!

*SCREE!

*BAM!

The shut gates forcefully flew open all of a sudden.

"You dare to leave your post, Ral?!" A hoarse voice bellowed, the large figure of Carl emerged through the gates.

’He’s here already?’ Colin was stunned.

"Carl my man, you seriously think I would dare with you watching me from afar?" Ral turned back towards him, a foxy smile propped up on his face.

"Of course, everyone does."

"Whaaaat? Colin do you?"

"Hm!" He shrugged.

"What about you?"

"I barely know you, I’m just a messenger."

"At least a piece of honesty around here right, Carl?" Receiving no reply, a hand larger than his face came at him.

For even though it was meant to be a push away from his face, Ral was sent a bit more further and on the ground.

"You said you were a messenger?" Carl questioned, interested in whatever the rider had to say.

"Yes, I bring a letter from Darren Stern."

"To my Lord?"

"Indeed, it’s to be delivered right into his hands."

"Good then, I’ll send you but first off the horse." Carl turned to take the lead, stopping as the rider spoke.

"Is there a reason?"

"Do you—"

"Haha, it’s rules of the mansion. We’ll have your mount fed and dusted at the stables, for a smooth journey back of course." Ral stepped in, going for a grab of the horse’s reins. "Ah, see he likes me."

"It seems so." The messenger commented, finally getting off the horseback.

"Make sure to get back here right after, Ral." Carl said, heading towards the mansion with the messenger following behind.

"Whaat? Don’t you know me?!" He shouted out. "Hahaa, everything is working out for my good brother. Haha!"

"Ral, aren’t you bothered?" Colin asked, back to leaning against the wall.

"I know Master and the Lord Regent had left, still it’s just a message. What could possibly go wrong with Kaleb getting it? It’s just a letter anyways— I’m off, laters brother." Ral hopped onto the horse and was soon going around the wall.

"What’s wrong with using this gate?!"

"I have a date, brother!!"

"Why does he get to have the luck? Haa!" Colin exhaled, finally shutting the gates once again and returning to his position. Staring up to the sky, he could only thing about one person.

’I knew you never truly loved him, that’s why you ran. I’ll find you, no matter where you go— stay alive and wait for me, Thelma.’

*SOB!

*SNIFFLE!

*SOB!

Rocking back and forth, her face hidden behind her knees was none other than Alicia.

"I’m sorry— I’m sorry— forgive me— forgive me— I’m sorry." She kept on mumbling those set of words, her eyes lost and simply staring blankly.

’What’s happening? Wish someone could explain." He tried to take in how she’d suddenly gone that far, and was currently in such a state.

"I feel drained." He managed to sit up, wincing as he felt aches all over. ’This sure is real.’

"How did I even—" The words left his mouth with no trace of where they went, the sight before him overly shocking.

"I’m— I’m— I’m no longer fat?" It would have definitely been a good thing l, if only his current state was any better.

’I’m no different from a twig, I can see my bones!’

He was skinny, his flesh barely clinging to him. "Heavens! am I dying?!"

*GROWL!

*GRUMBLE!

A certain hunger, probably hidden for long had set in with a full force, an intense pang being felt.

’Heavens is this why I’m like this?!’ Even raising his hands to rub his tummy, felt odd considering how bony it was. "Argh, my head hurts and this hunger— haa."

’I have to get off here first.’ Carefully, he crawled over the bed to the closest side when he froze all of a sudden.

*GROWL!

’That’s right...’ His eyes lit up. ’I can smell it too— food is here!’ Following the scent, he looked back an there it was beside the bed, a tray full of meat.

*SLURP!

He licked his lips aggressively, hoping to get a taste of it from the air. As quickly turning back, he was about dashing forward. When all of a sudden, the width of the bed dawned on him. "Why...is it so far?"

’I’d better walked instead.’ Already at the edge of the bed, he made to get down. Yet, his feet seemed to never touch the ground or so he thought. ’What’s going on here, I can see the ground right he—’

*GULP!

’My legs...are on the ground.’ He stared at them in disbelief. "I— I can’t feel my legs."

"Diz, you are to make all the preparations for the supplies and equipments we’d be requiring." Kaleb said, opening up a large map on which covered the entire surface of the map.

"Castle Yankai, that’s my goal." He placed his hand on a certain part of the map, having the Empire Of Mumain written boldly.

Diz staring at the map felt uneasy, a bead of sweat snaking down his face as he voiced. "My Lord, isn’t that deep within the kingdom. Kruten is the bordering fortress and the best take, if we aim to go offensive first."

"You are right, it probably is and I have thought about that."

"Haha, of course you have, my lord."

"But so have the Mumain’s."

"Ah um, actually..."

"Hitting one of the strongholds in their heart, would give us the advantage we require— fear."

"Fear? But, Mumain is an Empire."

"And it’s nothing with discouraged armies, we don’t need Yankai. Defending it would be impossible, but a successful siege would surely buy us the needed time."

"Are there any in the east who would dare support us against Mumain? Maybe the—"

"They wouldn’t help and might soon declare war top, which I hope not. No matter what, we’ll have to get someone or anyone— if not, Crane falls and so do we."

*GULP!

’You just had to put it in that way.’

*KNOCK!

*KNOCK!

"Who’s it?" Diz said aloud.

"Diz, there’s a messenger here to see, My Lord."

"Come in Carl." Kaleb ordered and soon the door slid open with two figures stepping in.

"Greetings My Lord, I bring a message from Darren Stern to Lord Vans Elmore. I’m to deliver it into his hands directly." The blonde messenger stated, the room falling silent as he awaited a reply yet received one.

"Are you Lord Va—"

"Seriously, kill him and get me the bloody letter already, Carl." Kaleb casually said.

"Yes My Lord."

"Wait, what no— I’m just a messengaa..." Before he knew it, a hand connected with his face, turning it over 180 and then—

*CRACK!

He’d successfully completed a 360, bloodless and lifelessly.

*THUD!

Soon enough, the letter was handed over to Kaleb a as he read through, his face remained expressionless.

’Sometimes, somethings are better left to remain a mystery, Darren.’
